List you top three horror movies of all time.
5In honor of Halloween list your top three favorite Halloween movies of all time.
I don’t know which I like more The Exorcist or Poltrigist. The exorcist, for the year it was made is really great, I’m sure that movie was pretty scary back in the day. I absolutely love portraitist (original, not remake). Parts of it are almost comical to me, probably bc I’ve seen it a million times. I love the tree scene and the bodies coming out of the ground in the swiming pool. No 3 is a tie between nightmare on elm street and Halloween (original again). Although I thought they did really good job with the remake of nightmare on elm street. I’m not the hugest rob zombie fan so while I do like the newer Halloweens I still like the original.
It’s really hard to just list 3 horror movies bc there’s so many more out there that are really good too but I’m sure people will mention them.

In all honesty, I gave up on horror when it all turned to gore.
So: The Universal Monsters (campy by today’s standards)
Dracula
Frankenstein
The Wolfman
Alien was fucking scary back in 1979
@Cerridwyn I just got back from seeing The Wolfman at the theater. Yesterday was The Invisible Man and tomorrow is Dracula.
@sammydog01 very kewl
@Cerridwyn
Those are some good ones. I miss watching tcm on fridays nights during October with my dad. I always loved the one, he was like fish man or something and would go after the beautiful girl. Is it creature from the black lagoon?
@Cerridwyn @Star2236 This guy?

@Star2236 yep that’s him
@Cerridwyn @Star2236 I loved Julie Adams in that movie - I just wish they could’ve had an episode of Murder She Wrote in which she and the gill-man got back together!
@Cerridwyn If you liked Alien I predict you might like watching the prequel Alien Earth, a series on HULU. I watched the series recently and then I went back and watched Alien and ALL of the subsequent movies.
The original, of course was good and the following movies weren’t really there, but they were watchable.
I think this most recent “prequel” is darn good.

@Cerridwyn @Kyeh
Yup, but he’s in black and white in the movie I watch
@Cerridwyn @therealjrn Regal is showing the best old Universal Studios this week and my theater is doing Creature in 3D. I love the big screen (we checked out the armadillos and possums in Dracula last night).
@Cerridwyn @sammydog01 I don’t think I have ever seen the “classics” on the big screen, unless you count Young Frankenstein.
Sounds pretty cool!
The Haunting (1963)
When I was a little kid, I saw this on TV and it scared me! The wall “breathing” in particular. I was too young to be watching that movie!
Not a horror movie, but there was an episode of Lost in Space with some kind of green “monster” that watching as an adult was ridiculous, just some guy under a sparkly rug or blanket.
It’s hard being little!
As an adult, this movie made me uneasy.
Paranormal Activity (2007)
The entity pulling the covers off the bed in particular. :shivers:
My last one is just fun.
Poltergeist (1982)
I’ve probably seen it 5 times and I could watch it for 5 more. It’s just ridiculous enough but it has a great cast and storyline.
@therealjrn I always find it fascinating what different people find scary. I don’t remember the haunting being scary at all. I don’t remember how old I was when I watched it, I know it was on tv, and I know I went and immediately got the book to read it. On the other hand I was really bothered when Bambi’s mother died
@Cerridwyn @therealjrn The breathing door got me too, I still find The Haunting terrifying. And the banging. Well pretty much everything.
Back when UHF channels first became available to us with a new antenna,
one new channel ran Psycho every night at midnight for about week as a channel promo. I was in about I think the 3rd grade?
My best friend and her brother had watched it in Thursday night. I came over for a sleepover in Friday night and we watched.
My very loving friends kept on assuring me that “oh nothing happens in this scene”
They lied with absolute glee of course.
I wound up watching most of it from behind a couch, peeping over the top.
The next night, having survived the first viewing, I also watched with glee.
We were busy telling all our friends to sneak into the tv room and watch it. Many did, and blamed us later for their nightmares.
Perkins should have gotten an Oscar IMHO.

Sorry about the facebook thing, I don’t know how to do a direct link.

Glad to see more educational opportunities!
@f00l
One of the interesting things about Psycho
If I remember, the film can be shown on TV without cuts, and could be shown on TV without cuts back in the 1960’s.
Hitchcock was a master of suggestion
You never see a weapon impact flesh. You only see the stabbing motions and Ms Leigh’s terrified reactions.
You never see a wound. Only the shower water (mixed with blood and therefore dark in color) runoff.
You never see any explicit (re TV censorship) shots of Ms Leigh’s body.
For the “spiraling in death shot” of Ms Leigh’s face, Hitchcock appears to have taken a very hi-res still photo of Ms Leigh’s face and had the camera slowing come in on that.
I think Hitch may have filmed that shot so slowly that no actor/actress could keep perfectly still with no breathing, so Hitch supposedly filmed a still photo instead?

Dammit
Not sure if these are technically Halloween worthy, but they’re over the top, super cheesy, black comedies? They’re funnier than they are scary.
I remember seeing Michael Jackson’s thriller for the first time when I was like 3. My dad said I could watch it but mom didn’t want me to bc it would give me nightmares. Sure enough it did but I didn’t want to get my dad in trouble so I tuffed it out alone in my bedroom that night. Nightmare on elm street at my grandmas funeral was a different story. I woke my parents up for nights bc I saw Freddy in the clowns that decorated my room. My parents were mean I remember and said, “we told you not to watch it so now you have to sleep by yourself.” I was 3 or 4. I have since had very traumatic dreams about Freddy as an adult that have been drug induced.
@Star2236 But you still love horror movies?
@Kyeh
Omg I love them. Like someone else said, I’m not as big as fan of the gore ones but I’ll watch them. Horror movies are the movies that can totally entrap me. Like after a death, when I just wanna loose myself, most tv won’t hold my attention but horror movies will. They’ll allow me to escape for a couple hours and not think about anything else. I don’t know why it is, you think it would be the other way around but it works for me. Maybe bc I started watching them at such a young age. Maybe it’s just me but it like horror movies. Another thing is no matter how scary it seems, I have to watch it bc what I imagine in my mind is probably worse. For me, it’s a way to face my fears in some sorts.
Other notable movies I like are the shinning, I actually really like the made for tv one too. Also the conjuring series, that’s kinda me facing my fears. Real life paranormal stuff scares the shit out of me. And coming from someone who’s lived in house with very strange and unusual occurrences as a kid.
@Star2236 Okay, that makes sense! I’m pretty phobic about horror, but I can totally lose myself in a really good suspense thriller or convoluted mystery. It does seem like getting a break from the bad things in the real world.
-Scary Stories to tell in the dark: Pretty damn faithful to the books with a great plot.
@Wollyhop
I’ve never seen the goosebumps show but always wanted to watch it.
@Star2236 You can find it on INTERNET ARCHIVE 4 FREE! {{No ljnk : ( }} Search it up. It is the full show.
@Wollyhop
@sammydog01 (Insert Skeletor laugh here)
Signs
Carpenter’s The Thing
Army of Darkness
@zhicks1987
Omg I HATE army of darkness with a passion. Before phones existed two of my friends used to put the movie on ALL the time, like everytime we were drinking and that was pretty much every night. My options were to drink more and pass out or listen to them repeat that stupid movie. So I would drink until I passed out. We were always at one friends apartment and there was nothing else to do.
@Star2236 @zhicks1987 Bruce Campbell is the best. THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK!
I’m a Hell House LLC fan girl. There’s even a Facebook page dedicated to the series. Check them out (gotta watch the original first).

Apparently giphy is not a fan.
