What happened?

TLDR: What happened to our nerdy, happy, little corner of the internet? Despite the decidedly exaggerated descriptions due to follow below, I feel disheartened, disappointed, disillusioned, and so, I dejectedly fall into deep despair.

What’s with all the “junk”brands on meh? It used to be merchandise that was supposed to sell in normal channels but didn’t and was then being sold on meh.com by a mediocre corporation (wink, wink) in limited quantities, at (ridiculously) low prices. But now I feel like it’s all shite sold at high prices that’s not even worth it for pennies on the dollar.

Shite that’s almost exclusively seen in suspect retail channels. Such channels that sell crap and shite such as shitty catalogs like Heartland America (are they still around?); outfits like QVC—fun fact: my last IRK had an item from either QVC or HSN—and sort of icky retail channels such as meh’s sister sites that bank on gimmicky media brand associations.

What happened?

What happened to all the refurbs? Where are the Roombas? Where are the Dysons? Where are the name brand electronics that didn’t sell out? What happened to the overstocks, closeouts, and leftovers?

What has become of the once-great Mediocre-verse?

What happened to the Mercatalyst Empire?

It seems to me that the Stores.com Shit Show (an exaggerated moniker, to be fair) targets shoddy stuff towards such people that have too little sense and too much money. Is it to simply to slovenly chase so many dollars by stooping that low?

To be fair, maybe it’s not that. In all seriousness, there are plenty of other possibilities.

Maybe I have the wrong impression. This is subjective after all.

On the other hand, perhaps my impression is objective, but I’m simply not in the loop on what happened.

Maybe there are circumstances in the closeout and overstock world that us outsiders normally aren’t privy to. God knows, retail is an entirely different beast than it was years ago.

But still I say: What happened? Why all the shite? I’d love to know such things. Perhaps a soothsayer such as @Snapster could speak, say, and so-forth.
