A most satisfying kzzzappp!
18For many months, one of the tennis-racket-shaped bug zappers sold here on Meh has been sitting in the top layer of a Pile-O-Stuff™ next to my chair, mostly ignored. At some point in the last 24 hours, a mosquito infiltrated the house and went on terrorist-hit-and-run missions around this desk. Many swats of the hand, claps of both hands, and swats from multiple improvised swatting devices failed to end its activities. And then I saw the stub of the handle of the zapper sticking out, extracted it from its hiding place, flipped the switch to “Annihilate With Prejudice”, and gave it a swing past my face. KZZZAAP! No more mosquito.
It is hard to convey the level of satisfaction achieved in that golden moment.
And these days, I need every tiny little victory I can get.

It’s almost satisfying enough to make you want to find a mosquito swarm and see how many you can get before the batteries run out. Almost
@ybmuG cept mosquito guts EVERYWHERE
@tinamarie1974 that’s part of the “almost”. That and all the bites from the ones you can’t possibly stop with one little racket - even if you use one in each hand
@ybmuG I’ve done that in our entry way outside. We have a little fountain with mosquito dunks in it, but the little suckers are still out there.
It was incredibly relaxing.
Omg that sounds wonderful.
Hey meh sell these again pls!
(@extramedium
please note pls pls I want one of these tennis racket bug zappers
and also that last incomplete torn open bag of Star Wars sucks you have lying around somewhere
in my next IRK pls pls pls pls pls.)

@f00l
Not sure if these were effectively different than the ones that are in the harbor freight offerings usually. I can attest to the fact that those actually work well, as well. I’ve used them on everything from mosquitoes and flies to carpenter bees with pretty good success.
@chienfou
it would be more fun getting them in an IRK box tho.
I’ve had mosquitoes in the house that were a pain in the ass to deal with so I think I have to have one
@chienfou @f00l I’ve got one from HF that uses 2 D cells. So much heft! So much amperage! So much Zappage!
@chienfou @f00l Totally unrelated: when you’re unpacking after a trip, and said zapper is sitting “net” up in a box full of stuff, do not grab it by the net.
Something might be holding the button on.
That’s a real attention getter!
@chienfou @f00l The zapper I have (bought here on meh) works fairly well for most mosquitoes, fruit flies and smaller bugs, but not so much for big house flies - at least the ones around here don’t fit well through the grid. I’ve had the most success by trapping them against a wall or window and waiting until they move around and touch the electric grid. Zap! (There’s usually even a small puff of smoke accompanying the flash and snap. )
@chienfou @f00l @macromeh ever get a stink bug with one?
@ybmuG
Haven’t actually tried that yet. This year we seem to be having a massive invasion of stink bugs in the house so maybe I should. The nice thing is they’re generally just sitting on a window and easy to scoop up and toss in the toilet or trash can. Don’t really see them flying around much
@chienfou you may want to avoid using the zapper if you or members of your family are among those that find their smell particularly offensive. It doesn’t really bother me but araT can smell them if i kill one and put it in the garbage. Having one supercharged with electricity is a definite no.
/showme woman reacting to a stinkbug being zapped by a bug zapper
@mediocrebot definitely not the reaction and not a stinkbug, but at least she has 5 fingers on both hands
@mediocrebot @ybmuG
In general I find stink bugs to be more aggravating than anything. The odor reminds me somewhat of cloves.
@chienfou @mediocrebot that’s similar to my impression. Apparently it’s a generic thing, kind of like whether or not you like cilantro or think it’s a revolting soap-tasting scourge on Mexican food, or so I’m told.
@chienfou @f00l @macromeh One year we had so many flies in the house (why? WTF?) I got the little hand vacuum out and just sucked them all into it (it was easy because they were flying and landing on the windows). I did not release them into the wild.
@f00l @lisaviolet @macromeh
Thank you for your service.
@chienfou @f00l @lisaviolet @macromeh I once had a hoard of flies in my basement (due to a rodent that died down there, yick) so I made a fly trap like this. It was gross, but very effective:

@blaineg @chienfou @f00l
And you would know this how?
