Lots of photos of it charging Apple Watches which would a great feature at that price, but the specs only refer to charging Qi compliant devices (which does not include Apple Watches).
Actually, the first thing I’m going to say is “ZOMG is that thing fat?!”. Anything that fat fails the definition of portable right out of the gate. And phones are so much taller and wider than this, so why did they do it? Squash this thing out until it’s phone-tall and phone-wide and maybe 1/3 as thick, and you might have something. Meh, meh, meh meh, meh, meh.
@chienfou Erp! I didn’t realize the mAh-to-Wh conversion is based on the voltage of the cells (which makes sense now that I read about it) and since they’re likely 3.7 volts, that makes this thing 44.4 Wh
@ohhwell
New TSA standard calls for a 100 Wh max. Not really sure how well versed the TSA agents are on what size that would be. Current standards do state that they must be labeled in Wh.
@ohhwell
Yeah, that was my feeling as well. I don’t think TSA is going to mess with these too much. I know I have flown with a couple of 18-volt Ryobi four amp hour batteries which would be over 100 but less than the “approved by airline” limit (which BTW is actually 160 Wh) in the past when going to help my son with a build out of his basement.
I’m a bit confused by the “approved” exception. TSA examiners generally don’t have any interaction with you as to which airline you’re flying with at the carry-on scanning area. I wonder if you have to have some sort of written permit from the airline or be able to demonstrate that you have cleared with them if questioned? Also haven’t heard whether they are requiring you to take them out of your carry-on – much like they do laptops and tablets if you’re not TSA pre-check.
I’m sure all this will get sorted out shortly but for the time being there’s still a lot of potential wiggle room that could cause problems with people in front of you being “Karen’s” assholes no matter how polite and well behaved you may be. Especially now that they have implemented the Real ID requirements finally.
The thing I’m looking for the most this might have. Can it just attach without charging? That’d be great since it’s at your leisure to charge, no overheating, and just can stay on without constantly charging even at 100 percent.
@cole103 Yes, it does - and it’s hiding in plain sight. See the lanyard? Compare its length when it’s charging or not: the lanyard is the USB-C charging cord. When not in use, the plug nestles in a slot at the end - it can be seen in the shot with the AC socket next to it.
Would like to confirm what devices it’s confirmed to work with.
I thought MagSafe was an Apple-only term, but Qi-enabled implies a broader area (like Samsung) and maybe not some Apple stuff. If this did work with recent Apple Watches that would make a difference.
@pmarin I believe MagSafe refers to the apple magnetic attachment. It’s possible for a device to be both MagSafe and Qi independently. A non-Qi MagSafe car mount could hold the phone without charging it. A Qi charger will charge any Qi compliant phone (including all modern iPhones), but it will not hold it in place.
Like you, I’d really like to know if this can charge an Apple Watch. The photos suggest it does, the specs suggest it doesn’t.
@pmarin@mike69 If you look at the picture that has the apple watch charging, you can see that it is reversed and the phone is charging via usb. Not sure how I feel about that.
@pmarin Magsafe is just the marketing term for Apples circular magnetic connection system. There are a lot of magsafe accessories that have nothing to do with charging, like some pop-socket style handles, phone wallets, car vent clips, etc.
Qi is a wireless a charging standard that Apple adopted about a decade after every other phone maker chose to include it in their devices.
no fold out plugs for wall charging, no sale. no one at my house is capable of keeping track of a wall cube and cable. we can barely keep track of these portable chargers.
@whacko yeah, but can you actually use that cable to charge the power bank? There’s no reason it couldn’t – the USB C socket usually works both ways – but is that always the case with built-in cables? Even if it doesn’t work, they’d have to plan on someone doing that so it shouldn’t damage anything. Might have to try that on some of mine!
So, it shows that it charges QI enabled devices… Will this charge an Apple Watch Ultra? It does show a picture of one attached but I know Apple loves their proprietary hardware. Thanks!
About a decade ago I bought a battery pack that charged wirelessly on woot or meh.
If this thing had ability to get charged wirelessly and then in turn charged your phone wirelessly, maybe we’d get Nicolas Tesla turning in his grave slowly and just as inefficiently.

These look more like cameras than power banks.
@yakkoTDI Too quick, didn’t read the copy
@yakkoTDI

That’s what I thought it was!
Say cheese!
Can we get dimensions and weight please?
Is this a camera?
These fly beyond “meh” and land firmly in “wow, that’s really fucking stupid” territory.
Lots of photos of it charging Apple Watches which would a great feature at that price, but the specs only refer to charging Qi compliant devices (which does not include Apple Watches).
@Mike69 Wondering the same thing.
Wireless charging has not worked out for me. My main problem is that my phone is in a case.
@AaronLeeJohnson There are plenty of cases out now that are wireless-compatible! I’m rockin’ one and it works great
Actually, the first thing I’m going to say is “ZOMG is that thing fat?!”. Anything that fat fails the definition of portable right out of the gate. Bet you can’t get these LAX devices through LAX when TSA won’t relax.
Can we get TSA compliant specs - like Wh rating?
@chienfou Agree. In ye olde USB-A days, I believe that devices were 5 volts, and if that’s the case here, https://batteryguy.com/kb/knowledge-base/lithium-battery-watt-hour-calculator/ says this thing is 60Wh
@chienfou Erp! I didn’t realize the mAh-to-Wh conversion is based on the voltage of the cells (which makes sense now that I read about it) and since they’re likely 3.7 volts, that makes this thing 44.4 Wh
@andymand
Correct. But the key is whether that information is clearly labeled on the device itself. TSA will NOT do the math.
@chienfou TSA is not going to bother you over this little thing.
@ohhwell
New TSA standard calls for a 100 Wh max. Not really sure how well versed the TSA agents are on what size that would be. Current standards do state that they must be labeled in Wh.
@chienfou that would be partially incorrect. Depending on the airline, you are allowed up to 150 whr now.
TSA will not mess with you over this little thing unless you give them a reason.
@ohhwell

@dpease For Barbie.
Is it water resistant?
So, it is named after Los Angeles International Airport, or just lazy? Also, I want that transparent phone, even as a prop.
@PooltoyWolf I too was more interested in that phone than the charger.
I would like to see someone from meh open it up and test capacity. Looks really small for 12000 mAh . I know a lot of companies lie. Is meh a liar!?!?
“AI” is much like a mental laxative because it just shits out your brain till your skull is hollow.
@DrunkCat Is shitting out these comments helping you win them back? Perhaps you should use less AI laxatives in your quest to win them back.

Does this have a USB-C charging cord connected or do I need to carry one?
I can’t find that info anywhere on the 'net.

This looks like the current version and it specifically says it can charge an Apple Watch.

Yeah, Meh.com editors definitely have some room for improvement on the advertising of this device’s specs.

@walarney The USB C charging cable for this charger is built in, it doubles as the lanyard. So you’re halfway there…

Kind of scared to do this giphy however

Yikes!
@chienfou My feet always land where I may or may not intend them to
So when they fail after 91 days they would be an Ex-LAX?

@username
Did you have to hold the battery pack up against the monitor?
Looks like I’m going to have to buy the White album again.
