Keyless Entry Door: Upgrade the electronic lock to enter the room without a key
Back-lit push buttons can clearly see the input keys in dark places, and the keypad lock will be displayed in different states
In order to protect your PIN from leakage, you can enter any random digit before and after real master PIN or user PIN
In order to protect your PIN from leakage, you can enter any random digit before and after real master PIN or user PIN
What problem does this solve exactly? Somebody can steal your “extended” PIN and that will open the door for them too. And they can make mistakes on the extra digits and it will still work.
I guess if you just have one PIN you use everywhere and you want to obfuscate it ever so slightly…?
@awk I’m guessing the idea is that you can randomly use different first and last digits thus evening out the wear on the buttons and making it harder to determine the PIN’s digits.
But yeah, not the greatest way to increase security
@awk They suggest here that only one digit can be entered, but other online sources demonstrate entering an arbitrary number of digits both before and after your code.
This could foil someone who is peeking over your shoulder and relying on memory to steal your code.
Don’t know about this one in particular, but i love the keyless entry locks. i put one on the shop, so no more walking out there and, “crap, forgot the keys again”.
The Schlage brand one i use isn’t motorized. It just engages a clutch and you turn the knob yourself. So it still works if there’s a little friction, and the battery lasts years.
@walarney Indeed, have used many of said Schlage locks, very convenient and the brand is reliable. Though we did have such a lock on an unheated warehouse unit and the clutch feature did not work when the 9v battery was cold in the depths of winter and well below zero. On that unit, even the key backup was [frustratingly] a little fussy. But overall would recommend and use these again.
I don’t want to rely on some battery-powered plastic no-name thing for all my exterior protection, but there are times it would be convenient to allow people to come in with a PIN. If I have a door with both deadbolt and in-knob key locks, it looks like maybe I could keep this unlocked most of the time and rely on the in-knob key lock, and then leave the knob unlocked and rely on this if I want to allow people to come in with a code-based entry (cleaners, cat-sitters, etc).
Many HOAs (mine included) require approval for any exterior changes. Be aware that if you live in a neighborhood governed by an HOA you may need to ask permission before installing something like this.
Can’t speak for this product specifically, but I have a keypad lock on my front door and it’s great. Highly recommended if you have teenagers who come and go on their own – no more worry about what if they lose their key. Also great for things like petsitters when you’re away, cleaners, etc., not having to make a ton of copies of your key.

Is this what has replaced the help?
@yakkoTDI If you’re buying stuff on Meh, I very much doubt you’ve ever had anyone dress you.

@baqui63 Ah that makes more sense. Seems like someone could just type extra digits without this feature though.

I’d be curious to see what the Lock Picking Lawyer would say about these… I searched and this is not a brand he has reviewed.
Is that what they are calling a rock through a window, nowadays?
Battery operated? So what happens if the batteries run out and you are locked outside?
@mehrrychristmas …you use the key.
There is a mistake in the specs above. It says Connectivity: WiFi.
That is not one of the flaws of this product.
All these locks… Meh is preparing us for something. Something bad is coming that they feel like we need to lock our doors for.
@OnionSoup And knives. And dried food.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
/showme angry penguins breaking down a door locked with a smart lock to attack the people within.
So any LEO or government official can just walk right in?

Apparently, the housing is plastic, so I wouldn’t use this on anything other than ultra-low security scenarios like keeping kids out of the dungeon.
@AROAH Interior housing is plastic with metal base; exterior is aluminum
