So I’d get a 3-pack of triple insulation? (My house isn’t insulated that well.) Can it be healthy to drink through a total of 9 layers of insulation? Some of those colors do seem to need some pollen insulation though.
Only on Meh could you convince yourself, Just one more order of (Bluetooth speakers, power packs, or tumblers with or without speakers/battery packs built in)
@heartny If today’s offer came in that shade of purple, I’d probably buy them just on that basis. But lilac? Meh. Ditto for the rest of the pastels. Give me some real beachball shades. Even the “forest green” is desaturated. I’m done with all that muted crap,
Decent price, but I have to wonder how they are achieving “triple” insulation on these. I smell marketroid misunderstanding of the product by the brand owner.
@troy In other words, vacuum insulated. Copper is not an insulator, it’s an excellent heat conductor.
Ergo, the double wall stainless vessel is the structure that provides the evacuated space that is the only real insulation involved. Yup, the brand owner’s marketroids (who may also be the brand owners) don’t really understand the tech behind their private-label merch.
It is sad that people branding what is very likely a perfectly suitable item feel the need to engage in stupid puffery that most likely caused quite a few potential customers (like me) to think there must be something wrong with it (or them).
@robson Every brand of vacuum-insulated stainless bottle and mug and tumbler that I’ve seen says “hand wash only.” All of the ones I own have been through the dishwasher multiple times with nothing worse than some discoloration of the powdercoat or resin dip. I will note, however, that I have to scrub the interior with some CLR and a Scotchbrite pad periodically to remove the layer of mineral deposit that inevitably seems to form. (Caveat: Early on, I bought a “Bubba” mug that had plastic cladding around the top and bottom of the stainless vacuum vessel. The plastic cladding was not watertight, and collected water inside when run through the dishwasher. It took more work to get it back out than I wanted to repeat, so I gave that mug away and never bought another.)
My favorite 40 oz tumblers were bought from Academy, and have a grippy coating. The best ones are a very nice shade of purple. I added handles to them which have stayed firmly in place. I put the tumblers in the freezer, I placed the ring portion of the handles in boiling water, and then shrink-fitted the handles onto the tumblers.
@werehatrack I wish that were true that ones that say hand wash only could safely be put through the dishwasher.
I’ve bought several different offerings here before these, and they’ve been ruined in the dishwasher when it says “hand wash only”. The finish discolors, or the coating peels off after several rounds in said dishwasher.
The only ones I’ve had no issues with are from Yeti and Stanley, where they’ve actually said “dishwasher safe” on the mug or tumbler, or on the manufacturer literature…
@robson Maybe that’s why they ended up here. Come to think of it, most of mine are from WallyWorld or Academy. They still said “hand wash only”, and I ignored it, and very few had any discoloration or peeling. As you say, YMMV. It may depend on local water condition, the detergent used, and the temperature reached in the dishwasher. We keep “heat dry” and “extra heat during wash” turned off, to protect the various plastic things.

@mudir_nahya So far, they haven’t combined a vacuum-insulated bottle with a knife and an LED lantern.
Maybe I should not have mentioned this idea.
Nope, safe, Hell+Bowell doesn’t have anything like that.

@mediocrebot I’d probably buy that

@werehatrack double wall stainless with a copper layer

Hand wash only (per Amazon), so definite meh.

No mention of vacuum insulation or they would have said it. Thus “ triple “
@craigcush double wall vacuum with copper layer
@craigcush @troy
Copper is a conductor, the opposite of an insulator.
