Legit Question about the Resident Alien aka /Showme Ai on Meh
1Can I use it for my own purposes?
I feel like we could be using this to create some serious Webtoon or Webnovella content… hear me out…
There are so many funny people on this website … gifted in many ways and we don’t all agree… but WHAT if? We were like the Dog Caucus that was recently legitimately created in Congress that bridges all sides of the political landscape… Dogs are great and we all agree on that…
Anyways. … I would like to use the MEH.com Ai engine to make images for all the story ideas that I personally have… (I feel like I’ve been waiting for this kind of autocratic technological device that I can use to tell the countless stories I have inside of me but I don’t have a creative community in my personal life to help me make that particular dream happen… and believe me I have tried to gather others to join me all along the way - just as I am doing right now).
So in some ways I feel like Meh and their AI bot is my dream come true… but I don’t want to be alone in this… (but I will if I’m allowed to) What are the logistics? Can we do this? Together or alone? Can these wildly funny and original ideas turned cartoon reality be something we can weave into stories that touch people? If I use a Meh image can I just credit it/them and use it like I want to for my own story telling purposes?
Can I start My Own Private Idaho chat with the Mehtbot? So that it’s only the two of us and I can develop a Special Relationship … I know it’s a funny thing to write but I’m not kidding… can I privately engage your AI to make images for me? It would all be PG… (in case anyone’s mind wanders there… )
Copywrite issues (Creative Commons)… etc… enquiring minds want to know… I’d also appreciate any one else’s thoughts. Please be kind because I’m not looking to be shot down… it’s a fledgling notion that is suggested in earnest.

There are a lot of free AI image generators available - Apple has DaVinci; Microsoft has one in Microsoft Designer, etc.
Showme is powered by DALL-E I believe.
So to use it for purposes outside of entertaining the peanut gallery here in the forum, it’s probably best to go straight to DALL-E where you can develop the relationship you desire.
@djslack This is correct. There seems to be some assumption that MediocreBot is behind the results and doing the heavy lifting in image creation, but it’s just sending the request to DALL-E and sharing its results. The command originally launched using Stable Diffusion and even though the version was updated a few times, it was never really a “new” release. The results from DALL-E showed steady improvement and better overall quality, so it was changed and remains that way (for now).
@shells To answer your question… Yes? I mean, you could create a series and DALL-E has even improved its ability to maintain central characters in repeat concepts, but honestly, it’s still not quite there as far as uniform results go. Also, it has very recently been caught pulling images directly from source material which could get you into trouble even if “the AI did it!” The AI did generate that Minecraft logo (see the comments for errors in the design) but you would still get sued for using something like that in your work. You’d want to run most results through something like Google Lens to see if their AI can find the source materials. If not, it’s unique and you can probably use it any way you like.
For anyone interested in AI-assisted webcomics, I stumbled upon Paintings & Photographs a while ago. It’s not an ongoing comic — it has a single storyline that you can read through in an hour or two.
(The topic of the comic is also related: a painting artist that is concerned about photography coming onto the scene and putting her out of business. Much like current artists and others are potentially threatened by AI tools.)
I found it randomly via Reddit, where the author explained a bit of the process. Among other things, it took 10,000 AI images to get the 128 pictures actually used. Most of the effort was in guiding the AI to generate visually similar characters over and over. (rather than random people in each shot)
Just some things to think about if you want to make an AI-powered comic. (Personally, I thought it was a neat idea until I realized how much work it would be … almost as much as learning to draw my ideas. Although there are other AI art tools that could be used to modify things, so a combination of those [and unlimited credits] could make it viable even for someone like me.)
@xobzoo Then there’s the minimalist approaches used by Dinosaur Comics, Cyanide and Dynamite, and xkcd, among many others. The extensive representational art is not always strictly essential…
@werehatrack @xobzoo Cyanide and Dynamite? Either that’s one I haven’t heard of, or you’re implying Dynamite = Happiness. I’ve never had a chance to find out, myself.

But the well mean replies sent me to a dead end… my plea to do Meh.COM story telling was instead a “hey look over here thing” telling me to find a solution as an individual with Dall.E… yah. I did try it… they don’t give out individual accounts… maybe they did but they don’t any more. So here we are
