We have four seasons here. Hot. Very hot. Very very hot. And not so hot. Technically winter is the not so hot. It might get below 60, it might not so winter is just winter
Winter in Central Alabama is not bad. We average about 30 days a year where the temperature gets below freezing at all. Very rarely is that the high for the day.
@sillyheathen I grew up with two seasons: Tourist and Heat Stroke. Then I moved to Houston, where we really do have four, although one of them runs a bit long.
@werehatrack I don’t know that I agree that Houston has four seasons. I grew up in south Louisiana and now live in Oregon and I would say we have four seasons but the south has about 2.5 seasons. Though I will say I think the south has had more snow in the last few years than we have so there is that.
I’m looking forward to the first blizzard of the year. My favorite thing to do is sit at the window and watch the wind and snow in the dark. Even better if its thundersnow, it’s so beautiful.
@chienfou@kjady I concur. I miss thunderstorms and fireflies having grown up in the south. I experienced a thunder snowstorm once and it was the most magical thing ever!
The one or two days of winter make a nice change. The rest of the fall, winter, and spring are pleasant, and this gives me strength to endure the inferno called summer.
I love running in the cold. The winters here are great for running. Sometimes I have to do a lunch run because the morning is too cold but we don’t get a lot of snow. Snow and ice are too risky for slips and falls.
My friend just sent me a video of snow on her deck. At least 4”. It’s 80°F where I am right now. I can’t wait for actual winter, cool and rainy, when I have reason not to wear sandals.
I am in NE Ohio. I don’t mind winter (but don’t like it as much as I used to, getting older, I suppose) as long as it isn’t too windy. Snow is actually a good insulator, so I like it as long as it is snow covered. Cold, wet, and windy sucks though. Also, people seem to forget how to drive in the first few snows of the season…
@wyvern
Amen.
You should see people try to drive here in the south when it snows. It’s a giant clusterf*ck if we get a few flakes that stick to the roads. Which would be fine if the people would just stay home (24 hours is pretty much the max it stays on the roads), but they will all run up to Walmart to buy things that they should have had around the house already fearing that the apocalypse has come.
@chienfou@wyvern Here in central TX the snow is so rare most people stay home to make snowmen or throw snowballs before it melts (an hour or two later). Our weather phenomenon is drivers speeding up when it rains. I guess the “thinking” is to reduce the time of exposure to the collision risk from other bad drivers.
Occasionally we do get freezing rain, more often than snow. That’s a lot of fun on the roads. But not for me; I stay home then.

@Cerridwyn It’s supposed to be 90+ again tomorrow.

We get the four seasons but we typically have to go up the mountain for proper snow. But it is very pretty when it happens.

If by “Going outside”, you are referring euphemistically to an outhouse, I recommend not dallying or you might be there until the spring thaw.

Thundersnow storms are AMAZING!

@kjady I love watching the snow fall.

Winter in oregon may not always be below freezing, but its probably raining. Upper 30s, lower 40s, and always soaked. Cold and wet.
Maine Down East is mostly wonderful in the winter. Cold. Few tourists. Nice folks. Makes for glorious Springs.

where I live it is Hot like Hell in the summer, and cold as Hell in the winter. I am used to it.
@Wollyhop Welcome to Wisconsin
@rancho @Wollyhop i’m in wisco. Grew up in michigan. Winters just suck
The temp says it feels like 15 out I’m ready for summer. I hate the cold I like to be outdoors.
In central PA, we have cold winters, but hot summers. It’s a good mix.
@AlienCookie
That’s the way It was in St Louis when I grew up…
