@imma_cow@werehatrack Did you know that one AA battery has approximately the same capacity as three AAA batteries? The only reason to use 3x AAA instead of 1x AA is that you don’t need any drive circuitry. As a result, it is usually a safe bet that anything made today that uses 3x AAA is junk.
@Fen_Star@imma_cow@werehatrack kind-of like you say, most things want 3.5-5 volts. Getting that from a single alkaline battery means step-up circuitry, will be more expensive, and less efficient.
Things that use the Li-ion batteries work better because they put out 3.5-4V. So basically that’s why 3 AA or 3 AAA are so common. Some round flashlights, even cheap ones sold here, let you swap a round holder for 3 AAA with a single Li-ion battery.
This reminds me of that one emergency when I just desperately needed a hook, some magnets, and a swivel body! If only I had this convenient multi-tool the day would have been saved!
@macromeh@Perfect_Timing Bulk emergencies are not sorted or classed for quality, hoever, so you never know how many will be duds. And there’s zero assurance that any of them will be excellent, since periods of what amounts to widespread crop failures are historically common.
I wanted to know more, NEEDED to know more about this item before I parted with my money. I followed the Amazon link and was drawn to the video of the tool in action! I appreciate the effort in the plot and the accurate cinematography, but I can only give that video 3 out of 5 stars. They missed the money shot of of it actually breaking glass or even cutting a seatbelt. I understand the economy is unstable right now and no one wanted to smash their Bugatti to sell an over priced flashlight, but they could have snuck into a junkyard at night for some covert filming. Anyway, 3 out of 5 for the video BUT all hope is not lost. It was enough to push me over the edge into a purchase, that a little (too much) wine. The included gift boxes are a nice touch as well, as these are destined to be Christmas presents. I can’t be wrapping FOUR whatchamacallits - I have to preserve my energy for breaking some glass!
@valeriehouse13 I think you’ll be happy with these if they’re anything like the ones i have that are similar, except they don’t have the cutter or glass breaker. I have a pair that have the hook & the magnet, but this one also has a clamp-style option AND the safely features. Also, i don’t think mine have an emergency flashing mode, so if they’re decent quality, they should be well worth the price.
For anyone that has a burning need to see glass breaking &/or seatbelts ruined, scroll down past the alternate suggestions & take a look at the 3rd video:
You can never have too many little lights - my little lanterns came today to go with the 8 little puck lights I already have (both magnet and suction cup totally worthless, but the kids like them because they look like Iron Man’s power module), and I already have the earlier version @ircon96 describes above, so yeah, let’s get some more …

@russellmz Yes to both, the xenomorph was designed to be phallic. I would elaborate but it gets more into the “R” rated territory so I will leave that to Wikipedia.
These are just like the flashlights meh had back in the day with the addition of the seatbelt cutter and glass breaker. Honestly, they’re pretty great little lights. I take one to festivals with me, as the red light is preferred to not blind people when walking around in the dark. The magnets and clamp give you multiple options to put them somewhere when hitting a porta potty in the middle of the night.
@cinoclav yes! The flexibility of positioning is great for these. I keep them all over the house and one in each car.
And now they’re available in purple!
/giphy persuasive-eccentric-metal
I’ve got these before & IMO they are plenty good (for the price). I like having a mix of good and cheap stuff, regular battery and rechargeable, etc. I’d highly recommend replacing the free batteries with legit batteries, had to throw out one or two that exploded (admittedly after a pretty long time).
I do not like that the amazon comparison has been moved from the specs to the home page in something that looks like about 2 point type. At least you could have read that if it was above in the specs as that type size is readable. Having it in microscopic type on that page means I no longer read what is there. All that stuff on the home page, or at least the information about the product, should be in larger type so that people over 40 can have half a chance of being able to read it without having to enlarge the home page. This is one of the few home pages of a company I have to do that with.
@srubery I have some products that still work fine but I have to use them in a plastic bag or with something like Saran-wrap around them. Give me the good old-fashioned hard plastic. Or machined metal.
Just noticed, is it just a coincidence that your user name sounds like rubbery?
I got some of these in a Fukubukuro a long time ago. I have rechargeable AAs, otherwise no way these are worth it. Much better alternatives out there, even for this kind of money.
@dvermilion but these say AAA. And what’s really better for $5? (But I agree AAs in a light, preferably rechargeable, are much better than AAAs which cost the same or more, and store about 1/3 the power)
I wonder if anyone has ever actually used one of these window smashers or seatbelt blades to get out of a car. It just seems unlikely that you own one, have the specific emergency necessary that you need it, can find it, can reach it, and it works.
@wolper There is a small clip-on glass breaker and seatbelt cutter designed to be stored on a car’s sun visor which I find to be a much better idea. For one thing, it’s almost certain not to get appropriated for any other purpose, and therefore more likely to actually still be where it was placed should the need actually arise.

9 emergencies in 1? That sounds like a real disaster!!
@yakkoTDI I’m still trying to count the 9 in the 1
“AI” is the emergency auto for tools.
@DrunkCat Still no luck with them yet? Keep trying.
@DrunkCat Dude the pic this time isn’t even AI, it’s an edited MiB screenshot ffs
200 lumens and it’s not rechargeable?!?!? Amazing!!!
<Pukes> <needs Margherita>
@imma_cow
@imma_cow yUp don’t wanna buy No more batteries! Prefer to have battery(s) rechargeable with a USB cable.

Do these work with non-emergency cars, too?
A 4-pack of 9-in-1s… so that equals 36 emergencies?
@Perfect_Timing They’re cheaper when you buy in bulk.
@macromeh @Perfect_Timing Bulk emergencies are not sorted or classed for quality, hoever, so you never know how many will be duds. And there’s zero assurance that any of them will be excellent, since periods of what amounts to widespread crop failures are historically common.
And you light, break, cut, clamp, flash up my life.
A 4-pack? In purple?! How did you guys know the pit crew for my Grimace-sponsored car needed tire-changing lights?

@stolicat was that a xenomorph(alien) or weiner pie?
@russellmz Yes to both, the xenomorph was designed to be phallic. I would elaborate but it gets more into the “R” rated territory so I will leave that to Wikipedia.
@Fen_Star @russellmz I think they cut that shower scene in all the runs of the original Alien that I’ve come across recently.
KuoH
@mediocrebot That pie is beautiful
@stolicat Yup, that sure looks like chestburster pie to me.

@cinoclav But those came in Georgia Red!

@Commonwealth109 Shouldn’t be an issue, since this says it doesn’t come with batteries.
Still no!

@Kidsandliz you forgot “and get off my lawn!”
@spavlis hey you’ve got it all wrong. It’s get off my planet. There. Fixed it for you.
If it comes with the Neuralizer function, I’m in!

Something went terribly wrong. Please try again.
Fine.

This feels like a bunch of added features with no original product
@wbarton sometimes my whole life feels like that….
I got these a while ago, the ‘rubber’ has gotten sticky.
The rubberized grip will turn to a mysterious glue like substance in no time. It happens with flashlights glasses and other items.
@srubery I have some products that still work fine but I have to use them in a plastic bag or with something like Saran-wrap around them. Give me the good old-fashioned hard plastic. Or machined metal.

can this break a Tesla car window?
@dpease Sure. Just turn the flashlight on and shine it toward the window.

I still like these, despite the naysayers… And I just remembered I still had a $10 coupon code.
