Recently had the best granola bar in my life: Garuka Bar. I had their original with raw honey, peanuts, and dried cranberries. Perfect balance of chewy from the honey and crispy from the puffed brown rice. If meh ever gets a pallet of those, I’m going all in
@RichSPK Larabars are built on a paste made of dates and nuts (so it’s got a not-as-fluffy nougat-y consistency) compared to KIND’s sticky oats and whole nuts.
Of the two, Lara. Its liquefied nuts (often cashews) are easier to swallow.
I’m biased towards the UNREAL line of candies (once sold on Meh!) which use chicory root sugars to cut down on added sugar/increase fiber while remaining “junk candy” feeling (see also: LITTLE SECRETS, also once sold on Meh).
For “healthy” “energy boosters”, I prefer something puffier that won’t get squished (sorry Lara) or break off chunks between my teeth (KIND is too whole-nutty): enter Builders (now a part of Clif’s). They’re “drier” Rice Krispies (they use protein crisps, aka puffed rice/grains) that’s dunked in icing (some melting is possible). Bettergoods might be a better known protein crisp alternative.
Bar-ring that, I’ve come across Rise bars (which are functionally Lara bar alternatives), the expensive Perfect Bars (a PB & veggie smoothie that’s solidified and has to be kept refrigerated), and RxBARS (a drier larabar that adds flavoring to make up for it)
I’ve only had Lara bars once and they were unpleasant. I eat Kind blueberry breakfast bars all the time, very tasty. I also used to like Clif bars but as I’ve gotten older, they are too sweet for me. Lots of things have gotten that way for me, I guess that’s good.
IQ Bars are my current favorite as far as clean eating and flavor go. Also the RXBAR Nut Butter & Oat are great, just a little less forgiving on calories and sugars.
For a brief while, Kind made a line of savory bars called “Strong & Kind.” I thought they were a nice alternative to the sweet ones, especially when I stayed late at work. The flavors were
Roasted Jalapeño
Hickory Smoked
Honey Smoked BBQ
Thai Sweet Chili
Honey Mustard
But they got discontinued. I saw they have some now that are a bit less flavory - there’s Rosemary, Jalapeno,and Paprika. I’ll have to try them out.
Lara seem more processed to me but I’ve never forgiven Kind for discontinuing their Black Truffle Almond and mango macadamia bars. Those were the bomb!
Candy bar.

I usually have a Builders Bar in the morning. Pretty good amount of protein.
Yes, chocolate and peanut butter.
never had either but my go to is elevation. aldi ftw!
Honey Stinger used to make Dark Chocolate Cherry Almond Protein Bars that were DELICIOUS! But of course they discontinued them.
Nugo Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip are my favorite protein bars
@heartny those are pretty good overall
No.
Of those two I prefer Larabar.
If I didn’t care about the sugar then I would go with Clif bars, Pro Bar or Power Bar.
I’d take Clif bar over this two options if I’m being honest.
Although it’s just plain 'ole store brand, I like my Great Value bars.
Cliff Bars!
Elevate, the Aldi rip off of Clif bar!
@user74860313 cant beat a good Aldi ripoff!
Barebell

They are my current like
although like most of them they are really glorified candy bars
@Cerridwyn Ooo - key lime pie and wild cherry!
@Kyeh just saw this.lol

@Cerridwyn The reviewer agrees with you that it’s like a candy bar. I’m intrigued by the variety of flavors other than chocolate and peanut butter.
@Kyeh
there is a variety pack, but it is the more standard flavors. (Nugo has some good ones too)
I carried a pack to worldcon with me and they helped when i long shifts at reg
@Cerridwyn I like the Larabars because they have flavors like lemon & blueberry.
I’ve never tried Larabar. I should. KIND bars are good, though.

@pakopako thanks! That definitely sounds worth trying.

Huh. I didn’t know Duplo was a food brand (and not just a toy brand)

Also chocolate contains magnesium?

I don’t understand the question, and I won’t respond to it.

I like them both, just not those flavors

@Kyeh Honey Smoked BBQ was a big fad for a few months. I might have said this in the Ice Cream flavors/movies topic.
@pakopako Yeah, and now it seems to be Pickle.
@Kyeh as long as it’s not salt and vinegar
@pakopako
I don’t like that either
@Kyeh
(I mean they should be the same, just not as “green” tinted)
None of the Above!
Lara seem more processed to me but I’ve never forgiven Kind for discontinuing their Black Truffle Almond and mango macadamia bars. Those were the bomb!
@ironcheftoni That’s really exotic! I’m sorry I never got to try them.
@Kyeh you never would’ve guess truffle would go with something sweet but I liked them. So sad when they went away.
@ironcheftoni Sweet and salty can be really good!
