@pmarin I remember those commercials. It was hilarious when he was a guest on Late Night with David Letterman. Dave gave him a hard time about the “corinthian leather.”
@actionPacked What if they made a site which just shipped out random amounts of pasta to you or your unsuspecting friends? Wouldn’t that be wild? Somebody should look into that.
Meh, you can get decent full leather grain duffels at a bit higher price but at least they will be completely made of leather and not the leather-canvas Frankenstein’s monster that this is. That said, these do look well-constructed.
If these are actually full grain leather, then these are good prices for a top of the line leather product. If they’re just genuine leather, then they’re not so special. I’m pretty sure if it’s not actually marked ‘full grain’ on the label, it’s not full grain.
As someone who works with leather as a hobby, full grain and top grain leather are the two highest grades of leather you can buy. Full grain is just that…the full top of the skin and not sanded lightly to remove surface imperfections, while top grain is lightly sanded before receiving dye and/or finish.
Thickness and how leather it is tanned and finished affects durability and longevity as well (chrome tanned, natural veg tanned, or a combination of both sometimes), but no matter the tannage, your best bet when buying leather is to go for full or top grain.
Anything marked ‘genuine leather’ is almost always crap. Glue and leather bits mixed together and formed into sheets. Yuck.
Sorry for my leather Ted Talk, lol! I’m passionate about real leather and I enjoy educating folks about its benefits over the fake stuff.
If I could get clarification that these are indeed full grain, then even as a leather crafter I still may pick one of these up. It’s cheaper than my cost in materials and time to make these for sure. (But with the number of yet unused leather hides in my basement, I think my husband would be less than thrilled if I did, lol!)
@k4evryng
I’m not coming from a knowledgeable place at all on leather.
Is the headline saying “full grain leather” but the description saying “genuine leather” what gives a bit of pause? I’m also a little hesitant based on the “nylon accents” which just seem like cost cutting, not what would be present on a $300+ item.
Do you think we can rely on the headline of “full grain leather” being the real situation? Seems like they’d repeat that in the description, instead of “genuine leather,” but it could be a bad copywriter? (or AI slop?)
FWIW, the Boconi website calls it “soft geniune leather” or “genuine leather”. Only the duffle has a mention of “soft full grain leather” on their description.

The look of synthetic leather for the price of real leather!
Nice looking, but…
“We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!”

EDIT that actually looks pretty comfy. Not ideal for a car seat probably. I want to take a nap now! Bedtime; see you tomorrow.

I’d buy this if the backpack came full of pasta.

@ciabelle alas…. If only! Then maybe Meh could team up with them, and fill leather backpacks and duffle bags with all sorts of pasta!
Way too small for what I need!
