Mer-Maid Drain Magic is a universal 2-in-1 drain solution that quickly replaces old, broken, or missing sink stoppers for an easy, hassle-free upgrade
With a simple press of a button, Drain Magic lets you fill or drain your sink instantly while its silicone gasket ensures a watertight, mess-free installation
A powerful anti-clogging basket catches hair, food, and debris before they reach the drain, keeping your sink flowing smoothly and clean
Made from rust-resistant brass with a polished nickel finish, Drain Magic combines long-lasting durability with modern elegance
Designed to fit most sink drains from 1.06” to 1.96” in diameter, Drain Magic includes pre-assembled and extra gaskets for a perfect, customizable fit
I guess if I knew the dimensions of my sink this would be useful. But I don’t need this for my sink as much as I need it for the tub or is it really just a matter of it fitting into the hole regardless?
@AaronLeeJohnson Tub drains often have a non-removable bit to support the stopper, and those will block this from being installed. On a lavatory sink, you’ll probably need to remove the existing drain pop-up and reinstall the operation lever to seal the fitting on the back of the downpipe. That’s not rocket science; there’s a good chance you’ve had to learn how already.
We have cats. A similar contraption for the tub drain would clog immediately upon starting to take a shower. We use something much simpler now. (And extracting a regular pop-up to clean it and unclog the lav drain is easy, and doesn’t have to be done very often.)
@katbyter@unksol The plastic thing we’re using is that HD item. I don’t know where my partner sourced it; he doesn’t do Home Depot. (I do. Much Ryobi.)
@katbyter@werehatrack those plastic things have been working for decades. Before I was born at least. They don’t have the built in stopper obviously/ you just have a manual stopper you put over it.
@sflesch@werehatrack I just assumed it was a tub. Cats were in it cause water. To drink. But if I could round up all the cats and wash out all the hair every spring. Yes. Yes please
Amazon seems to have millions of variations of these for under $7 each with quality brand names like QYNDHRT. (But most without the same level of ostentatious self-branding like this Mer-Maid one.)
@heartfeltsf Maybe. In general I hate plumbing and drains seem to be particularly troublesome. I think you need to mess with the drain pipes and once touched, they will haunt you to the end of your days.
Edit: Nope. I was wrong. Apparently they just press into the existing drain. Even I could (probably) do that.
Once again, the term “Universal” should be “fits the majority” of bathroom sinks in this case. Looks like the #1 complaint about these is “This doesn’t fit in my sink properly.”
I found an old-fashioned rubber drain stopper, with metal loop on top (if you want to add a chain) for 39¢. Bought a gross-- sell ya one for only $9.99…

it’s not a stopper, it’s a drain in your drain, dawg
You think it would work good enough to stop active diarrhea, so I can go into the roach motel pool ?
@seespotbark All right, well I regret everything that led to me reading this post.
@seespotbark Going into the roach motel pool gave you the diarrhea to begin with so why bother??
@AaronLeeJohnson I logged in for the first time in months just to be able to star-agree with this comment
@MrGoodGuy lol
@televiper Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends
@Jonas4321
ISWYDT! Love that song…
@chienfou OMG me too. A link to a live performance of that song popped into my Quora feed yesterday, so my brain was primed to go there.
@chienfou @Jonas4321
Me too!

@AaronLeeJohnson
That’s what SHE said!!

@werehatrack what is this simpler thing? Asking for a friend.
@katbyter @werehatrack also curious. There are of course silicone/plastic ones you can just set over a tub/shower drain.

I imagine those would be fast to shake the hair off
@werehatrack Our cats won’t go anywhere near a tub/shower.
Their raison d’être is to distribute their fur evenly around the rugs and furniture.
@katbyter @unksol The plastic thing we’re using is that HD item. I don’t know where my partner sourced it; he doesn’t do Home Depot. (I do. Much Ryobi.)
@macromeh @werehatrack lol there is hair everywhere stuck to everything. Need to wipe the whole house down

@werehatrack have you tried not showering with your cats?

Even considering the scratches
Aw yeah! This is the shit I come to Meh for.
First pic looked like a different type of “plug.”

@iggy71 Great minds think alike.

I have an annoying IKEA sink thingie - could I change it to this seemingly less annoying sink thingie I have moderately stalked on Instagram?
@heartfeltsf Maybe. In general I hate plumbing and drains seem to be particularly troublesome. I think you need to mess with the drain pipes and once touched, they will haunt you to the end of your days.

Turn a regular sink into an ugly, branded sink. (It’s a nifty contraption, but no to the etching.)
The AI movie parody is, of course, “Bourne in the USA,” starring Tom Cruise and Matt Damon as the wheelchair.
We have the Sink Shroom but if I didn’t have it I’d buy this one! Oh well…

This is the Sink Shroom…

Perfect for filling the smoking hole that is where the old plunger style stopper used to be that broke ages ago.

These are great! We didn’t get them here, but they’re so worth it.
Do these fit a kitchen sink drain? Ours is a large drain leading to a disposal (but we don’t like to use disposal because we’re on septic).
