It’s an external enclosure for a M.2 SSD. This allows one to use an internal drive as if it’s an external USB flash drive, but usually at a higher speed.
@Star2236 I usually take the old hard drives out of my dead laptops and put them in a hard drive enclosure somewhat similar to that; a USB cord is included that allows me to transfer the old data to a new device, or use it for external storage. However the ones I have are for old standard 7mm/9mm 2.5" SSD HDDs, this is for a different kind of drive.
As others have explained, this is designed to allow you to use an M.2 style SSD card as an external drive. This is an efficient way to reuse pieces out of an older computer when you’re getting rid of it. It would allow you to have a larger solid state external drive than a regular thumb drive would normally provide. This is a cost effective way to reuse some of the old bits that would normally get trashed.
How, pray tell, did you end up with it??
@Star2236 Seems to be for data storage, but I’m sure lots of people here can tell you more and explain it better than I can.

The drive would like this:

/image M.2 2280 SSD
Ok thanks, none of that makes any sense to me so I guess it’s nothing I need lol
