2023 Tooth & Nail Cabernet Sauvignon (Squad Series), Paso Robles
Tasting Notes
The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon bursts from the glass with aromas of plum, black cherry, sandalwood and tobacco leaf. A luscious mouthfeel delivers velvety flavors of black fruits, boysenberry, crème de cassis, mocha and vanilla with hints of gravelly stone. Plump tannins unfold into a soft, enveloping finish.
Winemaking
The grapes were harvested over a period from September through October 2023. After destemming the clusters, Director of Winemaking Jeremy Leffert and his team fermented the fruit in a combination of 10-ton stainless steel tanks, four-ton concrete fermenters and large oak tanks. After seven to 10 days of warm extraction, the new wine was pressed off the skins and into stainless steel tanks to finish fermentation, a maneuver designed to maintain a pure tannin profile while avoiding any uptake of phenolic astringency. After fermentation, the individual lots were aged in French oak barrels (25% new oak) for 10 months prior to final blending with small complements of Petit Verdot and Malbec to flesh out the mouthfeel. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered. The resulting wine has the verve, tenacity and vibrancy that you have come to love and expect from Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon.

@mehvid1 They ship them in refrigerated trucks to the local/regional UPS / FedEx hub, where they are then loaded onto non-refrigerated trucks.
I ordered a lot of wine throughout the years, many having been shipped this method. Only once were the bottles too warm for my preference; that was a crazy heatwave.
Basically your wine will arrive just fine. Don’t worry about the refrigerated truck logistics.
@KNmeh7 Thx for the encouragement and info. My fear was they would be properly cared for until they ended up in the meh warehouse. But I (uncharacteristically) hadn’t read the write-up thoroughly enough to see that there was another company doing the distribution… “allegedly.” J/k. I trust meh. Until they give me enough reason not to. Cheers!
We visited this place while we were on a hop on/off tour in Paso pre-pandemic. We didn’t plan on going because it was a paid tasting (they wave if you bought certain bottles). The place is a castle. There’s weird Tom Burton styled art all over. We liked it, and the staff was great.
The wine was good, but slightly on the overpriced side. Still- it was very Paso Robles style with concentrated flavor profiles. I left with a bottle of “The Possessor” and
The Stand" to wave the $40 or whatever it was tasting fee.
I’m in for a case at this price and very tempted by the Casemates offering. Hell at $10.85 a bottle shipped- I’ll likely circle back here for another.
I took a chance on this, love my red wine, not many detailed reviews on 2023 version of this wine, but I did find that 2023 was a great year for Paso Robles, a lot of rain vs drought for previous 3 years, $10 a bottle, sort of a no-brainer

Aren’t y’all so fancy with your bottles. I think I forgot my monocle.
@goldnectar SideDeal is pretty high on their horse as well, no? Thinking we’re gonna not drink out of red cups….
Shipped in refrigerated trucks… how far? To my house? Doubt it.

You want me to spend how much on mystery wine? The last time I got wine on meh I ended up dumping most of it and I’m not the least bit picky.
@stazja01
A mystery wine is when you don’t know what it is. Know exactly what this is. Lots of info out there about this one. 91 rating on WE.

Have had good luck with Paso Robles wines, in for a case.
Finally starting to carry wines that will ship down to Alabama and my wife quits drinking… sigh …
My wife frequently talks about quitting drinking…
A perfect allegory for the US right now; Hegseth serving Barron alcohol.
i already ferment my own teeth and toenails, no need for this wine.
@omally
Thanks for the warning!
Why is Cobra Commander on the bottle.
@Rustahl Oh good, I thought i was the only one seeing that.

Just go to a local wine shop.
Just drink a little wine!!!
Thanks, Meh, for one last good wine buy before I say goodbye to my membership.
