Personally the original Dutch chocolate Whatchamacallits are still nostalgic. Though they don’t have Kudos any more, Quaker has a chocolate dipped granola bar that’s just as cavity-inducing.
@ergomeh I’ve never heard of that. Is it a chocolate bar, or does it really taste like violet? My grandmother used to buy violet candies that came in a tin and looked like purple Altoids.
@lisagd22 Explaining it would be like describing color to a goldfish. I’ll will say you can only discover it once… and then spend the rest of your life judging other candy bars for not being it.
Some good European chocolate. Or else the chocolate from that little place downtown that makes their own. But maybe that place in Pikes Market in Seattle that not only makes their own chocolate but roast their own cacao
Snickers and Doritos continue to be the best options in their category, which is why I’d probably be hooked on them and eat them every day if they were half the price.
They keep jacking up the prices or shrinking the packages until I have to say okay these things aren’t worth it now, but that’s okay, because it just gives sale KIND bars and other more cost-effective options the opportunity to shine.
@sillyheathen When I was in England in the early 80’s Cadbury caramel and creme eggs, and Lion bars were my favorites. When I returned years later Lion bars were a major disappointment. I’m not sure if me or they changed, but they’re not longer a favorite.
@blaineg@yakkoTDI Have you ever had a drifter? That’s like a kit kit with thin layers of caramel. It’s so good!
Double deckers are like a Charleston chew got lots of crunchy cookie pieces at the bottom.
Picnics are like a chocolate covered payday with raisins. I know those can be polarizing for some people. I have a friend that calls them grape scabs.
@blaineg@Kyeh@pakopako sorry. I didn’t read that brief. I just got excited when I saw starburst because they remind me of fruit pastilles! There are flying saucers in England that have sherbet inside.
@blaineg@Kyeh@pakopako oh I was a kid in a candy store when we went to the Haribo shop in Pontefract. They had so much pick and mix! Only things you could get in store. There were blackcurrant bottles which I think I bought a kilo of.
@blaineg@Kyeh@pakopako so do I! I wish it was more of a thing in the states. I actually have a half dozen blackcurrant shrubs but won’t really be able to focus on making them properly productive until next year or the following.
Also, if you have a Trader Joes, they have a sour halloween gummy mix and the purple ones are blackcurrant. We tasted them last night and were gobsmacked. We totally expected it to be grape.
@pakopako
Interestingly each of these missed at least one opportunity for an extra item. Good and plenty in the first one and Clark bar in the second one. Guess they just couldn’t find them…
@Kyeh@sillyheathen it’s the high scale version of our own Texas native HEB grocery store. Kinda like whole foods but not run by aging hippies wearing too much patchouli and Amazon.
Coffee Crisp.
Mr Goodbar
Payday
Are Reese’s a candy bar? If so, them.
ZERO!!
Baby Ruth

Three Musketeers for me, but Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (or whatever shape) for my wife.
Milky Way and/or 3 Musketeers.
Kit kats
@ragingredd all the kit kats! Even the weird Japanese ones
@ironcheftoni @ragingredd That’s my question too. How can anyone not like Corn Kit Kats?
@ragingredd @yakkoTDI I do like the Green Tea ones. A friend went to Japan and brought back wasabi kit kats. Those kinda scared me.
Kudos (just wanted to say that)
Personally the original Dutch chocolate Whatchamacallits are still nostalgic. Though they don’t have Kudos any more, Quaker has a chocolate dipped granola bar that’s just as cavity-inducing.
/image Whatchamacallit

Plain dark chocolate, Milky way-there are many that are best!
Used to be Butter Finger until Curtis sold out to Nestles, whom I try to avoid doing business with on GPs.
@phendrick Butterfinger is no longer a Nestle product (at least in North America).
@wyvern Thanks, I hadn’t been aware. Guess I’ll have to try them again to see if they taste as good as I recall.
Rocky Road or Three Musketeers.
Skor
Mounds & Almond Joy
Also
Violet Crumble by a margin…
@ergomeh In retrospect I agree and wish I had stated this as my answer.
@ergomeh @lisagd22 Oh, this is the solid halva. There’s variants throughout southeast Asia (from Australia).
@lisagd22 @pakopako not halva (although that would also be good). There’s a similar UK candy - Crunchie - but that’s milk chocolate.
@ergomeh @lisagd22 @pakopako It’s a kind of honeycomb candy - there are recipes for it online. It’s brittle and light and crunchy.
@Kyeh @lisagd22 @pakopako /showme inadequate adjectives
@Kyeh @lisagd22 @pakopako let’s try that again …
/showme inadequate adjectives
@ergomeh @Kyeh @lisagd22 @pakopako they sell it at World Market!
I love a Take 5, although I recently had a mini Heath and it was great (hadn’t seen on lately)
100 Grand
@earlyre Still mad that they changed the name.
Reese’s anything (if that’s a candy bar), or Whatchamacallit bars.
My fave is straight up dark chocolate. It’s hard to beat.

/giphy dark chocolate
@thedyom Is this straight enough?
@thedyom @yakkoTDI My personal fav (puts Reese’s to shame):

@thedyom @yakkoTDI Just mainline the cacao butter
@thedyom Yuck, I hate seeing kids with food all over their faces!
@Kyeh @thedyom I know! We taught our kids to hose down when they were done at the trough.

@macromeh @thedyom
I don’t think we were ever allowed to eat sloppily; my mother would NOT tolerate that.
These

@mrapathy made in Lufkin Texas!
@mrapathy sooooo good
@mrapathy I had one of those pull out a tooth as a youngster (replaced by a permanent one).
Some good European chocolate. Or else the chocolate from that little place downtown that makes their own. But maybe that place in Pikes Market in Seattle that not only makes their own chocolate but roast their own cacao
Probably a Kinder Bueno, but I don’t eat candy bars too often. I prefer fruity candies like fruit snacks or jelly beans for my sugar fix.

This discussion reminds me of a song from my one and only hip hop album. The relevant part starts at 1:00.
@lisagd22
I had to look up the lyrics, I couldn’t catch them in the song, but yes!
@Kyeh @lisagd22 That is a good album to have.
Lyrics because the sound quality on that video is potato.
https://genius.com/Utfo-hanging-out-lyrics
Also drifters and lion bars.
@sillyheathen When I was in England in the early 80’s Cadbury caramel and creme eggs, and Lion bars were my favorites. When I returned years later Lion bars were a major disappointment. I’m not sure if me or they changed, but they’re not longer a favorite.
Galaxy chocolate is wonderful.
@sillyheathen I love Lion bars!!
@sillyheathen @yakkoTDI For those that don’t know, a Lion Bar is kind of like a $100,000 bar with a KitKat stuffed into the center of it.
@blaineg @yakkoTDI Have you ever had a drifter? That’s like a kit kit with thin layers of caramel. It’s so good!
Double deckers are like a Charleston chew got lots of crunchy cookie pieces at the bottom.
Picnics are like a chocolate covered payday with raisins. I know those can be polarizing for some people. I have a friend that calls them grape scabs.
KitKat belongs in the trash.
@kittykat9180 Almond Joy? You must have been popular with the school kids around Halloween.
“Hey, Susie, I know this kid that will trade for your Almond Joys. No questions asked.”
@njfan kids didn’t talk to me in school. I was very unpopular because we were very poop.
@kittykat9180 @njfan ‘poop’?
@kittykat9180 @njfan @phendrick Are you saying you were the shit or that your family did not have a lot of income?
@njfan @phendrick @yakkoTDI
Poor*
@kittykat9180 @phendrick @yakkoTDI
/giphy awkward

@njfan @phendrick @yakkoTDI
It was elementary school, they probably called me poop. Kids are creative like that.
Milky Way on this side of the ocean, Mars on the other side.
@blaineg It seems fitting that a space travel enthusiast likes those two bars!

@blaineg @Kyeh Have they tried Galaxy chocolate bars? (Looks above; yes they have!)
@blaineg @pakopako
A hah! Of course!
Oh, and how about Starbursts?
@blaineg @Kyeh @pakopako fruit pastilles!!!
@blaineg @pakopako @sillyheathen But they’re not space related - although they do look a bit like tiny flying saucers?
@blaineg @Kyeh @pakopako sorry. I didn’t read that brief. I just got excited when I saw starburst because they remind me of fruit pastilles! There are flying saucers in England that have sherbet inside.
@blaineg @pakopako @sillyheathen Sherbet inside? So a frozen treat?
@blaineg @Kyeh @pakopako
Nope! It’s freeze dried and powdered. Kind of like pixie sticks but less sugar.
@blaineg @pakopako @sillyheathen
How cool!
@blaineg @Kyeh @pakopako they’re considered penny sweets. Big in the pick n mix shops in the jolly old engerland
@blaineg @pakopako @sillyheathen They still have them, huh? That kind of store, I mean.
@blaineg @Kyeh @pakopako oh yes indeed. Our kids were over the moon!
@blaineg @pakopako @sillyheathen I’ll bet! The adults might have been happy too, right?
@blaineg @Kyeh @pakopako oh I was a kid in a candy store when we went to the Haribo shop in Pontefract. They had so much pick and mix! Only things you could get in store. There were blackcurrant bottles which I think I bought a kilo of.
@blaineg @pakopako @sillyheathen Yumm! I love black currant.
@blaineg @Kyeh @pakopako so do I!
@blaineg @pakopako @sillyheathen Oh yum! Although currently (haha) I’m leery of gummies … see blame thread.
Twix. They pretty boring normally, but amazing if you put them in the freezer for a bit.
There’s a classy joke:

And a dirty joke:

@pakopako
Interestingly each of these missed at least one opportunity for an extra item. Good and plenty in the first one and Clark bar in the second one. Guess they just couldn’t find them…
Twix and reeces are a tie for me
@Star2236 I hear Reese’s are pretty good too.
/giphy grammar bunny

Speaking of chocolate, if anyone has a desire to make their from bean to bar. Spotted at central market, plano, tx
@ironcheftoni hopefully they aren’t expecting choclate as they know it when they open them up.

@ironcheftoni @sillyheathen That must be quite the grocery store!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen it’s the high scale version of our own Texas native HEB grocery store. Kinda like whole foods but not run by aging hippies wearing too much patchouli and Amazon.
@ironcheftoni @sillyheathen
Darned pseudo-hippies!
Lucky! Of course, Whole Foods started in Texas, too.
Snickers are the original energy bar.
Take 5 bar
Trader Joe’s pound plus milk chocolate bars!!! And I have no Trader Joe’s even remotely close to me.
@Kidsandliz They’ve gone up in price - they’re $7.50 now.
@Kyeh No worries. I will pay in monopoly money.
@Kidsandliz
Okay.
For creativity, I always thought Pez and their themed dispensers were pretty neat.
/showme a bunch of neat Pez dispensers dispensing Pez candies.
Something went terribly wrong. Please try again.
/image Pez Lord of the Rings

/image Pez Star Wars
/image Pez Star Trek
@phendrick I like the dispensers but you can have the candy.
Mounds and any other (higher quality) one that combines dark chocolate and coconut.
@ItalianScallion Have you had a Bounty bar? If not they come in milk or dark so pay attention to the label.
@yakkoTDI I might have had one a long time ago, but now I’m going to watch for them!
