My friend has an antique Econolite Niagara Falls Motion Lamp that still works; there’s a glass sleeve inside that spins and gives the illusion of motion.
@heartny@yakkoTDI HAHAHA this is something my brother would have done in our childhood. He once discovered you don’t mix red phosphorous and whatever else he was playing with in an aluminum pie tin which became a catalyst. Boom! He was doing it in the basement and that blew out the pilot light on the furnace. He was lucky not to get hurt.
He got our high school to let us out early on the last day of high school my senior year (he was 2 grades under me) by putting contact explosive powder on the floor in the science wing (crackled only when you walked on it - he was always careful not to damage things) and a smoke bomb in the ventilation system. It was too small to really smoke things out much but the school got tired of his shenanigans and let us all out early. He (and his friend) never got caught either.
He’d also make things we used to blow up sand castles we made at the beach on vacation. Long fuses were the key. Our sand castles were 3 or 4 feet high. I am totally surprised all the parents at that campground left the lot of us alone as we messed around. I am presuming they were doing adult things having successfully got rid of their kids who were just “playing on the beach” and not swimming on the beach where they’d need watched.
Can we say he was interested in chemistry and engineering? My parents buying him stuff that could be used to do these kinds of things certainly encouraged this interest. Likely if we were kids today someone would have called DHS on my parents. Instead everyone lived to tell the tale and he majored in chemical engineering.
@Kyeh thanks! I love making them. I have a ridiculous amount Ive designed. I’m sadly not set up to be able to make them until I finish the shop. They’re super fun though. I’d really like to make a few designs that are white paper with hand painted watercolor. I’ve also made a tardis with 10 and 11. I also designed the lion, witch and the wardrobe as an actual wardrobe. It’s one of my favorites.
A lamp that entertains of course.
“Entertainment lamp” sounds like something from that aisle in a Spencer Gifts store…
A lamp with a genie inside would be quite entertaining
@heartny
Oh, best answer already!

Depending on how high one is, a lamp that changes colors would be pretty entertaining.
@sjk3 Is Denver high enough?
It should at least pulse with the music.
All of the above, a lamp that does it all.
Something ITALIAN…

@chienfou HAHAHA, I seen one of them before. I believe it was given as a Gag gift!
@chienfou when I send out orders around the holidays, I put my FRA GEE LAY leglamp sticker on it.
@sillyheathen
That’s awesome (cue bot)
HIKING! VIKINGS! STRIKE KING [BRAND FISHING LURES]! AWESOME!
@chienfou @sillyheathen I know someone who had a lamp similar to that in their living room. Can we say an R rated living room?
@Kidsandliz @sillyheathen
So, probably best NOT to put a black light bulb in it, right?
@chienfou @sillyheathen

A Lava Lamp is still fun to watch even if I can’t drink alcohol any more.
For party entertainment: a disco ball. “Night fever, night fe-ver-rr!”
We have all sorts of other “mood” things maybe a mood light I could look at in the morning to decide if it’s a good time to get out of bed.

@pmarin I love him so much! I’ve seen the Martins perform together a few times and they’re amazing.
These are some of the mood lamps I make.
@sillyheathen Okay, you win!
Those are beautiful.

@unksol I concur!
Saw this chicken/bird lamp in Home Goods tonight and thought it might qualify as an entertainment lamp. The price was entertaining at $275.
@heartny Yeah, that price is hilarious! Fun lamp though.
Gummy bear lamp
