So we have a planet with accelerating global warming over a planet, which is presumably globe-shaped, with accelerating global warming. You’re going too meta for me, @mediocrebot.
@RCFlyer@yakkoTDI When I get the good little pints (which are now shrunk to 12-14oz!) I will usually eat around the edges where it starts to melt first. It’s the best! Not fully melted, though.
If I can control myself, after a few minutes I put the still-frozen core into the freezer to fight another day.
@phendrick
It looks so easy! Have you ever made ice cream this way before?
I’ve got one of these cups for slushes, I think it’s the same thing as what you’re calling a slurpy. https://a.co/d/058aIuc
This is probably the most dumbest eating related product I’ve ever seen. I’d say dumbest product ever, but there were those bracelets with magic hologram stickers a few years back
@Superllama7 Beat me to it. Dumbest. Product. Ever. Maybe just stick a couple (normal-sized) ceramic bowls in the freezer for 10 minutes, then put ice cream in them? Jeeze Louise…
Something’s in the air… maybe it’s just springtime. 🪻
Earlier today I bought yet ANOTHER ice cream maker (for the gift bin) only because I couldn’t pass on the great deal! ($7 Woot off) That makes either 2 or 3, brand new, unused, and STILL in the box. (NOPE, NO shopping addiction here, NOT ME! ) Lol
These sure would be great to go with, especially if I used my $10 coupon!
@Lynnerizer@pmarin i have one of the Cuisinart. Standard freezer bowl. Used once.
I can’t even begin to fathom who eats a single bowl of ice cream this slow to warrant this level of stupidity… I guess that’s why they are here… But I prefer to think they would think we are smarter than this.
@Lynnerizer@pmarin@unksol I agree about ice cream but they do seem like pretty neat and useful for keeping chilled dips/dishes cool longer for gatherings and such.
@Lynnerizer@pmarin@scilynt I don’t necessarily disagree but the original vender chose to market them this way. And either way it’s pretty niche.
At least with the glasses that do the same thing the pitch is you don’t have to water down the drink you’re sipping on. What communal dip can you think of that would need to be kept cold in this size bowl though? I can’t think of one
@Lynnerizer@scilynt@unksol I would think these would be good for gazpacho. A dish best served cold. Like revenge.
/image Ricardo Montalban dish best served cold
@Lynnerizer@pmarin@scilynt@unksol if you want a chilled bowl, put a pair of steel mixing bowls in the freezer; when you take them out, fill one with ice and stack the 2nd on top.
At best, this might make a decent whipped cream bowl (which, if you’re pedantic about making fresh whipped creme, means you’re using a frozen bowl, a frozen whisk, while sitting inside a walk in freezer).
“The fridge in Randy’s apartment has louvers in the back where the cold air is blown in, straight from the freon coils. Randy always stores his milk-pods directly in front of those louvers. Not too close, or else the pods will block the flow of air, and not too far away either. The cold air becomes visible as it rushes in and condenses moisture, so it is a simple matter to sit there with the fridge door open and observe its flow characteristics, like an engineer testing an experimental minivan in a River Rouge wind tunnel. What Randy would like to see, ideally, is the whole milk-pod enveloped in an even, jacketlike flow to produce better heat exchange through the multilayered plastic-and-foil skin of the milk-pod. He would like the milk to be so cold that when he reaches in and grabs it, he feels the flexible, squishy pod stiffen between his fingers as ice crystals spring into existence, summoned out of nowhere simply by the disturbance of being squished.”
@lehigh and this “Randy has worked out a set of mental blueprints for a special cereal-eating spoon that will have a tube running down the handle and a little pump for the milk, so that you can spoon dry cereal up out of a bowl, hit a button with your thumb, and squirt milk into the bowl of the spoon even as you are introducing it into your mouth.”
@Joedetroit@lehigh@user80842469 I’m intrigued and not familiar with this material (though know the names). I usually only get to books by Audible on long drives. What should I look for to get started?
@Joedetroit@lehigh@pmarin CRYPTONOMICON might be my all-time favorite. It would be a long listen. RED TEAM BLUES is the first book in the Marty Hench series and a lot of fun, plus you’ll learn a lot.
I recently discovered that ice cream pints (or whatever pint-adjacent shrinkage is left of your preferred brand) fit right into a double-wall coffee mug. These might have tempted me otherwise
I’m in for a set, but am I the only one who thinks this should have been for sale on 4/20? Hmmm…Snacky type assister on a day that MANY would think about snacking for some reason, selling four for $20…Maybe it was just too obvious?
/showme vast-moody-mass
I use these all the time but 2 of them cracked and had to be thrown out, possibly because I have my freezer set to -5 F. I do get a lot of use from them and will probably be buying more. Not sure about freeze bowls. I don’t (or shouldn’t!!) eat ice cream that often and would never let it melt!
There was an article in The Atlantic (I think that’s where I saw it) a year or so ago that revealed that some of the same studies showing yogurt is healthy showed the same for ice cream. The authors and others in the field just couldn’t believe the part about ice cream could be true, so they just didn’t mention that in public discussions.
tl;dr Eat the ice cream!
These would actually be a good complement to my smoothie bowl blender. Even made with frozen fruit and minimal liquid it’s just a few minutes between soft serve consistency and soupy fruit.
I’ve tried products like this before and had awful experiences. Fragile, gel leaks out, a pain to clean and store, of debatable utility… easy Meh button

Freeze bowels? Yesterday’s product can help with that.
You’re gonna need a lot of these after “AI” helps accelerate global warming with each decommissioned coal plant it brings back online.
@DrunkCat I see that they still have you in decommissioned status. Don’t worry, there is still time for you to impress them.
@DrunkCat /showme accelerated global warming
@DrunkCat @rpstrong Think it has to be on a separate line. Or maybe the server overheated and shut down due to accelerated global warming.
@DrunkCat @pmarin Right you are; I forgot that the addressees were on the first line.

@mediocrebot I think there be dragons in there.
So we have a planet with accelerating global warming over a planet, which is presumably globe-shaped, with accelerating global warming. You’re going too meta for me, @mediocrebot.
Who allows the ice cream enough time to melt before they eat it?
@RCFlyer I do sometimes because I want it melty.

Probably can make some decent icees (slurpees?) in these also.
@phendrick ima try this recipe for these:

@phendrick FYI: Adult Icees are called “Margaritas”…#JustSayin
it’s a self chilling wide mouthed margarita glass you can also use for ice cream.
salted rim optional.
@alacrity
That’s what she said.
@yakkoTDI
No one will get this reference, but I might as well.

@Lynnerizer I stumbled upon (because it was on the floor in my house) an ice cream maker I must have bought last few years and no memory of buying it.
@Lynnerizer @pmarin i have one of the Cuisinart. Standard freezer bowl. Used once.

Made me think of this…

@lehigh cryptonomicon?
@lehigh @user80842469 Cory Doctorow’s The Bezzle according to a google search. Looks interesting but I’ve not read the book.
@Joedetroit @lehigh I read it last year and recall that passage now. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was intended as an homage to Neal Stephenson.
@user80842469 definitely Cryptonomicon, straight from my kindle app
@Joedetroit @user80842469 ha, looks like Doctorow was mentioning the Stephenson bit? https://maryrobinettekowal.com/journal/my-favorite-bit/my-favorite-bit-cory-doctorow-talks-about-the-bezzle/

These look perfect for my nightly bowl of vodka.
regular bowls can be pre-frozen in the freezer just fine!
This deal doesn’t bowl me over.
What kind of psychopath WANTS rock hard ice cream all the way down???
@Shagbert “I like my ice cream like I like my men: malleable”
@lehigh @Shagbert So you’re looking for an old softie?
@lehigh @pmarin @Shagbert rich sauce on top and only a little nuts on the side?
Time to put on some Roy Donk, maybe some Mookie Cramer and enjoy worry free gazpacho soup
@liquidplumr Where be your nutcracker?
If they were much larger, I bet they’d make for a super refreshing hat to wear while doing yardwork on a summer scorcher.
Someone needs to make a hat-shaped version of this, asap.
@steelopus I always liked having a cold compress under my hat while I was outdoors
I recently discovered that ice cream pints (or whatever pint-adjacent shrinkage is left of your preferred brand) fit right into a double-wall coffee mug. These might have tempted me otherwise
But the ice cream melting is a feature, not a bug.

Are they dishwasher safe?
@jbellis it says nope.
Reply hazy try again
/8ball are these freezer safe
@jbellis @pmarin So, def not freezer-to-oven friendly, I would guess.
Who has room in the freezer to freeze these?
@edsa i’m assuming they’re stackable, so wouldn’t take hardly any room

@dpease So that’s a “buy,” yes?
@pmarin correct I’m in for a dozen
JUST PUT YOUR NORMAL BOWLS IN THE FREEZER SERIOUSLY WHO TAKES 30 MINS TO EAT ICE CREAM OMG!
MEH IS GOING DOWN HILL
GIVE ME MY RBC FOR $5 AGAIN
The price comparison is invalid. Instead of buying 2 sets of 2 ay $30 each, you can just buy 4 for $40 ON THE SAME PAGE…
