@PooltoyWolf@yakkoTDI Do you know the British word “chuffed?” It means “very pleased,” but to me it also sounds kind of like “puffed.” So maybe getting praised makes one feel chuffed?
@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf@yakkoTDI Funny Brit vs. US english story:
A friend from New Zealand (Kurt) was visiting. Kurt is an auto mechanic by trade.
A US friend (Mike) was having an issue with his new sporty car (a Nissan 280Z) and Kurt offered to take a look at it. He looked around under the hood for a bit, then turned to me and asked “Do you have a torch?” (meaning a flashlight). Mike’s shocked reaction was priceless!
@Kyeh@macromeh@PooltoyWolf@yakkoTDI
Had a doc for a while who used the terms bonnet and boot when referring to the hood and trunk of a car. Had to explain that to more than one ER patient when he was asking about amount of damage to the vehicle after an MVA.
Space. That is the Universe. It’s easy because, you don’t have to do anything. You don’t need any danged gadgets, paraphernalia, power supplies, fittings, nozzles, etc.
You see space is expanding or if you prefer, inflating, all on its own, and there is nothing you or I can do about it.
Hey, wait a minute. Suppose. Suppose. We get a gazillion of these inflation thingys, put the batteries in backwards and have them gizmos suck instead of blow.
Could we stop the inexorable expansive inflation of space?
It’s the endless summer cycle. The grandkids come over; they want to play in water. Earlier years were easy. I just turned on the lawn sprinklers and you would have thought I had created the biggest and best water park in the world. Then it all changed; my wife brought home an inflatable water park. It had a pool, sprinkler pad, and slip and slide mat. I had to get a bigger air compressor to inflate everything. But, as it turns out, it’s not the inflation that really sucks but, the deflation and packing up that literally sucks the most. I won’t even go into drying, folding, packing, and storage hassles. My life is way more complicated now and the kids are less happy because the apparatus doesn’t measure up to the local swimming pool.
@accelerator I have had a deflated bouncy house in my yard for a month because I can’t get it packed up before it gets either dewy or rained on and then takes another two days to dry. considering blowing it up one last time and putting it out to sea.
@jouest Perhaps inflate and photograph it. Put it on Offer up, or Facebook marketplace. Tell would be buyers they are responsible for packing it up and transportation.
@accelerator good idea. though my area is so populated with trash fairies that we don’t even need Offer Up. I can just stand on my front stoop and shout and it’ll be gone within the hour (faster if it’s metal, never if it’s a TV)
@accelerator that all-in-one inflatable “waterpark” sounds like it proves the rule of “more complicated than it needs.”
I’ve been in big engineering groups where the same thing happens. “Well, that is very cool, but why??”
“The customer wanted a waterslide! … they are a big customer and we need the business…”
@pmarin I’ve been there too! I work in a research and development laboratory for the DoD. We invent, or further develop, directed energy concepts. It’s mostly conceptual engineering design and prototype with proof of function testing. Some of the concepts go on to become a fielded system; others are used to prove it’s not going to work. Either way, it starts with a very complicated electrical engineering process utilizing input from physicists and mechanical engineers.
Put a bunch of engineers in a lab with some physicists sprinkled in and the possibilities are endless!
FWIW I just bought an inflatable 2 man kayak from the sales section in the aisle of shame at Aldi yesterday ($45). I’ll reserve judgment till I try and inflate it in a few days. I’m thinking the power inflator for my SUPs should be able to inflate it.
@PooltoyWolf
Clearance shelf… $45! I’m interested to see what it looks like when it’s inflated. Should be fun to piddle around on the lake with locally.

Girlfriend.
@yakkoTDI
She keeps accidentally getting air leaks and then you have to either patch or get a replacement?
Do you meet them by messaging them in as dating app?
Just wondering.
If you meetup in a dating app and agree to get coffee in the first date, who pays? You, or Ms Inflatable, or do you go Dutch?
I am not annoying to inflate >:c
@PooltoyWolf We just need to lavish you with praise and compliments, right?
@Kyeh Unfortunately I am not self-inflating lol.
@PooltoyWolf But we can inflate your ego by piling on the praise and admiration.
So … easy, not annoying!
@Kyeh I’ll give you that!
@PooltoyWolf Well, you’re pretty praise-worthy!
@Kyeh Awwww, that’s high praise in and of itself!
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf
/showme inflated pool toy wolf
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI That’s pretty cute!
@PooltoyWolf @yakkoTDI Adorable!

@Kyeh @yakkoTDI I do! My fiancé taught me the phrase ‘well chuffed’, meaning very happy. Heh
@PooltoyWolf @yakkoTDI Oh right, he’s a Brit, isn’t he!
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI Yep, from Leicester!

@Kyeh @macromeh @yakkoTDI That is amusing heh. I brought back a vintage torch when I last visited!

A leaky autopilot.

@kuoh You can take Otto along in your car now, too! Results may vary.

@kuoh There’s also a wearable Otto inflatable cosplay suit on that same site.
Your boss’ ego.
The economy
@heartny
A politician’s ego–no, wait! That’s the easiest thing to inflate!
@ItalianScallion Those are usually self-inflating, which is the most annoying thing about them.
@werehatrack Of course, but they always have room in the ego bladder just in case there’s an “admirer” around.
My poor crumpled brain.

I dunno. Might be worth a try, ya think?
@Jackinga
Did you even read the OP?
@Jackinga
My wife’s ego. She already rules. She doesn’t need the attitude to go with the power.

@chienfou TIL ALDI sells inflatable kayaks! Never seen them at my location.

I only bought one of them… Not sure why it posted twice!
@chienfou @PooltoyWolf You bought a 2 man kayak, but only 1 man was on the box, so the math checks out.
