I’ve only run my current phone down below 8% once, and I seldom get it below 25%. I still have a small power bank in my purse, and I should probably check the charge on that.
@shahnm Refrigerating alkaline batteries has a negligible effect on their self discharge rate and the condensation from opening the door can cause corrosion and make things worse. It’s only really a net gain if you are still using zinc carbon batteries (old TV remotes, I guess) or keep your home above 78F.
My phone always sits on a mag charger at home. My car has a built-in Qi charger, so I don’t lose power when driving. Rarely does the phone get below 50%
I’m rockin’ the iPhone 11 after the big upgrade from the 6 . The battery on the 11 is degrading to a point that it is in the red by late afternoon. Hard or impossible to install a new battery in iPhone. Anyone know how?
@accelerator there are places that will do it for you, many of them local drive-up places. Not sure if cost/value is justified vs trade-in to newer device.
You can do it yourself (according to videos) but you need special tools to open the phone and hope not to damage it. Also if you try yourself you have to find a “legit” replacement battery which is risky. I think after a lawsuit Apple actually sells self-replacement stuff (they didn’t use to)
EDIT I think phone 11 might be at end-of-support so it probably already got its last iOS update (except for critical security fixes which they continue to do)
@pmarin I’m always at end of life scenarios with my phones. I “upgraded” to the 11 when the 13 came out and abandoned the 6. Now it’s time to say goodbye to the 11. I would go back to Android but the boss is not a fan.
I am old-school - my life does not revolve around portable devices. If a device’s battery runs low, I put it on the charger and go do something more productive.
@macromeh I’m the same. These damn phones seem to be the only way to communicate with the world. My time here on meh and time spent on FB Marketplace and resulting messaging, trying to sell shit, pretty much consumes my phone time and poorly performing battery.
@accelerator I actually do very little browsing on my phone (only when necessary). I spent 42 years at work sitting in front of a screen, keyboard and mouse. Old habits are hard to break.
@macromeh Same. 40+ years, most in front of a screen. Logistics and contracting.
Actually only the last 20 was “Chair Force” The first 2+ decades were aircraft maintenance and deployments down range.
@macromeh I’ll never understand how people can stand doing Internet things on a phone and mine only really gets used for taking photos and texting. Subsequently, I only need to charge my phone every ten days or so.
my phone uses a 100W charger and the battery is 5500MAH, twice that of these power banks. Not only would these not fully charge my battery, they’d die before my normal charger would fully charge the battery from 10-100%
@ItalianScallion@yakkoTDI Grrr. I’ll see if t they’re some way to free it up. It probably wouldn’t apply to you, yakko, since you’re caffeine resistant.
@Kyeh@yakkoTDI I have heard of caffeine naps and I actually had read the article you pointed me to Kyeh. I haven’t tried that because I like my one- to two-hour naps!
@ItalianScallion@Kyeh@yakkoTDI Hmm, maybe I am unusually sensitive to caffeine or maybe it’s just expectation, but I usually start feeling the effects of coffee before I even finish a cup. I think it would be very difficult for me to nap right after.
@ItalianScallion@Kyeh@macromeh@yakkoTDI
The caffeine may not wake me but having to pee certainly will.
I’m the kind of guy that could easily fall asleep with a hot cup o joe in my hand and burn myself as a consequence. BTW, that would probably wake my ass as well.
I hadn’t had any problems with keeping my phone charged and doing it while trying to get the longest life out of my battery! (Before I knew… I once kept a phone plugged into the charger 24/7 and I learned REAL QUICK not to do that again!)
Then, after reading THIS thread my phone has died twice in the past 4 days! Now isn’t that crazy!
Plug it in if I think it needs it.

@werehatrack

Head over to my trusty refrigerator, open the door and…
/showme refrigerator overflowing with happy, chilly batteries
@mediocrebot Ok bot. That’s either some giant-ass batteries, or a tiny-ass fridge…

@brennyn Oh oh. Would somebody kindly explain it to @brennyn…?
@shahnm Giant ass-batteries?
@brennyn @shahnm
https://xkcd.com/37/
@brennyn Yeah. They’ve been powering me for years…
I am never far away from a USB port and always carry a charging cable. I learned to always be prepared.

@mycya4me

Well there is nothing passive aggressive there now is there…
Lol…
@Lynnerizer Nope… why?
Always
Be
Charging
@Salanth Glen Gary Glen Watts
Keep a magnetic charger in the car and bedside to keep charging while driving and sleeping.
@texmarc2 …just don’t try driving and sleeping at the same time! I tried it (not intentionally) … don’t recommend.
I have chargers everywhere! Including two small ones that I likely bought here which get rotated in and out of my purse.
@cbatte yeah, the moment my phone gets to ~30%, I start charging it

@accelerator @pmarin With the way Meh sells fans you can always buy a new Boss.

@ItalianScallion Have you heard about this?

Seems like it would be right up your alley!

@ItalianScallion @Kyeh The link says it needs $4 a month to read.

@ItalianScallion @yakkoTDI Here’s the story a site that wants to sell you something, but it’s got all the same information as the Nat Geo article. https://www.sleepfoundation.org/sleep-hygiene/coffee-nap
@ItalianScallion @yakkoTDI
“…ON a site…”
Ugh, I see I had typos in the previous reply too. I’m hurrying, sorry.
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI I have heard of caffeine naps and I actually had read the article you pointed me to Kyeh. I haven’t tried that because I like my one- to two-hour naps!
@ItalianScallion @yakkoTDI Oh, okay - the caffeine would shorten them up, I guess.
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI It certainly would shorten a nap. It’s a pretty clever way to do that: sleep until the caffeine kicks in and wakes you up.
@ItalianScallion @yakkoTDI That could be useful sometimes!
@ItalianScallion @Kyeh @yakkoTDI Hmm, maybe I am unusually sensitive to caffeine or maybe it’s just expectation, but I usually start feeling the effects of coffee before I even finish a cup. I think it would be very difficult for me to nap right after.
@ItalianScallion @macromeh @yakkoTDI I think I’d have to be very sleepy and drink the coffee very fast or I’d have the same result.
@ItalianScallion @Kyeh @macromeh @yakkoTDI
