I was never scared of clowns as a kid, but I gotta say, Grimace always freaked me out. I just couldn’t get my head around what he was supposed to be. What weird mascots creeped you out as a kid? Let’s talk in this week’s Shoddy Goods chat.
One of our local TV stations featured a weird, unblinking, constantly snarling sea monster as part of the children’s programming. Basically a rigid head perched atop a blanketed performer. It completely freaked me out until I got a little older. Mondy the Sea Monster on WBFF in Baltimore.
Ronald has always been creepy. And as the Vandals said, “Ya see, he’s only in it for the burgers and that’s not very funny!” It’s surprising to me that kids still know the McDonaldland Gang though, considering they started phasing them out after parents groups complained about their ad campaigns and ruined everything, as they always do. When’s the last time you saw Fry Guys, Captain Crook, Early Birdie or Mayor McCheese?
The mascot that creeped me out was the California Raisins, because Claymation was creepy in general. The only clay animated one that I liked was The Noid.
I have yet to figure out why some of the stuff breaks people out. Although it was very interesting when I was watching the new library and show the other day and one of the people called this ask and that the main librarian had grown up bsk. After Stephen King and before Stephen king. Which I’ve always said that I think it was Pennywise that many people afraid of clouds. Because they never bothered me. And all of these were just advertising gimmicks. I don’t know why people are bugged out by them. I really am starting to believe the comment that we’ve raised a generation of wimps. Now get off my lawn
