Already have 6 plus a red one I got in an IRK. I don’t need any more and unfortunately the rest of my family refuses to adopt them for some reason. The only inconvenience is when I want to use wired headphones. I so wish the company made cheap headphones with the magnetic connector.
@NapkinEater They refuse to adopt them because of pure stubbornness, my gf is the same way. She hates them and I’m convinced even she doesn’t know why (she says she doesn’t like the part that “sticks out”, which is funny given the sheer mass of the phone case she uses nearly makes it sit flush). I’ve at least used them long enough to learn the downsides, but I’ve found they’re still really great for specific applications.
@dvermilion@NapkinEater What are the downsides? I bought them on the mehrathon so they havent come in yet. Plan was to use with a macbook pro 13 that has usb-c and iphone so that cable ends don’t keep getting broken at home.
I bought them here a bit ago and they work well with my PC and devices. In the car I can only use them for charging (because of the car, not the cables).
I must be doing something wrong. I bought these last time and want to throw them out, all they do is cause me frustration… very difficult to remove from the device since they become disconnected.
@mcemanuel The idea is to leave the tip IN the device, full-time. Don’t have to remove it. Very convenient and really isn’t a big deal w./ protruding, especially with a case. I don’t really notice it in the device at all when carrying or in use.
@Everbody Good advice, esop give]]given the tips will oxidize over time; the more moisture, the faster the factory coating degrades & the copper tarnishes.
These cables are awesome. Love ‘em, love ‘em! Bought them last time they sold them and now I’m buying more just in case I need a backup. I use one on my nightstand, one in my car, and keep one in my travel bag (that’s why 3 really ARE good!)
They superior to the previous brand of magnetic cables I have because they have the hinge and they rotate, which is genius! Best cable system ever in my opinion.
Hope that’s helpful.
I like the concept, but I don’t have any real use case. I don’t have much that uses data that’s not permanently connected. And the stuff that just needs power, I have a bunch of the lesser, more flashy version of these, with just power.
If I had just a couple places to use them and wanted to quick-swap for charging AND data, these seem pretty solid though.
@EvilSmoo One underrated use case here is: you’ll never have a USB-C port/connector go bad from normal use, or from being dropped/tripped over. I use them for my console controllers/over-ear headphones and for the random remaining microUSB devices I have hanging around. They’re also great for those rare occasions when you can’t find a lightning (Apple) cable you literally never need except for this one time where it was really important (actually happened to me). Imo even keeping a couple in a drawer/glovebox is a worthwhile investment as a backup. Just my 0.02. ʅ(́◡◝)ʃ
So no problem like the Apple cables covering disintegrating from use from skin contact?
Also 2X the strength means these are second generation? Amazon link is to first.
Bought twice before 1, then 2. Now they’re $2 cheaper. In for 3 more. Best cables ever. Never worry about ripping the connector out of your phone and damaging the port.
Glad I bought them during the Meh-rathon at 3 for $25.
These are great for saving the usb-c port of your gizmos if you find yourself putting torque on your devices at your favorite charging locations by, say, dropping a device, having the charge cord get snagged/pulled, or just being forgetful and trying to walk away with the device plugged in.
So what I’m saying is it’s great for houses with kids, klutzes, gray hairs and pets.
There’s nothing worse than a fully functional device that just can’t charge any more.
@Artimid If this is like the other sets I bought, then you get three sets of tips to go with the three cables. They actually come in three separate sealed retail packs
@TallPerson I have two different iPhone cases for two different iPhones (Pela, iPhone 12 Pro Max and Casely, iPhone 15 Pro Max). The Pela, I can insert the tip but it definitely strains the case. My Casely, no go. I wanted to like these but they need to be able to work worth cases.
@jonmeh@lilgreenfish@TallPerson And risk damaging a $20 case rather than the charge port in a $800+ phone? How is Apple supposed to stay in business with that kind of logic?
@TallPerson On many cases, the recess around the C port is shaped to fit only the shoulder of a typical flat plug. The round magnetic one won’t go in. To use these cables with that kind of case, you would need to do some careful surgery on the case to provide clearance for the larger shoulder of the magnetic tip.
I’ve had good luck with my prior order and just re-ordered. I gave my daughter a pack when she couldnt find her charger and she promptly broke one of the ends haha. Not suitable for all audiences but I’ve had great luck with them.
Got them today, so far so good. Already removed a few, going to try it in my car later to make sure I can do data as well.
But I’m really surprised they only make one power bank that uses this adapter, and sadly the reviews for that aren’t good. They have several others though but all the rest have USB plugs.
These work well with my Samsung with its USB a and c, but did not work with my wife’s iPhone due the thickness of the protective phone cover. The lightning plug is just too short. Otherwise works well.

I want these but only if they were just a bit cheaper.
@yakkoTDI Shoulda pulled the trigger in the mehrethon
@highonpez They were still just a bit more than I wanted to pay during the Mehrathon.
@highonpez @yakkoTDI I think they were only 2 bucks cheaper then; they were the only thing I bought lol.
Is Statik in a phone charger a good thing?
(Or does that explain why they are on Meh?)
Sell more IRKs, stick em all in there; you’ll finally be rid of these and we’ll still be disappointed
Saw these last time around; one of the best buys I’ve made. Not not using it with an Apple…

@dvermilion @NapkinEater @outdoorslife They work great. I, personally, haven’t noticed any downsides.
Gettin’ nothing but static:
@robson Thnx for that throwback from a band of my youth.
@mehvid1 They’re such a fun band!
I bought them here a bit ago and they work well with my PC and devices. In the car I can only use them for charging (because of the car, not the cables).
I got one of these as a Christmas present, and I’ve really really appreciated it to charge my headphones.

Spray some WD40 or smear dielectric grease on them. They charge better straight out, not 90⁰!
@Everbody Good advice, esop give]]given the tips will oxidize over time; the more moisture, the faster the factory coating degrades & the copper tarnishes.
Shut up I have sweaty hands. ʅ(‘~`;)ʃ
I don’t need the whole thing, just the tip.
@ShotgunX You’re good. These cables are kink-free.

POPSOCKETS! SPROCKETS! DAVY CROCKETT! AWESOME!

@craigcush Looks like first-gen, even by the product code.

The glowing tip is a game changer in the dark. Use a sharpie if you want to dim it even more. Got 3 more.
Glad I bought them during the Meh-rathon at 3 for $25.

I’d be tempted to grab some, but I’d really rather it have 3 USB-C vs one of each. I can’t do anything with three pointless Apple chargers.
@Artimid If you like them, they do sell additional tips, including a 3 pack of USB C https://a.co/d/1ib2aAv
@bigpolar Much appreciated. I went ahead and bought this, I’ll buy some more USB-C heads then. Thank you.
@Artimid If this is like the other sets I bought, then you get three sets of tips to go with the three cables. They actually come in three separate sealed retail packs
@Artimid yeah. That’s this. Each pack comes with a set. It’s like 2 bucks cheaper to buy the replacement. Might as well load up here now.
It’s no wonder it doesn’t work to charge the iPhone 15 with a USB-A connector, considering the iPhone only has a port for a USB-C connector! 〜(^∇^〜)
I bought these before and the magnets attracted dirt or metal in dirt and then they stopped working. Went back to the usual charging.
@Fuzzalini That happens sometimes, but you just need to wipe them off and they start working again.
@Fuzzalini Makes sense, but in many months of using, it hasn’t happened to me.
Bought these before and the biggest issue is that if your phone is in a case (apple phone here), it becomes problematic to charge.
@TallPerson Hasn’t been a problem for me at all with iPhone 12 Pro with a typical case. Not sure why yours had issues.
@lilgreenfish @TallPerson Perhaps try using a drill bit to enlarge the hole in the case a little? Just a thought.
@jonmeh @lilgreenfish @TallPerson And risk damaging a $20 case rather than the charge port in a $800+ phone? How is Apple supposed to stay in business with that kind of logic?
KuoH
@jonmeh @lilgreenfish @TallPerson
Use a rotary tool if you have one, it’s easier.
@jonmeh @ShotgunX @TallPerson Yeah, no. I’ll just get charging cables that I can use with my case.
I’ve had good luck with my prior order and just re-ordered. I gave my daughter a pack when she couldnt find her charger and she promptly broke one of the ends haha. Not suitable for all audiences but I’ve had great luck with them.
Will SideDeal come through for me and let me buy one for a third of the price?
First!
@wootthereitis Congratulations, you are the first person to say “First!” in this thread.
Bad timing. I totally would have bought these if I hadn’t already purchased some right angle high speed cables.
Anyone tried these with handhelds like the steam deck?
Got them today, so far so good. Already removed a few, going to try it in my car later to make sure I can do data as well.
But I’m really surprised they only make one power bank that uses this adapter, and sadly the reviews for that aren’t good. They have several others though but all the rest have USB plugs.
