If you really hate bamboo or trees in general then accelerate that deforestation and run some “AI” prompts. The best part is that it doesn’t matter if it’s text or visual, it’ll wreck the environment just the same.
@DrunkCat in a world of global warming and deforestation, bamboo would actually be a winner… more room for it to spread and take over. It is an opportunistic species that takes advantage of disrupted biomes.
@irenegade@lonocat it could well be because postage went up and if you just do flat postage, you have to work the cost of the rest of the postage into the price.
This does seem like a niche a whole lot of recently fired NASA and similarly science-focused government employees could fill a teensy bit better.
"Not here, though. We gave our copywriter a fistful of bills from the petty cash coffee can in the breakroom, a link to a comparable Amazon listing, and a crude doodle explaining how a pillow works.
i bought these the last time I saw them on Meh… They are NOT queen size… the packaging says they are “standard/queen” size. The two pillows have different levels of generic soft fiber filling… one too full/firm, one too soft for me. Just tonight I cut a slit in the firm one and removed several handsful of fiberfill. Now it is adjustable. I will work on it until it works for me.
@jlrmeh I have a dog that has made several of my pillows adjustable in this fashion. On one she even kickstarted the adjustment period. Would you like to borrow her? She is wearing out her welcome around my pillows.
@jlrmeh@melliott hehehe, i resemble that remark! two 80-lb golden retrievers that are neither. they are cream color and won’t bring back a dang thing, even the pillows that are now out in the back yard
@jlrmeh@melliott@pskemp2
Be careful what you wish for. I’ve got a black flat coat retriever, (a black golden-her daddy is a golden, but she’s jet black), and she lives to fetch.
She exhausts us with her fetching skills, non stop. She’ll plop her ball anywhere my attention is. Vacuuming? Here’s a ball! Cooking a meal? Take a ball, right by your foot! I’ma break a hip.
@Barney Yeah, I got those. I thought “sweet deal” I had bought some great bamboo pillows from online and was excited to bet some for cheap from Meh… and they ended up being terrible.
@Barney@pakopako I don’t think the filling is bamboo. The case is bamboo. Advantages of bamboo is that moisture wicks right through it and it is also antimicrobial… So there are advantages to a bamboo case.
The filling on mine (both the good and the bad) is memory foam. The flat rolls of memory foam is crap. The ones where it so shredded memory foam is better. (Especially as they’re designed so you can add/remove as much as you like to fit your needs hard/soft). You can fluff the shredded memory foam you can’t the flat rolls of memory foam.
@OnionSoup It’s “bamboo” to the same extent that aluminosilicate glass is “transparent aluminum”. Yes, bamboo is the feed stock. No, there is absolutely nothing of the verifiably bamboo nature in the finished product.
I will note that retting high-quality long-staple bamboo fiber and converting it to a weavable or knittable yarn is technically possible, but subjecting even crap-quality bamboo to the chemical conversion process to make viscose (think “rayon”) produces an acceptable product for a much lower cost. One is bamboo, the other is just marketed using the word.
@omally FWIW, “Lucky bamboo” isn’t. It’s a variety of Dracena. That’s what makes it “Lucky”, nobody tries to harvest it to use as feed stock for viscose fiber. (Although they could; anything cellulose will serve.) So you’re actually 100% correct about these being made from “unlucky bamboo.”
Apologies if I spoiled anybody’s appreciation of the pretty decent joke.
Gel fiber, as in Metamucil? Just add water and the pillow gels up? I prefer oobleck pillows myself, but maybe a Metamucil pillow is just the thing that has been missing in my life.
@dahobbs9 Some reviews on morningsave, amazon, etc. all say they aren’t all that thick.One person said they were great when placed on top of another pillow.They otherwise seem to have 4ish stars though.
@dahobbs9@Kidsandliz I got these the last time Meh had them, and they’re super thin - way too thin/flat. I like a soft pillow, which they are, but so thin & flat they’re not usable. Maybe if you doubled it over or better yet, don’t buy them to avoid the feeling of being ripped off.
I got some different “Plush Cooling Gel Fiber Pillows” from a previous deal. They’re good pillows, but they don’t seem to stay cooler than a normal pillow. Thanks, thermodynamics.
I got these the last time they were offered (king-sized) and I love them! They’ve held their shape better than other pillows I’ve owned and I really do feel a difference with the cooling. Best part? I got two sets and my wife didn’t want to try them, so I have a spares for when they do need to be replaced!
@ndimitru anytime you see a “bamboo” fabric product, what’s really happening is they chemically cook it down into cellulose and viscose and extrude it like any synthetic fabric. Most of the time it’s done using a cheap process that uses a lot of gross chemicals and which is bad for the environment.
Bottom line, the main thing the word “bamboo” is doing in the product name is to make you think about green sustainable plants instead of synthetic industrial processes.
@ndimitru@winfield And viscose can also be made from hemp or a large number of other easily-retted cellulose fiber sources. It’s just that SE Asia and the islands to the south are perfect for growing bamboo, and some types reach harvestable size really fast.
For what it’s worth, I got two Nolah Adjustable Shredded Foam pillows when I purchased a mattress, and they’re the best I’ve tried by a wide margin. I use one and put the other on my guest bed, and two people have raved about it before buying their own. It has a built-in zipper for fill adjustment.
Of course, a queen size is $90 on sale, so definitely not an impulse buy.

Mmmmmmmm…gelly.
I want a Zen garden pillow.
Although I’d probably get sand in my hair
@OnionSoup that sounds about right!! Sand between my toes on the Beach sounds about right.but not in the hair!
Mmmmmmmmmmm…bamboo.
If you really hate bamboo or trees in general then accelerate that deforestation and run some “AI” prompts. The best part is that it doesn’t matter if it’s text or visual, it’ll wreck the environment just the same.
/showme lame
@DrunkCat Bamboo is a grass not trees. You should ask AI for help.
@haydesigner Agreed, it is lame.
@yakkoTDI Is that how you learned the linguistic difference between ‘or’ and ‘and’?
/showme burning bamboo forests to generate power for ai server farm
@DrunkCat I am quite aware of the difference between and and or. I just wasn’t sure if you knew the difference between grass and trees.
@yakkoTDI Sure you did.
@DrunkCat in a world of global warming and deforestation, bamboo would actually be a winner… more room for it to spread and take over. It is an opportunistic species that takes advantage of disrupted biomes.
Bamboo stands to gain from all this.
@OnionSoup Damn, you got me sold.
@DrunkCat
No, I did not know if you knew the difference between grass and trees. That is why I provided you the information that bamboo is grass and not a tree.
@yakkoTDI If you say so.
And the cover is made of, ???
@rjquillin
People
@rjquillin @thechilipepper0 In for three!!
@lonocat Is that cat still asleep from last October when meh sold these last?
https://meh.com/forum/topics/2-pack-zen-bamboo-plush-cooling-gel-fiber-pillows
@Kidsandliz @lonocat and I se the earlier offer was $3 lower!
@irenegade @lonocat it could well be because postage went up and if you just do flat postage, you have to work the cost of the rest of the postage into the price.
/showme ai planting trees and growing bamboo so we can have lots of pillows
@mediocrebot kinda/sorta?
Hm. On the write-up:
“We have no idea how you take bamboo and make it into a pillow.”
It seems fairly obvious that solid organic structures are generally made of organized, tightly compressed fibers. Wood, bamboo, hair, whatever.
Want to make it fluffy? Just disorganize/ shred it.
/showme a pillow made of brainmist’s hair
@mediocrebot I’m fucking dead hahahahahahaha

@haydesigner LOL, not long enough, and far too organized. But I have started felting hair dolls. Maybe I should assign one to you?

I hope these pillows are a lot better than the unfluffable bamboo (imagine a large brick) ones that Meh sold eight or nine years ago.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Damn, this is going to be my fault if these are awful.
@Barney Yeah, I got those. I thought “sweet deal” I had bought some great bamboo pillows from online and was excited to bet some for cheap from Meh… and they ended up being terrible.
@Barney @OnionSoup there’s fluffable bamboo/reyon?

Petroleum products breathe deep meh
buyer beware, the bamboo they use for these pillows is unlucky bamboo, which is a much cheaper material than lucky bamboo, for obvious reasons.

Neither here or on amazon does it say that the Thick is
@dahobbs9 Some reviews on morningsave, amazon, etc. all say they aren’t all that thick.One person said they were great when placed on top of another pillow.They otherwise seem to have 4ish stars though.

@dahobbs9 if you’re the person that needs a thick pillow for comfort or support, get a down/filled pillow.
I can’t believe someone hasn’t said it yet, “I think I’ll sleep on this deal”.
That being said, I own a lot of pillows trying to find one that works for me.
@Kidsandliz you’re hired.
@jouest When do I start? Is the pay whatever is being sold that day?
@jouest @Kidsandliz They pay in IRKs. It’s kind of a negative salary.
I got some different “Plush Cooling Gel Fiber Pillows” from a previous deal. They’re good pillows, but they don’t seem to stay cooler than a normal pillow. Thanks, thermodynamics.
These are not these -> 2-pack-sleep-restoration-1800-series-plush-cooling-gel-fiber-pillows? I liked those.

are these the " really polyester with a tiny bit of bamboo" pillows?

My cat’s breath smells like cat food
@posmr15 Sounds like your cat is sharing your pillow.
@Kyeh @posmr15 It is the cat’s pillow. They own everything.
@posmr15 @yakkoTDI Oh, right - I forgot.
