[SOS?] In case of emergency, what do you have handy?
2Tell us what you’ve invested in, set aside, or stocked up on in case something crazy happens.
Is it semi-expired junk food? Our records suggest that it’s quite a bit of semi-expired junk food.
But also, like…who has a generator? Maybe some flares?

The most important resource - sanity…
… and semi-expired junk food.
I keep bottled water in the house at all times and I refresh it regularly. I also keep a box of real protein bars and one of protein drinks that I like. Also canned tuna and other canned goods that could technically just be eaten from the can.
I do not have a generator, apartment life, but I have some things to keep phone and tablet charged. I should check on their charge.
Never assume in an emergency that you can drink tap water. And it will go flat, but you want potable water for every human and animal in your household, enough for 3 to 5 days
@Cerridwyn
A well.
…and a generator capable of running it.
Plus some gas to fuel it.
And Water Bob for when the fuel gets low.
Some of everything.
Mom used to say that as long as she had toilet paper, she could trade for anything else. Covid proved her right.
@blaineg you aren’t kidding.
@blaineg @jouest
While not outright hoarding it, we do have a little bit squirreled away for a rainy day.
Or the next pandemic…
@blaineg @jouest in those days people discovered the power-wash bidet seats instead. Then in an emergency there was no city water for about 10 days. So, yes, toilet paper. I wasn’t there (Asheville NC) but friends resorted to 5 gal backers of creek water to flush toilets.
Emergency catshirts.
@narfcake Just the essentials?
A towel.
Is something crazy going to happen?
@djslack Ford Prefect would be proud of you.
@capnjb @djslack
I am too!
I have a bizarre large amount of solid soap from LUSH. Pounds of it, stored away in a big box in my closet. I have it because we don’t use it, and it was frequently given away, included in gift boxes, etc.
I have often joked that in case of apocalypse, I will become the soap source, a la Mad Max. “You wanna get clean? YOU COME TO ME.” Trading that stuff for the goods we need, etc. Yeah, you can smell soft and pretty again, FOR A PRICE.
For our personal use, we have disturbing amounts of Starbucks Via instant coffee packets and breakfast cereals. Oh, and Splenda in tiny packets. Couple thousand of those. nod
@TrinSF I bet we could sell that soap for you
@jouest @TrinSF How is your Stroopwafel stock? The small sealed packs stay almost as fresh as a 10-year-old Twinkie.
@pmarin @TrinSF they’re the warehouse insulation so it’s hard to say
2 generators, a wired in connection to my house to connect the generators and an interlock that makes me shut off the main breaker so I don’t back feed the power system, a pile of bottled water (we use it sometimes so it gets rotated through) a whole buttload of canned goods, a couple of chainsaws (1 gas one electric) 2 cases of gin & 5 cases of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey of various grades.
I have never counted but I would guess a thousand rounds of ammo and whole galaxy of multi colored pistols, revolvers, rifles and shotguns.
Not that you need all that for an emergency.
But once you get locked in to a serious emergency preparedness stash the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

@Garfield43 apocalypse party is over here, everybody
@Garfield43 @jouest How many machetes?
you can’t kill a zombie without one.
might want some stakes and a hammer too
And if you never saw it
https://stacks.cdc.gov/view/cdc/6023
@Garfield43
Pretty much what Garfield said, except no automatic switch for the generator.
Multiple varieties of edged and blunt weapons [no reloading needed], and an assortment of apropos firearms for our needs- with adequate reloads.
I’m a true believer in the coming Zombpacalypse.
@Cerridwyn @Garfield43 @jouest
Enough…
Or maybe a few more than…
@Cerridwyn @Garfield43 @jouest
I have it printed out for reference.
Plus,I have a CDC "Don’t be Zombie"T-shirt.

@Cerridwyn @Garfield43 @jouest
Machetes, that is…
@PhysAssist I’m too cheap for one of them there fancy automagic switches.
I have a Chinese knock off Square D manual interlock.
It makes it so you can not turn on the breaker connecting the generator wiring while the main breaker is on.
My edged weapon supply is lacking I freely admit.
I have a smallish K Bar someplace and a buttload of pocket knives & some boot knives.
Speaking of zombie prep a friend of a friend I know has enough ammo to double tap everyone in his small town just in case they turn in to zombies.
It isn’t the amount of ammo that impresses me but the fact he did the calculations ahead of time.
He also has all his ammo organized and listed in on line data bases he can access from his phone.
Whereas mine “around here someplace, I’m sure of it”.
@Garfield43 @PhysAssist If a friend of mine ever makes the news, the phrase “heavily armed compound” will probably be used.
Best thing is a camper or RV ready to go. With some attention you have a tank of water, propane for heat, and lots of expired food in the cabinets, but still edible in case of emergency. And a first-aid kit, warm clothes, flashlight and a minimal set of tools. Also a radiation detector; probably not part of the standard survival kit.
@pmarin
Don’t forget poly sheeting, duct tape, and NBC- PPE suits…
@pmarin
It is for those of us that live close to a nuclear power plant - that and some Potassium Iodide
@pmarin @ybmuG humans are a radiation detector if you wait long enough
/showme emergency Power banks, flashlights and balloon dogs
I was trying to post a YouTube video but now it keeps going to the login screen instead. To show I’m not a bot! @mediocrebot combat mode activate!
Condoms. Lots of condoms.
@Pavlov do you even want to repopulate the earth after Armageddon?
@jouest @Pavlov they’re for emergency water storage
@Pavlov @ybmuG
“Do you have water??”
“Loads.”
@jouest @Pavlov I think that is Elon Musk’s plan. Then go to Mars and populate that too.
@jouest @Pavlov @pmarin
He needs to go first.
TrackRs lots and lots of them
@riceatusc they will be currency in the aftertimes
I can yell really loud.
@lisaviolet prove it
@jouest So, what did you think? Pretty loud, right?
@lisaviolet oh damn. I had my window cracked but still!
@jouest Just sayin’.
A change of clothes. You only need to shit yourself once in public and you’ll be thanking yourself you have it.
@Konraden I had an irrational fear of this when I was in my twenties. Joke’s on me, was 35 when it actually happened.
@jouest there are two kinds of people. People who pood themselves as an adult, and liars.
Lots of powerbanks
