We’re not convinced that there’s still much good to be wrung out of Black Friday anymore, but once upon a time it was a gold rush of legitimately amazing deals.

Archie McPhee jumbo mystery box, either 2010 or 2011, no idea what it cost but it was HUGE and filled with STUFF. I still have probably half of it sitting in a box because it was useless, but it was amazing and I would buy one every year if they still did it.

As soon as I started reading I said I have to go order one, what a let down when I got to the end! I just got a email from them today but I haven’t opened it yet. I was SO EXCITED!
…for about 10 seconds!
Lol
In 2007 I guess, the Nintendo Wii was released. My friend was deployed and his wife was pregnant and he asked me if I could get one for her. I camped out in line outside of Target overnight and came home a victor.
I see upon research that the Wii release was mid November. I remember this as a black Friday accomplishment, but it might have been launch day and subject to the vagueness of time. I’m going to count it either way.
iphone SE 64gb at $79 and iphone 12 mini 128gb $229 (that is the phone I am still using). Both the first Black Friday after they were first introduced. Doubt these days I can get a newer iphone at such a low price.
Last year I got a cheap TV on Friday and my kid accidentally broke it on Monday. coming up on one year anniversary of “kids get to enjoy the TV with the weird lines on it” though.
I don’t think it was actually black friday but one morning I was going to toys r us for a gift and there was a line outside the door. I asked the people waiting there if the store was open yet and they said yes, the line was for the toy of the year - a hatchimal., something my daughter had asked for but was entirely too hard to find (and a little pricey… but it was what she kept asking for). So I hopped in line and got her the hatchimal . It was awesome seeing her unwrap that thing.
@Cerridwyn@werehatrack my wife and I were driving South to the Woodburn Outlet stores, about 45 minutes. Of course like at 2AM. 20 minutes in we agreed “forget this!” I think got coffee and went back home.
My wife’s friend who was also trying said there was a huge traffic jam just getting to the highway exit and parking lot. Seems like we made the better choice.
$99.99 for a 40MB hard drive at CompUSA. Regular price was $219.99
(Yes, megabytes. That was … several decades ago.)

WORKER BEES! HERCULES! TURKEY GREASE! AWESOME!
I count my greatest Black Friday triumphs as the years when I just ignored the whole thing. That’s on the schedule for this year as well.
@werehatrack this!!!

I got 8 hours of sleep, a personal victory on Black Friday.
Early 2000s. I snagged a Sirius radio boombox for my partner. It’s the only year I was at a store at open.
