@DrunkCat That comment is a little better. You must have switched to a new AI platform. Keep training it and maybe you will improve enough to win them back.
@DrunkCat@yakkoTDI this site needs a block function so that the rest of us that don’t want to see this unrelated bullshit can use the site for what we came here for. Someone hijacking a site that everyone else comes to for shopping and sharing experiences about what is being offered for their own little personal agenda that has nothing to do with what is being sold needs to be addressed.
@macromeh@phendrick this is why it is important not to let your roomba (or off-brand meh roomba equivalent) out the front door. it will be destroyed by wildlife.
@jouest@macromeh@phendrick@yakkoTDI Fine with me! One of my favorite videos ever. I love the completely deadpan quality of it, just this odd little scene playing out, no stupid voice-over or anything.
I bought this last year and it gets probably daily use. I always a spider crawling around my basement somewhere that ends up getting schwooped into this thing.
Also kind of great for spot cleaning weird piles of dust that form in the corners of some of my rooms. And food crumbs under the counters.
@Konraden - I was about to say the same thing. We bought two of these on Side Deal, and they are awesome for dealing with the spots where hair and dust collect in corners on hard floors, or for the obnoxious random bugs that want to try to move in with us. One was slightly older, and didn’t have all the attachments, but was still worth it. And then even better when we got this version!
@k4evryng - The one that didn’t have everything was the oldest deal, and it wasn’t advertised to include many attachments, so it was all fine and fair.
The second was expected to have everything.
Again, just love these. There are fancier (and more expensive) models out there which have more suction, or longer battery life. But at this price, these are excellent value!
Refurbished items are often better than new, as they have been fixed as necessary and thoroughly checked out, whereas new items are just turned on to make sure they, um, turn on. Then, when they break, they are returned and become “refurbished.”
@joeywolf Or, if they were “refurbished” in the original sense of the word, and just “made pretty again”, they could be demonstrably worse.
I’ve bought examples of both. The worst duds were Sony CD players and Fuji bridge cameras.
So far, no Shark refurb I’ve acquired has been a dud. However, the only warranty you’ll get is the exactly-90-day one from Meh; there’s no warranty from Shark on these.
After reading the comments I’m starting to think I’m part of a dying breed. We still gently scoop up bugs, bees and anything else that does it’s part in the universe and not in our house, and we put them back outside. Ants usually lose the battle but most everything else lives on.
@Lynnerizer I do the same, except for mosquitoes, houseflies, ants and clothes moths. I have a small clear cup and stiff postcard next to the door for trap & release.
@Lynnerizer I try to use natural remedies for all those things (some eating; some encouraging to leave). I don’t like the poisons. especially if for something my cat was going to eat though I don’t have any now almost ready to renew my request.
Latest was a bat that came in through an open door. Hung out on the ceiling as a “what is that?”. Then left doors open so it could leave overnight, and it seems it did. Apparently they are good at getting mosquitoes. Some people put bathouses up on poles in their yard to foster the population. So yes bats are good. Creepy, but good.
@Lynnerizer@pmarin When I was a kid, a bat was spotted on the high ceiling of a hallway in the old school building. We all thought it was the coolest thing, and couldn’t figure out why the grown-ups were freaking out.
@blaineg@pmarin
Oh jeez, I think even when I was a kid I’d be freaking out with the adults! I have NEVER liked bats and IF you could see my hair you’d probably understand without even asking… It’s super curly and WAS super thick. Lol
One time a mouse fell off the beam above my head when I was watching TV, we had an A-frame kitchen/family room with beams. My family never heard me scream so loud or move so fast! It landed right on my head! I freaked!
@Lynnerizer same here! I have a bug catcher thingie i bought off amazon and it grabs the offending insect and gently releases it outside. NOT in the winter tho as the poor spiders freeze solid so they go into the garbage can in the garage.
@Lynnerizer@pmarin Bats are good in some respects and I think they are cool little critters, but I wouldn’t let one anywhere near me or my house. They’re a major carrier of rabies (which has no cure and is 99.9% fatal) and their bites aren’t always obvious. Appreciate them keeping the mosquito population down though
@Kyeh@Lynnerizer But the ones outdoors are the ones that find their way indoors…
…And if the outdoor population should go way down, maybe the ones indoors would feel duty-compelled to go back out and repopulate.
Seems logical. (Just thinking out loud.)
Bats are Great for eating Mosquitos. Check out Townlake Bridge in Austin. As for trying to attract them to my home, I will pass. They also carry Rabies. Dragonflies eat Tons of Mosquitos and you can plant certain plants to draw them in as well as Butterflies. Getting off subject of Vacuums. I think I am trying to distract myself from buying yet another One…
@Mandamm i have a bat ‘nursery’ in the attic with the opeing right above my bedroom deck. I have had the misfortune of finding some downed bats and after i realized they werent going to fly up and bite my face Ive started contacting local bat rescue to help me relocate them or to bandage up the damaged ones. Im donating to bat rescue now and subscribed to Bat World. I have a whole new respect for them now.
@Mandamm@samnsara
I think that’s great what you’re doing for the bats! While I don’t particularly care for them, only because they creep me out I don’t like to see any animals hurt. They ALL deserve to be loved and cared for, doesn’t mean it’s going to be by me. Well, I would donate to help them as long as I don’t have to be hands on! Again, it’s great what you’re doing!
I have this and I like it. I had to teach my kids to hold it just above the surface when they’re not using the brush attachment. If you suck up anything even slightly damp, it can be difficult to remove from the dust cup. It’s a solid machine.
I’m guessing your attachments all work… I love the vacuum but would love it more if I could use the attachments. Is there a secret to using them? My attachments attach but don’t suction. Which means that they suck I guess…
i bought this from amazon for a LOT MORE than is listed here. Of course mine was new and purple. Anywho I bought it after the cordless Dyson hubby surprised me with turned out to be a gutless POS and when a part of it (somehow) broke and rendered it totally useless…i knee jerked reacted by immediately buying this off amazon. I use it all the time! Get it…you will USE it al LOT!
I got one last time Meh sold it. But it was $40! Highly recommend. Got another for my girlfriend just now. It’s a great little vacuum for small jobs when I don’t feel like taking out the big shark.
@stewf It depends. I can keep it on the back porch all day & night , vacuuming at 10min or so intervals and it lasts until I go to bed at 2am. It won’t last a straight full on vacuuming 2 hour stretch without charging. I hope my random answer helps lol
the waste compartment to hold what it sucks up is about the size of, say, a small lemon.
most of the waste compartment is taken up by a filter basket with air holes that clog on first use and remain forever clogged because they are impossible to clean. Worse, the filter basket swings out just enough to tease you, but doesn’t completely remove, so you can’t even do a thorough job of not cleaning it.
@stewf Eh. Not that bad. The compartment is small and a lot of it is taken up by the filter housing. However, the filter housing swings out and the filter comes out for cleaning. I shake the open compartment out over the trash bin, then use an old toothbrush to clean the filter housing and the filter. It takes less than a minute. The big Shark vac has filters that are easier and less fiddly to clean, but I don’t want to get out the big one for a small spill. The baby Shark is great for cleaning the filters on air purifiers.
@rockblossom I’ve found that once the filter is out, gently tapping the plastic ends with, say, the eraser end of a pencil, brings out a surprising amount of hidden dust from between the pleats. So I do that a few times prior to finishing off the outside surface with an old toothbrush. Maybe it is also worth mentioning that the manual states the filter can be rinsed out with water, but then must be dried completely (they state 24 hrs) before replacing it in the housing.
@southpaw I’m a bit less gentle. I grab the wee filter by its wee handle and slap it against the inside of the waste can. It has held up to the abuse so far, and I have a couple of extra filters.
@Kyeh@rockblossom@southpaw If you couldn’t buy extra filters I’m not sure I’d consider this a good investment even at $30. But since you can, I think the convenience factor is simply too damn high to ignore.
@rockblossom@sammydog01 The Wandvac I have is the one they sold almost exactly a year ago, but it’s a QV410 rather than a WV410. When I search for QV410 filters on Amazon it gives me the WV410 ones. I assume they fit both? Do you have the WV or the QV?
@Kyeh They are all the same except for minor differences like color, included accessories, assembly run or different assembly lines. They all use the same filters.
@stewf the amount of dirt you can suck up depends on what it is. I can suck up and entire night of gnat suicides without emptying it…or the equivalent of about 10 giant house flies that decided to end it along the kitchen window sill.
Well I’ve been saying for months that it’s time to replace my Shark AC powered little vacuum, so I guess it’s go time on this one.
/giphy mainstream-obnoxious-feast
I bought this back in winter and I LOVE it. Fantastic handheld, much better than the extremely expensive ones I’ve had before. I use it daily and even with large amounts of pet hair, it’s still kicking
Bought this the last time it was offered. I haven’t tried any of the attachments, but I use it almost every day. It’s great for what it is designed to do. Battery stays charged a long time.
Just received the one I ordered; came charged, seems to have decent suction in a quick test round. Packed neatly, with the instructional stickers attached, and the original serial number obfuscated with Sharpie and a new serial tag pasted over.
Very small reservoir, but that’s worth the size- it’s very easy to reach up to where cobwebs gather in ceiling corners etc, and I have high hopes. We’ll see how the battery goes. Stand’s a bit flimsy, but as long as it’s in a place it won’t get jostled, should be fine. Attachments are suitable for the role. I’ll probably pick up a second one for my folks if it shows up again.
I tend to be sound sensitive. Relatively quiet, no weird whine or unpleasant noises beyond what one would expect, but I’m in my thirties, so there could be something I’m too old to hear.

Does that really work, will insects get caught up in old webs? And will a spider continue to visit an old web?

@rockblossom @stewf The holes in mine get jammed up with perlite from my houseplants. I just use a toothpick to shove it out.

@Kyeh @rockblossom @southpaw I bought a set of extra filters but I use the compressed air technique to blow out the dust.
@rockblossom @sammydog01 @southpaw Oh, smart! So do you buy the filters directly from Shark?
@Kyeh Amazon has them. The URL is wonky, but go to the AddFresh listing:
