My earliest notice of “morphing” tech might be the (terrible) 80s show Manimal, which I just noticed only ran for 8 episodes over 10 weeks and yet is firmly in my memory.
What “morphing” videos from the 80s and 90s do you remember?
Willow (1988) is the obvious movie with morphing. I thought I remembered hearing that it pushed the technology forward (but I could be wrong).
And then I thought of Ladyhawke (1985), but I don’t think any scenes actually showed the morphing.
That’s basically as many as I remember from those decades. “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” doesn’t count, given the distinct lack of actual morphing. I hadn’t heard of Manimal until today; it looks … just as I would expect for 1983. I also found out last week that there was an Animorphs series in 1998, which does not look a full 15 years more advanced.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So werewolf movies and The Incredible Hulk don’t count?
An American Werewolf in London 1981
When I read the 90’s and “morph” I immediately thought of the power rangers.
This definitely went in a different direction than I expected.
