I hosted the family last year. This year, it will be either just my hubby and me, or we may be joined by a couple that he works with who just moved close by. Either way, I’ll be cooking a big fuckin’ turkey because we like the leftovers and so do our chickens.
@Pony I’m not personally offended or anything, but I think using “f’n” instead of the whole word spelled out is funnier and maybe even more effective, and less offensive to those who might otherwise take offense.
@ilona39 I don’t personally use cuss words much unless I’m really mad! Because I feel like - if you throw them in casually all the time, what do you say when you’re genuinely angry? But I don’t care if other people use them, and on here it’s practically de rigueur.
@brennyn
None of your friends or relatives do anything for Thanksgiving…
My friend jumped off a bridge, I didn’t follow! Jus sayen!
So it’s A PERFECT time and reason for YOU to start new traditions! Thanksgiving is a WONDERFUL time, there’s nothing like hanging out with friends and family stuffing your face into oblivion, playing (depending on age and bravery ) and then watching football on TV, movies, playing games, whatever floats your boat! And if you do it right you’ll have leftovers for a week! Ha!
@brennyn@Lynnerizer She was not trying to do so, but my partner of twenty years died on T-day in 2018. Since then, the day has not been one that I have chosen to acknowledge, though at this point I’d probably enjoy getting invited over to a friend’s place. I’m definitely not going to burn a bird myself, though.
@brennyn@werehatrack
Oh no, I’m so sorry. I can understand how rough thanksgiving has been for you since your partner passed, and that it happened on that specific day… Ugh Now that some time has gone by I’m glad you’re ready to at least celebrate with friends.
Yesterday was my dad’s birthday, he passed in 2022 so I spent the day with him on my mind a little more than usual. I thank God everyday for the blessings I have and my dad is at the top of my list! I’m also so grateful for the fact that I have my memories of my life with him in it. I miss him SO MUCH, IDK if I’ll ever stop grieving.
“Grief is the price we pay for love.” Those words by Queen Elizabeth II have become a favorite since ironically my dad passed away just a few hours later on the same day as her in 2022. He’d get such a kick out of that!
In the end, it’s a price I’m willing to pay for the time we had together.
@Lynnerizer I’m sure I’ve posted it here before, but not long after Lee died, I penned this variation of the Litany Against Fear which was on a popular wall poster back in the '70s:
I will not deny grief; denial is the soul-killer. Denial of grief is a denial of love; I will embrace my grief, and in time it will flow past me and through me. And when the grief is gone, all that will remain is the love that no longer has a place to go - and I will cherish it, because it is what I have left.
I will not say that the grief is entirely gone, but it’s no longer dominant.
It’ll be at my house but my girls will do the cooking and the boys will wash the dishes. Pops and me will direct them. Pops keeps the boys in check before dinner. I h.elp a little with directing cooking. Pops does the shopping using my list (though I could get FREE delivery!) Makes him feel needed. Pops and I make the pies a couple of days before; he’s getting pretty good at it!
We gather at my mother’s because she has the nicest space, but we kids are responsible for all the cooking & serving & clean up. At her advanced age we’re just lucky if she wants to eat.
Although she usually does try a little of everything.
The young family who still has the energy and stamina to cook a turkey. The rest of us seniors just tell old war stories of our cooking days. Extended family bonding at its best.
This year I have an elk tag for a season that runs through Thanksgiving. If I’ve filled my tag before Thursday I’ll probably spatchcock a bird, if the tag is unfilled I’ll be “out there” trying to fill it.
Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holidays, there’s nothing better than hanging with family! Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get around very well the last few years. My sister now hosts instead of my mom and the guest list isn’t as large as it once was. My mom will take requests for my favorite foods and she’ll make them and deliver them! She’s STILL the BEST COOK EVER! We, as in my guy, might make a small turkey, I’m not a huge meat eater. The best part, I’ll be enjoying the day with my BF of 35 years!
Son and daughter in law
The restaurant.
Sister in law
My nephew and his wife. That been my go-to for years.

@Pony @ilona39–you don’t know the history of that word here on Meh, I guess. Like this thread: https://meh.com/forum/topics/fun-fact
@ilona39 You’re on a site that uses the word in their product writeups. I mean… yeah. They can take our money, but they can never take… our fucks!
@ilona39 @Pony
“They can never take… our fucks!”
That’s right!
Especially when you don’t give any! Lol

Nonchalant is the way to go…
Jus sayen!
@ilona39 @Lynnerizer @Pony
Ooo, very good!

@Kyeh @Pony okay, apparently I wasn’t in with the f’n in crowd. I guess i don’t open the Meh mail every f’n day. I still prefer MY spelling. Laaaaaa

@Kyeh that’s exactly why f’n is the perfect word when your not really that angry! Great explanation.
@ilona39 @Kyeh
Stop fishing for an invitation.

Yet TBD

As usual, you guys are late with the Thanksgiving, eh?

@un4gvn1
Good hunting!
No plans.
@gjrupert
It’s still early… You’ve got time to figure it out!
@gr8mick1
THAT sounds great!

ENJOY!
@Lynnerizer usually a fun time, got 14 last year looking like 8-10 this year. Totally worth it if you have some transplant friends.
@gr8mick1 I love that so much!
@gr8mick1 @Kyeh
We did Thanksgiving dinner in a bar in Destin years ago. It was a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity and was a BLAST!

If by “host” you mean stay home and in my pj’s without the stress of a giant family get-together, then sure, we’re hosting.
Geez you would think a Mehrathon would go all weekend! Working stiffs need time!
Headed to Nashville to the daughter and SIL’s house. Gonna be a vegan holiday… but I’ll manage, I’m sure.
