I’m sure it is hobby grade in that it has standalone servos and receiver and lipo batteries and a removable body shell, but that whole brushed motor thing makes me balk at spending more than $50 for it.
@djslack yes but they use two brushed motors to (sorta) make up for it. Out of the box it runs pretty strong and not that far off from a brushless 2s car.
Downsides… Yes replacement parts are sorta available but the company seems to have stopped offering for this model so no where what used to be available.
The battery compartment is small. The main chassis is not open and it is a bit of a pain to get to where you can clean sand etc out. Oh and when you do, you also open up the differential so you can’t just blow the sand out.
It does not go anywhere near 30 Mph out of the box. It will hit thermal after a bit in the FL summer.
Upsides:
It runs just fine on 3s and you can fit a few of the folded 3s batteries in the compartment. It heps if you take the silly burn-protection plastic bridge thing off of the ESC’s heat sink.
The drive train is all metal and uses sealed bearings.

So much for that VIP experience
@jmhsrv This IS the VIP (VMP) experience.

@djslack fair enough. We own four of these now, though, and they’re pretty dang fun.
They aren’t going to win races but they’re definitely worth this price. The only downside is that the chassis uses self tapping Philips screws.
They also have spare parts on Amazon (have replaced servo, axles etc).
@gamera that’s good to know, both the good and the bad. Thanks for sharing what you know.
Easily available replacement parts is a strong plus!

It is a lot of fun for the price.
