I’m already reminded of the Penn and Teller episode where they said that milk can’t make you sleepy from a single glass. I think you have to be a certain kind of person to find sleep aid stuff effective. The only thing that’s ever worked on me is sleeping pills and Benadryl and those put you to sleep in a bad way.
@AaronLeeJohnson FWIW Benadryl and antihistamines don’t “put you to sleep” in the same sense as anesthesia. Histamines act as a neurotransmitter that keep you awake when you’re tired. If you’re not already sleepy, an anti-histamine like Benadryl won’t make you fall asleep. If it knocks you out hard, it means you were already exhausted and probably needed a nap.
That said, it’s not recommended as a regular sleep aid because long term your body will adjust to the anti-histamine and produce more histamines. For an acute irritation, or a one time “My mind is racing and I’m exhausted” situation, it’s probably fine but don’t take medical advice from Internet strangers.
@AaronLeeJohnson@themeatbridge I had a housemate that gradually cut out any sort of “drug” including alcohol. But given a small case of “sniffles” he would load up on that stuff and pass-out for a day or two in his bed. I heard you can’t get the best stuff OTC anymore.
@themeatbridge That sounds very scientific and logical but any time of the day regardless of how I was feeling before Benadryl could do that. I could always be tired sure, but I’m just telling ya what it did when I used it. No argument on dependencies though.
The wife recently bought a couple jars at retail price. The Carmel chocolate tastes really good. Haven’t tried the vanilla latte yet. Haven’t drank consistently enough to see the benefits though.
Ordered some mint chocolate and I’m gonna go drink a glass of Carmel now.
I’d be hard pressed to find a way to justify forking out ten bucks each for bags of what’s just a trifle herpetoleate for my tastes. And given my personal experience with things labelled “superfood”, this is a hard no-thanks.
Maybe they’ll have fidget spinners tomorrow. Maybe even AI-enhanced fidget spinners.
@lisameh California basically had a ‘brilliant’ idea that said any company who had a product that contained any amount of a whole list of things without a warning would be fined out the wazoo.
So now, pretty much every California company just sticks that warning label on everything, just to cover their butts.
@gwrankin@lisameh Eventually, somebody will put Prop65 warning billboards and signs at every point of entry into the state, informing visitors that California contains substances that may be hazardous to your health, ideas that may be hazardous to your personal world view, driving surfaces that may be hazardous to your vehicle, and is just generally pretty much as dangerous as everywhere else and nobody is going to tell you what or where those hazards are.
The writeup seemed to center on L-tryptophan, but – as best I could tell – that amino acid wasn’t in either of the two “14 Research Backed Superfoods” photos. And (even though I was squinting pretty hard) I couldn’t find it in the ingredient list of the Rose bag I looked at, so I suppose if one wants to mimic the Thanksgiving meal with that Rose variant, it may leave one wanting. Either way, I don’t think this vespertine soup is for me.
According to the Amazon link, this uses monk fruit as the sweetener. Too bad, if it was unsweetened, I’d be very interested, but I can’t stand fake sugars. They’re too cloying for me.
Yay! I’ve gone back-and-forth with this and early bird nightcap magnesium drink, and quit because they were both too expensive. I’m trying to make do with Sleepytime tea. So I’m very excited to get these back in my house.
@user86933129 I have used magnesium for years to help me sleep and I believe it works – I sampled these moonbrew’s as well and felt I got pretty dang tired within an hour of drinking, so either I’m very susceptible to placebo or it actually works for me
As a follow-up to last night’s post I present you with this.
I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep. I’m up and down quite a bit and then only sleep a few hours before I’m tossing and turning again. I can’t say when the last time I had any dreams.
Last night after my post here, I did drink a cup of the caramel chocolate that we have. I did drift off to sleep about an hour later, did not wake up until this morning, and I did have a few dreams. Keep in mind that I am very skeptical by nature, not trusting all of the ‘snake oil’ supplements. However I am faced with the reality of last night, so I will certainly will try another cup tonight and see if the magnesium helps me get to sleep. In the for what it’s worth category, I ordered a three pack of mint chocolate and then came back this morning and ordered a variety pack. I’m counting on the fact that this is meh and by the time I run out of these they will be for sale two or three more times, hopefully at a less expensive price. Lol

Yuck!

@jaybird caramel… autocorrect is weird
@jaybird mine would’ve said camel.
@jaybird @phendrick
Mmmmm. Tasty Camel…
@El_Oel @jaybird @phendrick You can feel the benefits down to your toes.

Fixed it for you.

@werehatrack
I want those.
Ironically will probably lie awake tonight considering those.
@werehatrack I don’t know what herpetoleate means, but I like the word!
@andymand Oil of the snake…
@MrNews
Awesome. Thank you for explaining it to me!
POPSOCKETS! ROAD ROCKETS! SONNY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
“May” contain LEAD! WTF? Review on Amazon shows pic of bottom of the bag that has this warning.
@lisameh Just a Prop65 statement – thousands of food products carry the same. You can read more from Moonbrew here
@lisameh California basically had a ‘brilliant’ idea that said any company who had a product that contained any amount of a whole list of things without a warning would be fined out the wazoo.
So now, pretty much every California company just sticks that warning label on everything, just to cover their butts.

But that would be too simple.
No thanks. My vodka sodas have been working just fine. Well, maybe not the stay asleep part.
@gwrankin I second that.
The writeup seemed to center on L-tryptophan, but – as best I could tell – that amino acid wasn’t in either of the two “14 Research Backed Superfoods” photos. @andymand Sorry about that – our on-site image compression makes things hard to read sometimes. Here are the full-res:
Rose | Mint Chocolate | Cinnamon Chai
@andymand Ooo, cool word that I didn’t know!
@Kyeh I figured when Google failed me with herpetoleate, I should make it give me something useful!
@andymand @Kyeh that was a big google fail
@andymand @searcher Well, it’s a made-up word.

Probably tastes like it was already digested once…

@Jamileigh17 This!
Probably won’t make up for the extra time I have to get up to pee in the middle of the night.
Yay! I’ve gone back-and-forth with this and early bird nightcap magnesium drink, and quit because they were both too expensive. I’m trying to make do with Sleepytime tea. So I’m very excited to get these back in my house.
Amazing how people buy into quackery.

Yes, but I want to buy 1 bag, not 3!
@pmarin OK got me with the variety pack!
What sort of evil poetry is this?

/giphy goofy-traceable-verse
@pmarin that’s not even Goofy! It’s his son Max. Does max-traceable-verse work better for you? No? Me either.
