The outfit and her ability to lipsynch a tape allowed her to win the “Best Presentation” award in the masquerade at the '95 Worldcon in Glasgow, in the adult division, at the age of 6. (The schtick ended with her clicking her heels together and saying “There’s no place like home” twice, looking frustrated, taking off a shoe, looking inside, saying “Made in China! No wonder these don’t work. Come on, Toto, let’s go find somebody else to drop a house on.”)

Love the color. I use to get my nails done (fake nails) like clock work every two weeks and then when I took them off it was the greatest relief bc I felt like I had so much more time and didn’t have to sit in the salon to get them done. My nails grow pretty well on their own and I shape them myself. Todays not the greatest pic but usually their shaped pretty well.

Then they started getting brittle, and I had problems with them breaking, until I got the scryliccs. These aren’t really as tough as my old natural ones were, but they’re closer than what’s under the shell now, and that’s a relief. Plus, flashy color, woohoo!

I get my nails from my dad and my grandpa. My dad had the thickest most beautiful nails ever (I would take care of them), nails women would die for. In a month they would grow so long and they were so strong, sometimes it would take all my strength just to cut them. We also have this trait all three of us get little ridges in our nails. I’m the only one out of my siblings or my family that has the nails like them.
I’m very matchy matchy, so if I go out, everything needs to match to some extent – tops, bottoms, accessories, shoes. For example, I found a pair of Skechers I liked, so I bought them in several colors to ensure a better match to my clothes. I’m such a weirdo.

Several years ago, I bought a pair of shoes from an online discount site. They were an ankle-high lace-up boot originally designed for law enforcement manufactured by Danner. I have an old injury to my foot and need sturdy shoes and these turned out to be the absolutely most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned. So of course, when I went to replace them, neither that particular model nor anything very close was available. I’ve patched the old pair up a couple of times and, even pretty much worn out, they are still the most comfortable shoes I own.

Chances are it wont be there when you come back or at least not in your size. A normal footwear casepack only has 1 pr of sz 11 in the box. I would rather I purchase and maybe return later or donate than to pause and miss the opportunity.
So kinda like @kyeh if I’m just at home nothing. Even for work (wfh), my hair goes in a bun and I wear glasses. I rarely dress up, because my co workers have seen me looking my worst during covid, so who cares any more.
If I am leaving the house, hair perfectly coifed, make up fully done, and well dressed. I generally don’t wear t-shirts out of the house.
I love all the girly type things, so I have a professional steamer (the face kind not the floor kind) for weekly skin treatments, I wax myself vs paying someone, etc.
I figure if someone is going to judge me based on how I dress or do my hair or whatever that is their problem, not mine. There are, of course, minimum work standards for clothes that have varied depending on where I worked and so I honored those (and knew how to, and did, dress to dress codes perfectly). Out side of that I wear what I want when I want… if it doesn’t match or has holes too bad so sad. Get over it.

I feel you. My hair is thin enough that I can generally pat it in place with a bit of water on my hands and I’m good to go. My beard is slow growing enough that I can usually go about 10 days, but likewise, 3 minutes will generally do the trick! I also trim around the edges of my beard and the front of my chin somewhere in the middle of that time as well … in order to cut down on irritation for SWMBO.
People think I’m kind for donating my hair repeatedly. Truth is I simply can’t be bothered to get it cut until it’s annoying me. Don’t own a dress or make up. Tried the nail thing, it’s not for me.

@callow I’m the same way. I can’t style my hair to save my life, so I just keep growing it to donate. I just got 12 inches cut off that I need to send in. I wanted her to cut more like 16-18 inches, but she misunderstood. It’s still a decent amount.

Since I’m currently retired I don’t have a reason to even wear scrubs that much anymore. Living in the South I spend most of my time in swim trunks or shorts if I’m working outside,. A T-shirt and clogs complete the outfit. If I’m going somewhere like the store I will generally try and dress it up a notch (clean, intact, presentable jeans etc.). Most of my t-shirts either have a blood donor message or are from some vacation destination. While I do own some dress shirts, the vast majority of my button downs are tropical prints. I’m a beach bum/Jimmy Buffett fan at heart. However I am old school enough that when I fly I still get dressed in at least business casual. I find that most of the airline team respond well to that, and it makes me feel like I’m doing something ‘special’. I also still get “dressed up” to go to the theater if we go to a play etc. and while I own some suits (and even a tux) I rarely have occasion to wear them unless I’m going to a funeral or wedding.

My very favorite vacations are still the small boat barefoot cruises we’ve done around St Lucia, St Vincent, and the upcoming Martinique vacations.
Of course there are things…fussing about, positive. Fretting about, negative. I cannot even go through a drive-thru or drive anywhere without putting a bra on. I can go without make up for a quick trip to cvs or something but need sunglasses….yah the reflective kind. Thats about it. My mom was a ‘Zsa Zsa’ so some things she taught me just stuck. Other things are
I have the glasses where you can put different fonts on, and even if I’m just running out to Starbucks or to pick up a food order, I pick one that goes with my outfit or my mood. I only have 35 or so, but there are people who have hundreds; IDK how they’re able to wear them all.

I’m usually pretty meticulous about my hair being dyed and my eyebrows and upper lip (ever since my hysterectomy my upper lip hair comes in dark) being threaded but since my dad died I’ve been super depressed and anxious and even leaving the house is hard. So those things have kind of taken a back seat at the moment.

Although in a way the hurting is important because it tells you how much you cared and how much it mattered
I remember after certain losses being devastated afterwards and then after a couple of years as the pain of lost faded kind of being sorry that it went away because it meant I had come to terms with the loss and I was letting go of it
And that made me grieve lost again because it had been so acute and now it wouldn’t be anymore
And that’s just seemed to emphasize how big the loss was and how much I wanted it not to have happened
(The person who died was 40 years old, so it wasn’t a situation where one expected somebody to die because they were very very old)
I hope you do better overtime in your own way in your own time and I think it’s perfectly cool if you take some time to not be as put together or not be as efficient or not be as productive
This is all part of grieving and grieving has a huge physical component. If the loss is a big one it hit your body as well as your mind.
I mostly do the minimum past basic hygeine and wear what I like. Going out to do errands, I put some thought and effort into looking as unmemorable as possible. My objective is to have no one remember me at all, so if I were to, for example, end up in a police lineup, no one would identify me or remember ever seeing me near the scene anywhere.

I’m pretty tyrannical over oral health in general (yes that’s the adjective I’m going to choose) but I really go the distance on my incisors (front teeth), picking any residue between them (flossing those are also easier than flossing the back molars… Hence why all my fake teeth are the rear ones).
I have ADHD. I can’t pay attention to anything for that long.

I’m pretty tyrannical over oral health in general (yes that’s the adjective I’m going to choose) but I really go the distance on my incisors (front teeth), picking any residue between them (flossing those are also easier than flossing the back molars… Hence why all my fake teeth are the rear ones).
