@PooltoyWolf I just checked Amazon and both the membrane filter and the charcoal capsules are available. However, the lid and filter were changed in 2023, and these bottles are of the older variety, so you just make sure that you buy the correct filter and capsules, which are here: https://a.co/d/0goxJfuO
@DocBJT@PooltoyWolf The microfilter is, essentially, lifetime - 3 years at a gallon/day. What you need it stock up on the carbon filters (1 per month at that same rate).
The last version of these I saw here was during a Mehrathon. Someone informed me they were a discontinued model so I cancelled my order. It would suck to not be able to get filters in a month. Probably worth checking on these.
You can still order filters for these older bottles from Amazon, but make sure they’re for the older model (pre-2023). I’ve had mine for years. They do work. Wife and I used them through Mexico, the Sierras, and hiking across England. Filled them from streams, lakes, bathroom sinks, water fountains, never had a problem. This deal is cheaper than buying two replacement filter sets by themselves, but then I’d also have an excess of plastic bottles.
If I mistakenly put some of those terrible electrolyte tablets y’all sold in water, could I potentially filter out that nasty flavor and extract pure water by drinking this through contraption, or should I just pour that fetid bilge in my dog’s water bowl as punishment?

@chienfou@Kyeh
I provide my dog with large bowls of fresh water daily (inside and outside the house). It is the same clear fresh well water that we humans drink. Yet he will walk past the water dish and drink from the toilet or a mud puddle.
Dogs…
@chienfou@Kyeh@macromeh Cats will drink from the toilet too. Mine are indoor only so I don’t know about puddles with them. If thirsty enough I’d imagine they would.
For those of you who have used these, how is the draw (suction) on these? I was considering these or the Pods that always pop up here, but the reviews were mixed on the draw and these hold more water.
@irenegade The draw is only a little harder than an unfiltered Camelback bottle with the current squeeze spout, and about the same as the previous generation Camelback bottle.
@Trogdor248 The thickness and quality of the plastic, Ai states the Triton is more durable for wilderness/outdoor treks. I’m not sure if it shares the same leakage concerns.

Okay but if you are hiking in the woods for days, these much more expensive things are the proverbial bomb. Collapsible bottles == awesome.
This is a really good lifestraw price though. I’m intrigued.

POPSOCKETS! COURT DOCKETS! FOLK ROCK HITS! AWESOME!
@stinks badlink is bad. sends me to d/l the REI App. I removed the “mobile.” in front, still badlink.
@G1 Argh I actually tested it when I posted and it worked. But you’re right. Busted now.

Are replacement filters for these bottles readily available, especially the carbon filter?

@DocBJT Thank you!
Can these filter the meh out of the mehndane comments (this one included)?
I can’t eat this. I wouldn’t mind some ramen, meh. Just saying.
Is 99.999% enough? https://xkcd.com/1161/
@ergomeh Ewww is right. At least they’re not refurbs.

@tweezak I replied to @PoolToyWolf with a link to the correct filter and capsules on Amazon. Check it out.
you can pee into one of these and never have to buy a drink ever again. big beverage doesn’t want you to know about this.

What happens if I fill my LifeStraw with Liquid Death? Asking for a friend.
@shanesny Cancels out. just Liquid Meh left
Seems more cost efficient to stock up on these bottles than pick up replacement filters later if the filter prices stay where they’re at

@eagle80 Could come in handy if you decide to go all “Howard Hughes”.

Note to self… Dumb down the prompts…
@chienfou I like the scowl on the dog’s face.

That was my wife complaint about some her sister gave her…

FYI MorningSave has the LIfestraw Titans at 2/$40
@irenegade What’s the difference between the two, I can’t tell

But what happens if you try to sip a margarita through it?
@user17043735 You will probably filter out the fun.
Got some summer trips coming up, so sure.
