@PooltoyWolf
Not really. In my case, once you reach a certain age it becomes a lot less compelling. Plus the fact that we’ve been out of town over Christmas the last several years.
@chienfou@PooltoyWolf Keep in mind that “a certain age” will be different for everyone. For me, it was about 12. For others it will be 50, or 80, or anything else.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I a huge Collection of items to put out for Halloween because I’ve been printing them on my 3-D printer. And of course Christmas will be highly decorated. I’ll just add some 3-D stuff to the old traditional Christmas decorations we have. I should have some stuff for Thanksgiving too
@mycya4me
Very cool! Thanks so much for sharing them with us! The possibilities seem endless with one of those printers, you must have a lot of fun with it!
Are you able to paint them, and can you mix the colors during printing? How do you get the dragon to have those beautiful colors?
Yes they are Just beginning to have multi -color 3d printers, they, just like the 1st consumer single color printer are $$$, have lot of issues, Hey it is bleeding edge. I will wait till the tech grows up more!
as far as the Dragon goes, the PLA Filament I used is called Silk Rainbow, they have several different colors on the spool Like a red, orange, Yellow & green. The “Silk” makes it shinny.
I get most of my patterns / designs from sites like Kickstarter, my mini factory, Thingiverse & tinkered that lets you design your own. there are so many sites now!
Printing smaller/ shorter items that don’t use much filament you don’t get the color change. (Check out Ebay/ Amazon - PLA, 1k (2.2 lbs) 1.75 mm diameter to see all the Colors have access to, especially the Rainbow)
the one I have now is the Creality K1 (the company now has several upgraded models, so they want to get rid of the K1s (still new in the box- Not referferb. or Open box) A newer company an some advanced printer that the Geeky community is ditching their older Creality & other makes for the Bambu Labs one. They are “Eating” Creality’s lunch & stealing people from them.
@mycya4me
WOW those silk colors are amazing! I love how they look with the 3 colors together! How did you get into doing this 3D printing in the first place, was is for something specific?
I thought it was neat when I first heard of it several years ago but I didn’t really have a clue how I’d use it or what I’d make, so I never looked into getting one.
@Lynnerizer I will tell you the Cheapest way to get into this Wild craft. Well some libraries have created Maker spaces. My main library has one which you have several 3d printers & they will teach you how to use them! Also there are some cities that have a " Maker/ Hacker space that you can join & use ALL the tools/ devices. One I know of Has a couple 3D printer, Laser cutters, Wood shops, Pretty much any tool you might need, Learn to Code, Yes they hold classes & you are surrounded but a lot of Geeky Nerdy types, really a lot like the people that hang out here in the message bases! Just explore! Both the Libraries & Maker/ Hacker spaces are great places to hang out.
@Lynnerizer Now today it is easier to get into 3D printers that it was a few years back. You now have many different companies that have many different styles of 3d Printers. the 1st two was Ultimaker & Prusa Research a.s., company founded by Josef Prusa. Then Creality (where I got my start) Now you also have Bambu Labs.
They are now starting to do Multi color (several spools of different color). Still that tech is still in the Beginning stages (just like the single color printer were 5+ years ago) You need to be good with tools, Code, Hardware etc.
@Lynnerizer FYI I don’t do code either, I do have some simple Grade school type training to teach kids.
I have been a 2nd Level Computer Hardware tech. NOT remote support/ Help desk. Just a Geeky Nerd that their 1st modem was 300 baud acoustic modem. I like tinkering. As I said most of this stuff was not available when I was a kid in school. I am glad that maker/ hacker space are not available! that is the reason I suggested the Library & maker/ hacker space to learn, Work with 3d printers. Save you some money!
@Lynnerizer BTW I have been doing SciFi conventions for over 40 years. I got online before we have the “Internet” you dialed up private computer system.
@mycya4me
Oh wow that’s interesting! What exactly do you do at the conventions? I’ve never been to one but I picture a whole lot of costumes and 3D alien figures. Have you ever posted anything you’ve done here or anywhere else that’s available for us to see? I can’t imagine I’d be the only one interested.
@chienfou@macromeh@phendrick Nope Just at the Table or in the Den watching TV, But all I have on my spaghetti is Olive Oil. the other stuff is yucky to me!
@sillyheathen@xobzoo
THAT’S actually a fascinating back story. Seems one of the writers for Seinfeld had a father who created and celebrated that. Don’t remember his name off the top of my head but the writer brought it up to the show and it became one of their most enduring hits.
Usually Xmas but this will be my first year decorating outside of my house for Halloween. I’m just waiting for my boyfriend to the grass and he knows I’m waiting so he’s probably waiting bc he hates decorations (I do tend to go a little overboard). Last year I put them up and he took a quarter of them down.
@kittykat9180
Yeah, so I can set up the decorations on the lawn. We’ll still be mowing our grass still end of October depending on the weather and I don’t want to keep taking them down a bunch so he can do it.
@Star2236
If I’m understanding correctly, if you mow now and put them up, you’ll have to take them down in a couple weeks to mow again and put them back up.
Michaelmas.
Lotta humbugs in here so far!
@PooltoyWolf
Not really. In my case, once you reach a certain age it becomes a lot less compelling. Plus the fact that we’ve been out of town over Christmas the last several years.

Hence the lack of a specific number listed…
@chienfou @PooltoyWolf @xobzoo
That age for me was 18.
I a huge Collection of items to put out for Halloween because I’ve been printing them on my 3-D printer. And of course Christmas will be highly decorated. I’ll just add some 3-D stuff to the old traditional Christmas decorations we have. I should have some stuff for Thanksgiving too
@mycya4me

I know I’m interested, do we get to see what you’ve got?
@Lynnerizer
@Lynnerizer
@Lynnerizer I have a lot more I guess I will have to create a group picture. Easy when you have FAST 3d printer!
@mycya4me

Thanks so much for sharing them with us! The possibilities seem endless with one of those printers, you must have a lot of fun with it!

Very cool!
Are you able to paint them, and can you mix the colors during printing? How do you get the dragon to have those beautiful colors?
@Lynnerizer
Yes they are paintable.

Thanks for all the info, maybe I’ll be a creeper and see what I can learn. I don’t do codes or any of that stuff. Not yet anyway…
@Lynnerizer FYI I don’t do code either, I do have some simple Grade school type training to teach kids.

I decorate for the power company billing office.
@phendrick
That’s sweet of you…
@chienfou That’s probably because of the extra sugar in my coffee.
Besides, I think they need the money, from watching my rates go up regularly.
@phendrick I try to use as much Solar power as I can!
@mycya4me @phendrick
I’m very into passive solar… like my 30ft solar clothes dryer.
@chienfou @mycya4me …but I usually do my laundry at night, so…
@mycya4me @phendrick
Yeah, we all have our cross to bear…
@chienfou @phendrick I have one too! I mostly dry towels & Jeans (the heavy stuff) via solar! I have a 2 line dryer, PLUS I don’t live in a HOA/ Apt!
@chienfou @phendrick WOW you can use Passive Solar power drying… Amazing!
@mycya4me @phendrick
Putting clean sheets on the bed that are fresh off the line is one of life’s joys!
@chienfou @mycya4me @phendrick Certain activities that cause them to need laundering can be a lot of fun too! (IYKWIM
)
@chienfou @macromeh @mycya4me You enjoy eating spaghetti in bed too?
@phendrick
that’s a euphemism I didn’t know!!
@chienfou @macromeh @phendrick Nope Just at the Table or in the Den watching TV, But all I have on my spaghetti is Olive Oil. the other stuff is yucky to me!
Festivus.
@xobzoo for the rest of us!
@sillyheathen @xobzoo
THAT’S actually a fascinating back story. Seems one of the writers for Seinfeld had a father who created and celebrated that. Don’t remember his name off the top of my head but the writer brought it up to the show and it became one of their most enduring hits.
Needed more options… All the holidays!

Yup
@kittykat9180 @Star2236 Sounds like a LOT of work.
Halloween
I put a pumpkin on my porch.
I do 0 decorations for Christmas as I haven’t celebrated that since I turned 18 and moved out of my parents house.
