@alacrity@Fodder650 Espresso actually isn’t a great way to get caffeine; there’s only about 65mg in a shot. But if you add a Matador Energy Shot to a Starbucks venti, you’ll have around 475mg!
With a best by date from 11/30/2025 to 12/31/2025, I’m out. My place is crowded enough that I’m not gonna make room for a box of these sitting around until the end of November when they’ll finally be good to go.
I wonder how it compares to 5 hour energy drink. 5 hours has worked for me, but that taste is quite awful, and I checked, and it was surculose that causes that taste? Hate surculose.
@AaronLeeJohnson Sucralose and flavors are the only things making these taste good at all. Caffeine is super bitter, vitamins don’t taste great either… and when you only have 2oz of fluid to mask the flavor, you’re never going to achieve a flavor that you can with 16oz energy drink.
I have tried all three of these though, and do think they are better in both performance and flavor than 5-hour.
I’ve been drinking sodas with 12mg of caffeine in them (by comparison, Dr. Pepper has 48mg of caffeine per can), and they’re surprisingly effective for so little caffeine. If anything, I’m more productive when I’m not feeling jittery and hyper. The 185mg of caffeine in this is about 15x that amount
The fact that they assert that there’s a difference between caffeine from coffee beans and “synthetic” caffeine tells me that there’s more marketing horseshit than understanding of biochemistry going on here. And the fact that they give the caffeine dose per shot as 185mg makes my scalp crawl just thinking about it.
Oh, and my experience with things flavored with acai does not make that flavor’s presence into a positive selling point for me. YMMV, I may have just had only vile things with that flavor so far. (ISTR that both of them were contaminated with stevia, which doubtless made them worse.)
Meh, why not…I actually find the Liquid Focus that I bought here useful sometimes. This is from someone who feels zero, zilch, nada, rien from coffee and most energy drinks. We’ll see about these.

Anybody else order these, received them, and notice a strong mildewy smell from the boxes and bottles?
I discarded the boxes and rinsed all the bottles. I can still barely smell it under the individual bottle wrapping. Curious if others have it, if it’s a source problem or something from my shipment’s neighbor packages in the Fedex transit.
Taste of the shot itself is… not mildewy. So, that’s acceptable.
@lokisataere Have you checked if any of the bottles got cracked? Last time I ordered any kind of caffeine shots, a single bottle had been damaged at some point, which had stained the box. I wonder if something similar happened here.
@lljk there’s no apparent leakage, nor any stickiness or moisture, when initially handling the bottles before rinsing. No individual bottle felt empty.
Overall, unconcerned with it, my inquiry is rooted purely in curiosity to see if I was a one-off or not.
After having one yesterday, definitely not a bad deal.
I just got mine. First thoughts were (very quickly) eww. Did anyone expect these to be sour / tart? Now that I’ve looked up reviews, it’s obvious, but wasn’t when I bought these. Gross.

I wonder why Danny finds the number 65 funny?
@tightwad Danny who? Am I supposed to know him? Is he a spokesman for that coffee shop chain?
@ItalianScallion @tightwad No. He’s the yo-yo king.
@tightwad @Trinityscrew I wonder if the No Kings movement includes yo-yo kings?
SHOTS!!! SHOTS!!! SHOTS!!! SHOTS!!!
Is the clicky face supposed to be Mat? I’m guessing that’s the name of the Matador mascot.
@Euniceandrich I think it’s supposed to be Danny, whoever the heck he is.
@Euniceandrich @Kyeh Yep, its Danny
Margaritas? No.
Daiquiris?
@alacrity Flavor shot for a Starbucks venti cup of drip coffee? Yes! (Your cardiologist says no.)
@alacrity @ItalianScallion who needs an espresso show when you can 185mg of caffeine this way.

This product for real looks like something that goes into a carburetor and not a human stomach.
Ingredient list please and thank you?
@Jamileigh17
Bought some hoping to replace the Celsius I drink before I go for a run. I’m sure they’re not as yummy, but couldn’t pass up at this price.
Lost me at sucralose
@cinoclav Yep. I quite enjoy not having optical migraines, it turns out.
@EvilSmoo Same here. It’s given me headaches and respiratory issues. Just bad stuff.
No idea about what this brand’s about beyond what the writeup said, but I’ve always enjoyed past caffeine shots from here.

@lljk
Sam disagrees with that descriptor.
@lljk Monkfish are definitely contenders for “ugliest species”.
Honestly curious if people know the movie this is parodying - I would not have gotten it.
@dave Not sure which specific Statham movie
@troy Ha yep, it turns out not to be one I’ve seen or…maybe even heard of. But it is appropriate for the product.
@dave @troy It is from Crank. If you guys sell jumper cables or one of those battery bank jump boxes again this movie has a scene for that as well.
Danny Duncan ?
heir to the Duncan Donuts fortune . . . ?
wait, that’s not right.
I guess I haven’t heard of him
@ekw Ah yes, love me some Duncan Donuts
I spotted these in my local gas station for $3.50/pop

@TimW Well, somebody’s had enough caffeine…

Failing that, this wouldn’t be the first time Mercatalyst’s buyers got something good for cheap just because it smelled like mildew…
