Tear gas pens: Shoddy Goods 110
2I don’t think I want a tear gas pen, but it does make me think of all the silly novelty pens I’ve seen through the years. I mean, of course, the ‘flip the pen upside down and everyone’s clothes float off’, but after you’re 13 or so, that has less appeal. I loved those “6 colors in one” pens. I remain obsessed with space pens, where I can write upside down or under water or in space, all circumstances I continue to wait for. How about you, got any favorite pen, especially if it’s got any special features?

My favorite pen was at Pic ‘N’ Save in the 1970’s. It was a Snidely Whiplash spypen that shot those little plastic orange “bullets” about 3/4 inch long. It was obviously(?) a recall from shooting a kids eye out.
I made it worse by heating up a pin and pushing it through the plastic to make a dangerous dart.
I wish I had bought like 5 of them and kept a few in packages.
That’s the thing. If I could go back in time, I probably wouldn’t change history. I would just tell me to buy 2 of every toy and never unbox one of the toys …
/showme Worn out old man travels through time to the 1970s. Old man tells 10 year old version of himself to buy two of every Star Wars figurine and keep one sealed in original packaging box as an investment.
@cfg83 Here’s the image you requested for “Worn out old man travels through time to the 1970s. Old man tells 10 year old version of himself …”
@cfg83 Speaking of orange bullets, these are what I mean …

I love pens. They can be so fun. I have a few fun pens from Woot!, but I don’t think I have any from Meh. What’s up with that? I have a pen with a fan on top that comes in handy when the A/C goes out in the office. I have a neat purple pen from Dollar Tree that looks like a racing car with wheels that spin so I can race it around on my desk during meetings. I have a lot of pens with purple ink. Of course my current favorites have balloon dogs on top. When I was a kid, my favorite pen was the multi-colors in one. It didn’t get much better than that. It was even more exciting than the one with the ship that would float back and forth as you tilted the pen.
Multicolor fine-point pens saved me doing diagrams and equations in graduate school. I’ve saved a notebook or two and am amazed at how neat and orderly it all was.
Currently my fave (other than the perennial Bic 4-color, now, sadly, only available in medium) is a Zebra F-701 stainless fitted with a Space Pen cartridge. Writes upside down and (theoretically) underwater and in space. The stainless body survives my perennial poking and prying with whatever’s at hand.
