I have the little version of this guy that I put horizontally under my computer monitor for those hotter gaming session days. It works well with a small footprint. Unfortunately, I don’t think I need this fan, but I like the sleek look.
@cfg83@chienfou@mediocrebot who said my garage floor was cluttered? Ok. A a little cause expedition parts that may be going to the metal recycler. But the metro is up in the driveway as of this morning because she came in dirty but also the engine compartment needs washed out before putting things back. Bottom of the transmission is covered in oil for some reason. Nevermind the spiderwebs. But that’s all the “fur”. Can’t wash her in the garage
Also was working on the plumbing to the replacement hose bibs to use the pressure washer. For several reasons. House needs washed to. And it’s finally gonna be warm for a few days.
@cfg83@chienfou@Kyeh@mediocrebot pretty is subjective but I tend to think so. Granted not. Many people are into 63 HP econoboxes from the 90s. That people could accidentally run over.
@chienfou I don’t think I said it looked cluttered and that is not the floor. Couple normal things. For working on a car. That thing with all the car parts has four swiveling/locking wheels and can roll out of the way. And would normally be a table saw stand. General bench. Not saying it’s a great one. Just a stop gap.
Granted context/expected use is key. If I had a wife and kids and one of us was driving them to school every morning. That car would probably be in the garage. Or both. We would definitely have an electric. My stuff/chemicals would be stored a little differently. Canoes would be off the ground. Ceiling storage racks would be up…
There is definitely some bachelor stuff going on there. But at one point like this

The machine shop I ended up with was reasonable I think and the block and head/valves came out looking great. It’s just been cold and not a huge priority.
Machine shops/small niche businesses feel like they must be hard to keep alive. Cause you want the best/closest guy who knows what he’s doing. For a fair price. But they can be hard to find if they don’t at least have a website. Or a neighbor/friend to point you to one. Never mind the business they can get.
Machine shops definitely aren’t rare but they are rarer.
@chienfou@unksol Ah, the ubiquitous yellow cat litter buckets! We also have a collection of them - they can be handy, but get brittle and disintegrate if left exposed to the sun too long.
@macromeh
Those TidyCat buckets are absolutely “da bomb”!
Even though I never used the stuff I policed up a bunch of them back in the day when we had a recycling center in town. For some reason they were unable to recycle those.
I keep a line of them along the drip edge of a lean to on the north side of my shop and they have lasted for years. I collect rainwater in them then snap a lid back on them to keep the mosquitoes out. That water then becomes the water I use in my vegetable garden. I also have a couple in the garden stuff that my wife uses when she’s weeding to collect what she pulls. And of course, they’re excellent for storing things inside the shop you have in large quantities. Some are dedicated to large PVC plumbing fittings from DWV projects, as well as wood split for the smoker etc.
But my most common use is to cut the bottom out of them and cut them in half. I use the two resulting collars around my vegetable plants when I put them in the garden. Cardboard and leaf litter/grass clipping are then used to mulch in between the plants. This keeps the water primarily around the roots to the plant when I’m transferring the rain water from the bucket that it was collected in to water the plants. It also keeps that weeding to a minimum. I can get about four or five years out of each collar.
I found that the most frequent failure point for me was the handles, probably because of carrying heavy water and dirt etc in them after they’ve been outside for years. I found that a short piece of rope threaded through a 4-in piece of PVC pipe then knotted at each end would slip into the notches on the sides where the handles used to be connected.
So, yeah, TidyCat buckets for the win.
Absolutely. And, to this day, the two seat Metro convertible we had was one of my funnest cars to drive. Though I must admit I was a bit startled when I opened the hood and only saw three spark plug wires!
@chienfou@macromeh the buckets are #5 which is much harder to recycle than some others and even some recycling on those plastics is a lie. Many places wont recycle it and may just “accept” it and throw out.
@macromeh@unksol
Yes. That’s absolutely what I do as well. I have found an amazing array of uses for these buckets including the ones I’ve listed above.
All of my original buckets were “recycled” (ie rescued) from the recycling center. I have since found a couple on the side of the road waiting for trash pickup which I have also policed up. I probably have 20 or so still around the house. Many of the lids have failed over the years, as have several handles (easy fix) but the buckets themselves have been remarkably sturdy and handy. I think my lid and handle failure rate is tied to the fact that I leave them out in the sun to cover buckets of water to keep the mosquitoes out of them.
I’m pretty sure some of those are pushing 10 years old.
“and when I decided to come down, the beach was empty. The blankets and the towels and the bags were still there, but no people, none anywhere in sight.”
On the Walmart site, it shows a “diameter” of 11.5", which seems to include the feet when vertical. The fan itself is clearly not 11.5".
The feet attach magnetically and so one pair of feet on each end would be 1/2 of 11.5" plus the actual diameter of the fan, which looks like four or so inches.
Guessing based on those stats, it looks like over six and around 9 or 10" total when horizontal? Look at the Walmart site and see what you think with the addl info.
I am going to assume “touch sensitive” also means that it emits an overly loud BEEP with each tap. Why do all these touch-controlled device manufacturers insist an an 80+ decibel BEEP for each tap or button press??

Is Meh buying Sharper Image one piece at a time?
@werehatrack
Nope… Just selling it!
So, I’m guessing that it does not oscillate?
@lisameh Certainly seems like it.
@lisameh @squishybrain
If looking for oscillating this may be more your speed. I don’t remember what I paid for the lasco off woot a decade ago but definitely not $40-50

The normal stand fans are probably fine. Temps have been crazy. It was below freezing last night. Other half of the US is smoking hot…
@squishybrain @unksol Thank you!
So… How do I get the car hair out?
@unksol If your car is growing hair, I think it’s time to do some cleaning of the vehicle first.

I’ve had the block and head back since November but it’s been cold.
Also brake lines are shot lol but now that it’s warming up again. Have all the known parts
That being said a saturn SL was way better for a lot of things
@unksol
You.

(But to be honest, it looks way better than my barn/shop does).

@chienfou omg the gas can on top of the radiator balanced on the water milk jugs…
I’m sure that can was empty. But FFS. That was during the pandemic but obviously took years to build up. Weekend to fix. Back in 2021. Efficient?
@chienfou @Kyeh @mediocrebot @unksol Metros are MPG rock stars out of the box on ecomodder :

TL:DR keep those buckets !

Absolutely. And, to this day, the two seat Metro convertible we had was one of my funnest cars to drive. Though I must admit I was a bit startled when I opened the hood and only saw three spark plug wires!

But back when it was a cat or three. Hey. Free stackable bucket with a detachable lid? With some decently cheap reasonably good litter? Yes please.
I’ve got a couple stacks/stopped buying them when I couldn’t see running out of buckets. But they are handy
@chienfou @macromeh even more importantly nestable. You just pull off the lids and each new bucket only adds ~2 inches?
Can nest like 20 and just put the lids in the top bucket

@mediocrebot Looks like the fan comes with a fog maker option. Nice.
“and when I decided to come down, the beach was empty. The blankets and the towels and the bags were still there, but no people, none anywhere in sight.”
Slender Fan seems selective indeed.
@mehcuda67 I concur. Suspiciously, only the people have gone with the wind… More likely a land shark da-dum da-dum da-dum Candygram.
@viol
I love that bit!
What is the height when the fan is placed horizontally?
On the Walmart site, it shows a “diameter” of 11.5", which seems to include the feet when vertical. The fan itself is clearly not 11.5".

Re AI Movie scene: Aw, yeah. A little Dog Day Afternoon, before Pacino made every roll him playing Pacino.
I applaud your effort for Georgia Red. . i’m on the fence.
Just got mine. Where’s the remote?
