I feel like this would be a much easier buy if it was priced at fiddy and zero cents a packet. (but in all fairness, i probably am not their target audience to begin with)
@goldnectar@SolarGuy619 Yep when you consider the poo we have in Washington DC at this time. A national Sales Tax (tariffs) & the greed to be able to use more UnHealthy stuff in what we eat!
Here’s the problem. My wife works in this industry and reminds me of this when I see cheap chocolate. If the expiration is in April, that means these have been sitting for up to 18 to 24 months. Organic could have a shorter shelf life, but the bottom line is, this is old chocolate.
@axemurderer The standard issue stones, BUT during the pandemic I was eating alot of peanut butter crackers and cup o’ noodles. If I had hydrated correctly during that time, then it would have been a non-issue. I can totally eat peanut-butter, but I am NOT going to pay for it, especially a 24 pack.
@cfg83@somf69
How on earth did they figure out which vector gave you kidney stones? I didn’t know they could tell.
I suppose if all someone ate was … say, spinach … they could say that caused oxalate-based stones, but it would have to be rather continual or high consumption.
Is there a test to tell what caused kidney stones?
@Christo196@somf69 I’m a programmer, so I just use the word vector. It’s not the peanut butter per se, it’s the low-hydration diet I settled on during the pandemic. I can probably have all the PB I want, but PB crackers + cup o’ noodles were the staples I was living on.
The two times I got kidney stones, there were habits I settled into that included low hydration. That’s the main culprit. I literally wrote my el-crappo looking water logger program during my recovery from my second kidney stone procedure …
It looks like my procedure was more than 1633 days ago.
@cfg83@sflesch@therealjrn I skip the 20 because I’m not sorting the now-distant past and the future won’t become a problem during my lifetime. I did not learn anything from Y2K.
@Christo196@sflesch@somf69@therealjrn Yes, I think(?) it is also the European way to write dates. As a programmer, it makes everything sort out nicely. I hace skipped 20 in some of my folder hierarchies on my computers, but today it’s mostly the full YYYYMMDD and even YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS if needed.
@JT954 Given the history of meltable things sold by Meh, I would imagine there is little chance they aren’t melted. Maybe they can include a knife to help cut chunks off…
Theo’s flagship factory store was my FAVORITE place to take friends visiting Seattle- the tour was interesting, the samples were abundant, and it was a source of pride to have such an ethical, thoughtful company selling my favorite food right here in my city. When it was sold to the American Licorice Company a few years ago, it was a blow- production moved out of state, everyone was laid off. It’s still sometimes touted as a local company. I can’t speak to whether the quality of the chocolate has changed since the company that produces Red Vines took over, since I’ve moved on to other local chocolate brands for my hoity toity chocolate consumption, but I did love the dark chocolate PB cups for a long time especially because the PB they used was local CB’s Nuts peanut butter.
All of this to say: this is probably still an excellent peanut butter cup, but the nostalgia of what they once were will keep me from buying 24 of them to find out.
I always look at the weird food items, on the off chance that someone has come up with a low carb tasty treat. As much as I love peanut butter cups, can’t do the sugar anymore. And I was a Reese addict as a child.
Allergic to peanut butter, might consider for the kids, but it seems these have a high likelihood to be approaching rancid by their best-by date. They really should send a few of these things out to VMPs or a ‘rat test’ like they do with wine.meh.com.
“notes of chocolate, peanut butter on the cusp of ruining your day”
This is good timing for me, because I saw an article last week about how Reese’s grandson is suing Hershey because they’ve been making their peanut butter cup recipe worse, and I’ve been craving some quality peanut butter cups since then.

You’re bragging about a dollar per? When did Meh become lower middle class?
@goldnectar have you taken a LOOK at this sh*t show economy?
@goldnectar Yeah, but don’t forget it’s 40% more than that with shipping! So now you’re more like upper middle class.
@goldnectar tariffs, huh.
@goldnectar @SolarGuy619 Yep when you consider the poo we have in Washington DC at this time. A national Sales Tax (tariffs) & the greed to be able to use more UnHealthy stuff in what we eat!

@mediocrebot @medz Those little peanut critters are creepy-good.

@somf69 Peanut butter was one of my kidney stone vectors, so peanut butter is verboten.
@somf69 “My wife works in this industry”
@somf69 “sitting for up to 18 to 24 months.”
THE HORROR
@cfg83
??? how? what kind of stones do you develop?
pb isn’t exactly high in oxalates (unlike chocolate)
@axemurderer The standard issue stones, BUT during the pandemic I was eating alot of peanut butter crackers and cup o’ noodles. If I had hydrated correctly during that time, then it would have been a non-issue. I can totally eat peanut-butter, but I am NOT going to pay for it, especially a 24 pack.
@cfg83 seriously? between pb, crackers, and cup o’noodles, you concluded that pb was the problem? come on, man.
@axemurderer You must be one of those secret pb boosters that big-pb is paying on the sly. How many cups are they paying you per post,
?
I’m literally not gonna bite.
@somf69 well said. There is always a reason something is so “cheap.”
@cfg83 nah, just someone else who had a kidney stone and actually knows something about the topic/causes.
@cfg83 @somf69

@Christo196 @somf69
I admire your proper date format @cfg83 to naturally sort the entries by date. I do the same thing on my spreadsheets
@somf69 good-old chocolate.
@axemurderer @cfg83 Drink plenty of water (3.5 liters) every day.
@cfg83 @Christo196 @somf69 @therealjrn that’s the only way to write dates.
@cfg83 @somf69 So sad!
@cfg83 @sflesch @therealjrn I skip the 20 because I’m not sorting the now-distant past and the future won’t become a problem during my lifetime. I did not learn anything from Y2K.

Hard pass.
I would buy these if I knew they would not be melted from the Florida heat on arrival.
@JT954 Given the history of meltable things sold by Meh, I would imagine there is little chance they aren’t melted. Maybe they can include a knife to help cut chunks off…
@JT954 @shahnm
Would have been fine if they had arrived in the early part of this week… It’s been “chilly”
Best by they won’t last that long on this house….

@mediocrebot Needs more chocolate.
@cfg83 @mediocrebot I bet that fireplace doesn’t work real well.
@cfg83 @mediocrebot interesting. it’s usually around 4:20 when i reach for the chocolate, too…

@jcpseattle wow, I wish I’d read that BEFORE I ordered.
I remember Theo chocolates as being really really good; well, I’ll find out in coming days…
Time for the obligatory
@robson that didn’t make any sense back-in-the-day either.
Peanuts are organic??? Who knew?
Like these?

At one time, Theo was my favorite brand.
Peanut butter and chocolate together is something I dislike.
Instant pass.
