@yakkoTDI to be fair. I would argue it’s a small group of… People… Manipulating a larger group. Against their own interests. To achieve a goal. Apparently reducing the population. In this instance.
IDK that I’d default the large group to stupid… Also we don’t even know that that group agrees with this. Because of gerrymandering and other corruption… Government grandstanding for culture wars <> what people want.
@unksol@yakkoTDI For a time, the deniers will loudly proclaim "See? We got rid of the eeevil vaccines and nothing happened!" And then they’ll be wrong, and it will be too late.
@spacemart if they get away with this… I would agree. We know what happens already when herd immunity weakens. If this persists and a whole vacation state drops vaccinations that have been done for 50 years… Things to consider.
Full disclaimer: I would never want to live on the south east coast. I can adapt. But… Hot. Humid. Bugs
Arizona/new Mexico a decade ago was ok. IDK now.
I think we are Midwest. Then Mid North but Mideast
But don’t need this stupidity to spread from them or government wide. Or be a breeding ground
@ckcarlton@spacemart no. We do not. Protect yourselves just as you would during Covid. Come on down. Let the others thin themselves and their offspring out if that’s what they want.
My favourite line was this:
“If you don’t want to put whatever vaccines in your body, God bless you. And I hope you make an informed decision. And that’s how it should be.”
Which - in theory - should mean that the “smart” and “informed” people actually follow the true data. If they’re the vast majority - nothing to worry about. But that’s a big if…
But will the “big if” work out or will it go the route of the drop in MMR vaccine uptake with results like measles outbreaks and deaths?
Current AL outbreak (one case) is an unvaccinated child with an exposure traced to foreign travel… So the OP posit is still valid. @IWUJackson ('s) position is valid as well. IF there are sufficient “smart” folks the rest of the (unvaccinated) population will either get measles etc (and acquire immunity that way or suffer the (sometimes) fatal consequences of their choice) or never get those illnesses.
My personal preference would be to incentivize compliance with a reduction in insurance coverage for illness related to vaccination preventable diseases if you opt out.
Same goes for motorcycle helmets.
@chienfou I’m not sure that a reduction insurance coverage for illness related to vaccine preventable diseases would make a damn bit of difference. On the other hand just like the b******* that Nestlé pulled in Africa with formula, if you give them a physical something they’re more likely to do it. My local Vons is swamped with people getting flu shots and covid vaccines for the 10% off the grocery bill coupon up to $20. It works
@chienfou@sillyheathen However, I can accept that it’s their choice better than I can the vaccination thing, because if they’re injured or die as a result of that choice, it’s just them. If they’re sick because they didn’t get the jabs, they could infect vulnerable people like babies too young to get vaccinated, or people with existing conditions/elderly who may have gotten the shots but could still be infected with a case that would be mild for other people but not for them.
Around here, there’s a LOT of young kids riding really fast on e-bikes without helmets. That definitely makes me cringe.
@chienfou@Kyeh@sillyheathen Around the Boston area, it’s cyclists, adults and kids on the stand-up-type scooters, and Vespa-type scooter riders and passengers that often don’t wear helmets. The latter is against the law, but apparently it’s not enforced… any more than loud motorcycles are ticketed.
@chienfou@ItalianScallion@sillyheathen Yes, lots of Lime scooters around here too, but it’s the grade school kids on the e-bikes who ride like speed demons who scare me the most.
@ItalianScallion@Kyeh@sillyheathen
Riding without a helmet is definitely not recommended but that’s on you (as an adult). Kids should be wearing helmets as a matter of policy.
When Publix was doing flu shots and giving a $10 voucher if you got one (pre-covid) I stopped getting mine (free) at the hospital since $10 was a 6-pack of really great beer.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

dang i really used to enjoy vacationing there. between this and the concentration camps and being afraid of rainbows etc. no more

@spacemart and Florida thanks you.

@ckcarlton @llangley @spacemart lol protect yourself like it’s covid by traveling cross country
Meh
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ckcarlton @spacemart @unksol lol. I meant while they were here in Florida
@spacemart I have long maintained that Miami is the best place in North America to be from; FAR from. I’m going to extend that to the whole state now.

@ItalianScallion @IWUJackson history says no
/showme unvaccinated sheeple
Something went terribly wrong. Please try again.
@Cerridwyn @IWUJackson
/showme unvaccinated sheeple
@mediocrebot That’s all you got?
@ItalianScallion @mediocrebot seems to be a shortage for some reason lol

@chienfou it makes me cringe intensely, when I see people that ride bikes sans helmet and or leathers!

Make sure you keep masking and self isolating so the rest of us can laugh at you and live happy lives. Thank you!
[VolMod EDIT] no name calling
@digerifoo2 I think that this forum is “infected” with people who think science, like gravity, works all the time, not just when you want it to.
@digerifoo2 @Kidsandliz I think this thread has descended into political name-calling, just like I thought it eventually would.

Any thoughts, @thumperchick?
