@therealjrn cookies are always a good choice for office gifts. They are certainly better than a layoff notice; I got that one year but, it was only a temporary layoff.
@therealjrn
Yikes! Thankfully I only have to deal with less than a dozen people in my ER. They generally get gifts I’ve made. Things like hot sauce, jam, smoked cream cheese or oil, banana bread , etc and over the years many of them have become “dependent” on those items once a year!
@accelerator
I typically bought cookie tins, popcorn tins or boxes of chocolates to give to individual departments, especially those that often got neglected by the doctors. Med-surg, ER, ICU, surgery etc. would get gifts from the docs for the department many times. IT, respiratory, lab, radiology, not so much and dietary and housekeeping were neglected altogether. I would generally get something they could share in their department and send it from “the ER”. Most times I would sneak into the department when nobody was around to leave it.
Since I only work PRN now and I’ve been out of town for Christmas the last few years I haven’t done that as much since I retired…
On the years that I had to work Christmas Day (when I was full-time) I would frequently put on a Santa hat and walk around the hospital and give everyone in the facility some candy on Christmas Day.
@chienfou That was a very good idea to include everyone. My wife works in radiology. Each employee in her department receives a $15 butterball Turkey coupon. I believe the Radiologists get a little more than that!
Since I’m not married, both of my parents have gone home to heaven, my sister and her kids hate me and don’t have anything to do with me(PTL) all I have to do is really is buy for a few friends and my cat but he gets a lot of stuff all year
My dad. Mostly because I don’t know where he is, or what he’s like since I haven’t seen him more than a dozen times since I was 9… and none in the past couple decades…
@IWUJackson family schisms are tough. I haven’t heard from my daughter unless you count the time she texted me last father’s day to tell me nobody loves her anymore.
I’m still here, still loving, but I’m not going to accept her wholesale stealing and lying. You know, detach with love. I’m still here for the grands.
I always had trouble buying ~100 gifts for staff back in the day. Sam’s Club cookie tins can only take you so far.
