@dvermilion they’re glass, and yes they seem durable with nice solid screw cap. They look nice, just not as easy to get a easily measure amount from compared to, say, spice containers.
I imagine banging the tubes trying to get spices out it’s easy to accidentally get too much. If you have a use for the tubes after spices is gone, they do seem good quality.
@enville Right. The gin collection is for using with vodka to make your own gin creation. Experiment with various amounts of each spice. Seems worth a try.
@enville@SSteve
I think gin by definition requires juniper (hence the name).
Not that making infused vodka is a bad thing, I just don’t think gin is a term I would use for that result…
@chienfou@enville Correct. The gin kit has juniper berries in it. May God have mercy on the soul of anyone who makes gin out of their vodka without putting juniper berries in it.
@enville@gryhnd what do use as a base? I know vodka is vodka but they do vary quite a bit. And can be made from different bases. I often see “grain neutral spirits” listed at times.
@gryhnd@pmarin Oh, I can’t stand gin. I don’t like the taste of juniper. I was just saying that it wouldn’t make sense to infuse gin as it was already infused. I’m an Islay Scotch guy.
@enville@pmarin It’s truly personal preference, but when I could get it I used Buddy’s American Vodka. Otherwise good old inexpensive Burnett’s. I found the more expensive vodkas imparted too much of their own taste, even ones I like to drink.
@bx2a5z
For a long time I was buying bottles of TRAPPEY’S Bull Louisiana hot sauce which I would open and pour down the drain in order to be able to reuse the bottles for smoked olive oil and my own fermented hot sauce to give away at Christmas time. It was cheaper than buying empty bottles from any other place.
I purchased these the last time they were offerd. One of the jars was broken. Glass and spice were all over. With glass dust everywhere I disposed them. I sent pictures but they did not replace them. Very disappointed with there response
@fjp999 I think you will not be disappointed. Obviously not large containers, but cute and handy.
Remember salt doesn’t really “expire,” most of it comes from the earth as in “salt of the earth.”
EDIT did 2nd order to add to what I got a few weeks ago.
@somf69 Just gin. Never understood the origin of that word…. Yes, I know there is the internetz.
Bought these last time but went for some more salt and the other African one that was still left. Think I will blend the pink peppercorns into a grinder I use.

Seasonings greetings!!
Been using mine mostly on air fried potatoes. Happy with them… The test tubes are cute but not the most practical way to house spices.
@OnionSoup At least when they are empty, they can be recycled at the crime lab.
@phendrick or can start my own crime lab.
@OnionSoup @phendrick If you need help with the crime part I know some people that could use some “feedback.”
@OnionSoup What are the tubes made of? Are they durable?

Don’t you know Rhinos are endangered, especially the artful ones. And here you are selling artful Rhino spices.
I suppose eating art is better than stealing it like “AI”.
@mediocrebot How appropriate.
Award: unintelligible nonsense.
@DrunkCat Not really. Once eaten the art no long exist, much like your relationship with them.
@yakkoTDI k
@DrunkCat @yakkoTDI da 1 letr agin!
@pmarin @yakkoTDI k
I got onr of each last time. Some of the spices are bland or not the best.
The mvp is the gin o clock. I made the most amazing hibiscus lemon infused gin and brought it to a party. Everyone was impressed.
@ardycake These are the comments I come to Meh for
African Spirit sounds intriguing, and I’m always looking for new spices to try. No brainer.
Salty

@mediocrebot that’s not boring!

Isn’t gin already infused? It seems to make more sense to use this to infuse a neutral spirit to make your own bespoke gin.
@enville That’s exactly what these are for. I make my own gins all the time.
@enville Right. The gin collection is for using with vodka to make your own gin creation. Experiment with various amounts of each spice. Seems worth a try.

@enville @gryhnd Never heard of Buddy’s. What states is it available in?
@enville No idea. Check their site/Google.
These tubes will be perfect for storing jigsaw blades and scroll saw blades. And for about the same price I’d pay for plastic tubes at Woodcraft.

@bx2a5z @chienfou
Not much of a recommendation for Trappey’s hot sauce!
@bx2a5z @Kyeh
Maybe not… But their bottles are ‘the bomb’.
@bx2a5z @chienfou @Kyeh I haven’t had it in years but Trappey’s Red Devil was good. Only product they make that I have tried.
I’m slightly disappointed that none of the African Spice blends include sumac. But maybe that’s more Mediterranean or middle-eastern than African.

Gonna try the Salts variety

@pmarin Thanks for that. Are these mostly finishing salts? When I saw Atlantic Fleur de Sel and knowing how expensive it is I wanted the set…
All the leftovers that didn’t sell! Truly Meh! So very Meh! My brain, it trembles!
Can you play Gin Rummy with these?
@somf69 Just gin. Never understood the origin of that word…. Yes, I know there is the internetz.

Any chance of a SideDeal on lab-quality test tube racks?
@pmarin Just use a drill w/ hole saw bit—you can make a whole test tube tray!
Trying again:

@mediocrebot Those are some creepy faces. Well done.
