The scariest celebrity costumes: Shoddy Goods 120
3All right, bad Halloween costume role call! In fifth grade I was an IRS agent, complete with a (clip-on) tie and a briefcase. In sixth grade I had the “generic Halloween costume” shirt. How about you, any childhood Halloween costumes you were particularly proud of or now embarrassed by? Let’s hear ‘em in this week’s Shoddy Goods chat.

My husband and I still dress up for Halloween. We wear costumes to hand out candy on Halloween, for the occasional party, and for science fiction or anime conventions.
This year, we already wore our costumes on a cruise earlier this month and will where them again to hand out candy. We will be MaoMao and Jinshi from “The Apothecary Diaries”.
7th grade: Abraham Lincoln. The hat was posterboard held together with very visible Scotch tape. But what it lacked in craft, it made up for in cool, right, guys? Guys? Right…?
I grew up with those silly plastic costumes. My mother couldn’t sew on a button. And you know what even back then I knew they were Silly plastic costumes. We all wore them and we weren’t bothered by it.
In second grade, I decided I wanted to be a green bean for Halloween. You read that right. My baffled but undeterred mom crafted an excellent costume; exactly 0 photos exist, and to this day I don’t know what I was thinking.
@ampersandranch What a shame there’s no photos!
I think it was 2nd grade I decided to be a punk rocker. I’m still proud of that costume to this day. I made it completely myself (mix of my dance costume and random things around the house) did my makeup and hair myself, and got mad respect from all my older cousins (something that I craved when I was younger). When I was 5, my mom made me Glinda from the Wizzard of Oz and she did and awesome job on that. It looked exactly like Glinda. That was a really fun costume too. The costume I hated the most was 5th grade. I had no idea what I wanted to be and my dad drove me to a couple different costume stores before I settled on a court jester. In all those Halloween pics I’m so unhappy. I should have been happy my dad was willing to drive me around.
HIKING! VIKINGS! STRIKE KING [BRAND FISHING LURES]! AWESOME!
I was 7 and my mom helped me make a pirate ghost costume.
In theory, that sounds like a high concept for a 2nd grader. In practice, I was wearing a white shirt with a ghost face (black eyes and wavy mouth) with an oversized denim jacket, an eye patch, and spatulas for hands.
I know exactly what I was thinking, and it only works with limited childhood logic. (Undead pirate LeChuck confused the heck out of me.)
I actually had a Paul McCartney mask and costume when I was 6 or 7. Wish I still had it. It probably had the same fate as all my comic books and baseball cards
