@therealjrn@yakkoTDI Did not know about it. A lot of great movies from that era we rarely hear about. Looks like it is on Amazon Prime Video now (remastered edition).
@kittykat9180 was thinking that yes they were related (same TV Era). But I just want to come from work in my nice uniform and have Barbara Eden greet me as “master,” not that I’m into that dom thing but makes you wonder about 60’s fantasies everybody knew were there but never talked about it.
EDIT I think 60s were wilder than any of us may know, if we were even alive yet. The difference is that there was no recorded or documented history except maybe some writings and an occasional 8mm film. It was a world where basically there was no long-term judgement, except for occasional messy divorces or felony crimes. Otherwise, it’s was all good!
@pmarin I think every era of human history was wild times. People hold these images about the past that I think aren’t exactly accurate.
We’re a strange species with members who range from dangerous predators to loving and giving and everything in between.
@pmarinThe VVitch is the one from 2015, set in 17th century New England, starring those fun-loving Puritans! It was written & directed by Robert Eggers, a really distinctive filmmaker. His latest was 2024’s Nosferatu, which had it’s moments, a solid bronze, but the silver goes to his 2nd film, The Lighthouse from 2019. It was set in 19th century New England – again, those Yankees are a barrel of laughs!
Hereditary is the kind of movie that can stick with you for awhile, if you’re in the right frame of mind. Probably, the less you know going in, the better.
That well-known Christmas movie, Bell, Book & Candle!
Also, I just learned today today that Burn, Witch, Burn, the Peter Wyngarde-starring adaptation of Fritz Leiber’s Conjure Wife, is back on Prime Video, so I can finally watch it! I’m assuming it will be my second-favorite because of my notorious love of Peter Wyngarde. AND Fritz Leiber!
4 Rooms
@yakkoTDI You should have said Bedknobs and Broomsticks since 4 Rooms only has witches and is not about witches.
Anything that’s not Hocus Pocus
Wicked
The Craft
@nobile ohh, good one.
Every Witch Way But Loose
@MrGoodGuy Right turn Maleficent.
My childhood in the 90’s was shaped by Hocus Pocus and the book The Witches by Roald Dahl.
Not even honorable mention of Wizard of Oz, Sleeping Beauty, Frozen, etc., that had notable witches?
Escape to Witch Mountain & Return from Witch Mountain
[Spoiler alert] So, they are really aliens. Okay, then
The Wizard of OZ
Okay, the witches were secondary. Final answer.
The Last Witch Hunter
Okay, fine, it’s a terrible movie. But it stars Vin Diesel!
The Lords of Salem (2013)
What’s that one with Jack Nicholson? That one. Final answer.
@therealjrn Ride In The Whirlwind?
@yakkoTDI Sounds fun, but some bookworm guessed it…guess I have a new movie to watch.
@therealjrn @yakkoTDI Did not know about it. A lot of great movies from that era we rarely hear about. Looks like it is on Amazon Prime Video now (remastered edition).
The Witches of Eastwick? The novel was MUCH better
@st_ellis That’s the one!
And books, almost invariably, are better than any given movie.
But that wasn’t the question now was it?
@st_ellis But the novel didn’t feature Michelle Pfeiffer.
Practical Magic
Teen Witch was always one of my favorite.
Practical Magic! I love me some midnight margaritas.
Into the woods! Meryl as the witch rocks!
Not a movie but… I Dream of Jeannie
@pmarin
Also not a witch…
@pmarin lol not a movie and not a witch.
Did you mean Bewitched?

The Wizard of Oz
The Crucible
1990 version of The Witches. I can’t speak to the 2020 version, although it appears to have gotten lower ratings.
@Wireball_
I still wanna see it though bc I love the original.
Was the “Blair Witch Project” about witches? It sounds witchy.
@heartny The protagonists thought it was, at least!
The VVitch had great cinematography & a nice, creepy atmosphere, but Hereditary was next-level…
@ircon96 I don’t know those at all. more to seek out.

Stardust is arguably not “about” witches, but I think it is a solid portrayal of witches.
Practical Magic
Practical magic, witches of eastwick, hocus pocus (just taped to watch), the witches
That well-known Christmas movie, Bell, Book & Candle!
