@Weboh@yakkoTDI One time when I was driving through the desert out west it had just rained the day before (might have been the day before that. I forget now). OMG I couldn’t believe how different it looked with all of the flowers coming out. It was pre-cell phone days or I am sure I would have taken a ton of photos. It was amazing!!!
@2many2no I didn’t know they were called that. We have a bunch of those and a bunch of other things around the 2 log cabins on the family farm (original log cabins built in the late 1800’s). The “aunts” and my grandmother are all gardeners. Me, not so much so. I do like looking at pretty gardens though.
The one that’s currently blooming at any given time in the yard.
(Right now… portulaca, roses, canna lilies, amaryllis, crepe myrtle, chaste lilac, ginger and various herbs … like basil and oregano…)
@ItalianScallion@pakopako
A weed is just a plant growing in a place you don’t want it. But in my case morning glories do tend to cover up my veggie garden if I’m not careful.
@chienfou@pakopako Yes, morning glories are one of those vine plants that will wrap around anything, so you have to be careful where you plant them and cut them back if necessary.
@ItalianScallion@pakopako
Mine are scattered willy-nilly randomly around the yard. They pop up wherever they can set down roots and just take off. Next thing I know they cover an area the size of a car hood in 3 days and choke everything out.
@Weboh Ooohhh - lucky you. Those won’t grow here. I prefer the fragrant flowers too; for me it’s lilacs, mock orange, daphne, roses and honeysuckle. Bliss …
Oh, and irises!
All of the flowers! Just depends on the season. Right now I’m loving hydrangeas, peonies, loads of different salvia, and clematis. The most impressive blooms right now definitely go to one of my cactus though. @chienfou y’all definitely need to come in the summer to see the flowers. Though if you come at the end of the summer, I will send you home with ALL the fruit!
Cactus!
@yakkoTDI Every cactus produces edible fruit, so I’m inclined to agree. Also gives bats and moths a food source.

@chienfou if you dead head your roses they’ll bloom the whole growing season. I’ve had roses since April.
@kittykat9180
Thanks I think that’s why we still have roses. Actually a lot of plants will flower much longer if you dead head them…
@chienfou I agree with this, although I don’t have nearly as many blooming things in my yard. But I’m especially fond of the fragrant ones.
I’ve always loved daffodils and jonquils. They’re always so bright and cheerful.
I like purple coneflowers and morning glories.

@ItalianScallion Aren’t morning glories detrimental (as in the vines choke other plants)

Zinnias have the happy vibe of a daisy, but are just a little cooler.
I have several autumn sage in my backyard. They aren’t the prettiest but they attract hummingbirds, so I think that makes them best.
@kittykat9180 Native trumpet vine is common around here, and the hummers love it.
@werehatrack I have seen those. The hummingbirds are fascinating.
The roadrunners are too but I don’t see many on my side of town.
@werehatrack
@kittykat9180, I was sure you would have chosen catnip as your favorite flower!
@ItalianScallion @werehatrack I didn’t even know catnip produced flowers.
@kittykat9180 @werehatrack Catnip with flowers, from Wikipedia:

Ylang ylang. All it takes is one tree, and there’s enough flowers all summer long to fill the neighborhood with a heavenly perfume scent.

@pskemp2 I love Magnolias! They remind me of home.
Hyacinths and lilacs
