Deconstructing the RECONECT Notebook
8I’ve noticed a lot us got these empty notebooks. The company seems to have gone dark. I’m not surprised at all as it seems this product was a solution looking for a problem. I mean, sure, I guess magnetic edged paper is neato and all…but who needs to keep rearranging their notes? Once you pull a sheet out, you still need to keep that loose page somewhere, just like dollar store paper or backs of envelopes what-have-you.
So I was fooling around and bent the spine back like this:

Then I stuck the metal bar, cover and all to my metal desk. I noticed then how powerful the magnets were so went I went to pull it off, the bar stayed behind and separated from the cover!
I gathered my research associates around and we inspected what was in the bar:

Head of Research, Ms. Snickers conferred with Chief Scientist, Mr. CC, and they concluded that they were a series of rare earth magnets interspersed with plastic separators.
I’m not sure what these magnets are good for, but I’ll probably use them as fridge magnets or something. They really are robust for their size. The notebook cover is still useful as it was before, One can use a binder clip to hold a pad of paper in it.
We have decided to share this information with the entire world, gratis, for the betterment of mankind, and of course, world peace in this holiday season.

These were decent “tablet purses” for something like say a Kindle Fire or other 7" device as the elastic would keep the book shut. The magnets are strong enough to keep my keyring attached to it.
They’re definitely some super stout magnets! I got the paper and was able to get my hands on some of the notebook covers from a fellow Mehtizen, so I’m going to use at least some of them as intended. But I bet those magnets would also help make a nice knife block.
Super cool! Thanks for doing this and sharing.
But, be superduper careful with these magnets around infants and small kids! And probably even nosy pets too. If swallowed, they can do major damage to internal organs.
TL:DR but I love the cats.
Those are highly atypical cylindrical magnets. Their poles are on opposite sides of the cylinder instead of opposite ends. I have no idea what I will use them for, but the tube produced seven of them.
Hmmm.
@werehatrack I got 8 magnets with 7 spacers…did you maybe lose a magnet?
I noticed that peculiar side polarity as well, I just didn’t know what to call it.
@therealjrn I reinspected the tube and found one more. Eight it is.
