Oatmeal and raisin cookies are just fine so long as you are aware that you are going for an oatmeal and raisin cookie. It’s the surprise when you think you’re going for a chocolate chip but you actually get oatmeal raisin that makes people hate it. It’s like going for a Coke and getting a beer your brain just recoils in horror at the unexpected taste
@TheGreatNico Exactly. As long as I can tell that they’re O/R, I can avoid them. But when they go into Decepticookie mode and make me think they’re CC, it is not a welcome surprise.
There is no "“best,” it’s the homemade one you’re eating at the time! Cowboy, peanut butter, white chocolate macadamia nut, and caramel gooey bars do rank up there over the ones listed!
The Peanut Butter blossom, basically a peanut butter cookie with a Hershey Kiss planted in the middle. Hard to beat and fairly easy to make.
Also, while you can buy a number of fine cookies at the store or from Girl Scouts, when it comes to “Best” none of them compete with home baked. Especially mine and double especially my Mom’s. (Bias freely admitted)
My mom used to make cookies called Jubilee Jumbles that were my favorite. Kind of a cakey, not-too-sweet cookie with burnt-butter frosting. I’ve tried making them a few times, but they’re not quite the same, somehow.
Here is one recipe (but I haven’t tried this one yet): https://numstheword.com/jubilee-jumble-cookies
First of all, the choices that they have pretty much all suck, there’s oatmeal raisin, peanut butter just to name a couple popular ones that I’d pick over “molasses” moles asses is more like it, I mean what is this the 1850s?.
@Thumperchick I used to make something like this that the Englishman dubbed as AntiBloodwork cookies. He was pretty sure you’d have type 2 after eating more than one or two.
@DocJRoberts Every cookie except Browser has a loyal following somewhere, but very few people like all kinds indiscriminately. I’m fairly picky, not going near anything with PB in it, and avoiding oatmeal/raisin and molasses cookies in particular.
Crumbl cookies (who are generally overrated IMO*) makes an Oreo sandwich cookie that shows up in my dreams every once in a while. Imagine an Oreo made with two cakey cookies and a marshmallow fluff filling. Pretty outstanding.
* I know their cookies are straight up made with Betty Crocker cake mix and then they charge upwards of $4 each. One day I’ll figure out how to bake my own.
@djslack say no to the crumbl. Their cookies are not worth the calories or the cost. Granted I feel that way about 80 percent of commercially produced food.
@sillyheathen oh, crumbl can eat my whole ass. When I saw the email about this post I was like “when did I say good things about crumbl?” A few years ago I guess I might have done that.
That oreo cookie is a good memory but that place is dead to me. A few weeks ago I was suckered back one last time by the offer of some kind of speculoos cookie butter pie. When I went they said no, it’s sold out. That was the last chance. Fuck crumbl cookies in the neck. They’re overpriced and not very good and they also just stink.
@djslack I don’t know how I missed that response but it made me proper laugh out loud and I almost spat a cider drink all over the Englishman. Thank you. I needed that. I’ve been sick for over a week and today has been a day so that was fabulous even if it was delayed.
@sillyheathen I’m glad you got a laugh, and I hope you feel better soon!
A friend asked me today if I was planning to go and get the Dubai chocolate whatever they have and it set me off again. I think they may have just been expecting something along the lines of yes or no.
Also, it’s cool that we started another round of cookie talk!

@Kyeh@roachy
Opps I did it again. World market kills me. I just spent the best part of $50 on biscuits and pop. They had IrnBru today so of course I bought all of them. I also got the Englishman a tin of heroes. I considered the quality streets but they were pretty rubbish last time we bought them.
@Kyeh@roachy I also procured chocolate covered hobnobs and Galaxy orange chocolate digestive biscuits…. They always see me coming. I shouldn’t be allowed in that store.
@Kyeh@roachy@sillyheathen My local Publix grocery stores have the Raspberry Jammie Dodgers. I tried them once. The raspberry part is amazing. The Dodger part tasted good but was dry, almost stale. At the price they charge I was a little disappointed.
They have a few other UK treats that are great but the recent prices make them easy to avoid on a regular basis.
@Kyeh@roachy@yakkoTDI the apple and blackcurrant are far superior but you do need a beverage to go with them for that reason. Hence the whole tea and biscuit thing. Biscuits are intentionally “drier” or more crisp to stand up to the tea that you dunk them in.
@Kyeh@roachy@sillyheathen Well that makes more sense. I rarely have anything with my hot tea except peace and quiet. Iced tea is for meals and cooling down.
@ybmuG I have to concur with you on that! Also pretty isn’t always delicious, and at times the ugliest dishes are the tastiest! The world is a funny old place!
I think I like every cookie listed here and in the comments EXCEPT for Oreos. I don’t get their popularity at all. I’ve even tried the novelty flavors and I’m always disappointed.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Macadamia white chip lime. I also make them with some chili powder added.
@werehatrack You had me until lime.
@Fuzzalini @werehatrack you just straight up have me.

Oatmeal raisin. It has to be soft. none of those hard cookies!
Soft-baked PEANUT BUTTER!!
Oatmeal
Walker’s shortbread with ginger.
Ginger Snaps
@hchavers That’s a decent horror movie series.
Italian wedding cookies. Little balls of almondy goodness!

Here found in their natural habitat - the Italian wedding cookie cake !
@ybmuG you ARE a wise man!!! It is my fav part of a family wedding
Another vote for oatmeal raisin. There are some other exotics that are really excellent but of the standards I like OR the best.
Black and white cookies
@heartny great memory from childhood. We called them half and half cookies though.
Website cookies?
@sicc574 I am not sure that would qualify as a “best” cookie.

Christmas cookies!

Girl Scout Samoa, snickerdoodle, or the ones from Honolulu Cookie Company.
Ginger snaps, with an obscene amount of ginger
@dmnhntr86

@macromeh They do sound good. I wonder if she had a secret ingredient, or did they just taste better because you were a child and she made them?
Pecan shortbread (sandiest).
Home made Oatmeal Raisin with a healthy dash of cinnamon.
First of all, the choices that they have pretty much all suck, there’s oatmeal raisin, peanut butter just to name a couple popular ones that I’d pick over “molasses” moles asses is more like it, I mean what is this the 1850s?.
@Georget5145 IMO molasses = the suck, as a cookie or as an ingredient in a cookie. Do Not Want.
kitchen sink cookies (as in it has everything but the kitchen sink) - Panera does a decent one.
@Thumperchick I used to make something like this that the Englishman dubbed as AntiBloodwork cookies. He was pretty sure you’d have type 2 after eating more than one or two.
Snickerdoodles for sure, but no love for peanut butter cookies?
@DocJRoberts Every cookie except Browser has a loyal following somewhere, but very few people like all kinds indiscriminately. I’m fairly picky, not going near anything with PB in it, and avoiding oatmeal/raisin and molasses cookies in particular.
@werehatrack I’m with you on the oatmeal/raisins. trash cookies. But I’ll devour a whole batch peanut butter cookies. molasses is a mood cookie
Mexican Wedding cookies

@djslack If you can ever find a source for Kresko Black, no mere Oreo-group cookie will be good enough. Sadly, they are made only in the Ukraine.

@djslack @werehatrack don’t know about Kresco Black, but black cocoa is definitely the oreo flavor carrier.

Is a pizzelle a cookie? Because I really like those, especially since I don’t get to eat peanuts anymore.
@Helot Yes they are! Do you ever make them?
@Helot I love those! They are easy to make too
Specifically brown butter toll house chocolate chip cookies. They leave the normal recipe in the dust.
Mom M’s Monster cookies, which recipe I posted here before.
Various commercial cookies that provide teh sublime combination of chocolate and orange flavors, like Aldi jaffa cakes.
Archway Cherry Nougat cookies. Sadly not made for years.
It’s a cookie. They’re all good.
Particularly the peanut butter fudge ones with jam filling.
Fudge or chocolate chews. They are like cookie brownies :
@cfg83 my parents were just gifted some brown sugar walnut chews just like this. They were pretty delicious.

Also I vote Hobnobs are the best biscuit! Also Apple and Blackcurrant Jammie Dodgers. And you can get both at World Market which is ace!
@sillyheathen I love Hobnobs too! Also - these are more tea cakes than cookies, but the Mr. Kipling Battenberg cakes.
@sillyheathen I had hobnobs visiting a friend in England. They were really good. I second this
@Kyeh my friend. They are not tea cakes. They are biscuits.

That is what the Englishman said.
@sillyheathen Okay! Whatever they are, they’re luscious!
@Kyeh I concur and fan with a cuppa tea!
@Kyeh @roachy

I also got the Englishman a tin of heroes. I considered the quality streets but they were pretty rubbish last time we bought them.

Rainbow cookies. Even though they aren’t really cookies. I think they count. I can eat my weight in those
@roachy are they made of light and moisture?
@sillyheathen taste like they are. Maybe with a pinch of magic
@roachy @sillyheathen I bet the Brits would call them “biscuits” too.
@Kyeh @roachy oh
they would because they’re British and they’re always correct! At least according to them.
Don’t forget about crunchy Florentine Laceys :
I miss these oldies but goodies :
then again… there’s always this Kookie

I am rather fond of the OG 8 oz. chocolate chip cookies from mycookiedealer.com

@sillyheathen delicious is never boring!

Oatmeal raisin. The way I make them is with golden raisins and candied ginger
