@heartny The AI that made the header/thumbnail image thinks: “vacation” is being inside working while people outside enjoy the weather. (That does not bode well for the future under the AI Overlords.)
@Kyeh@Tadlem43@yakkoTDI I did end up in a hospital for 2 days last year for an unplanned thing that didn’t end up as major as they feared. I have to say that the staff was very good. Of course yes you do hear the constant beeping of machines all night. Plus I was near the elevators and they always leave the door open so there was the elevator bing and constant nurse desk beeps too. Maybe ear plugs until they give you the blissful “you’re going to sleep now” stuff. Wish I could get that at home, but then looking at recent celebrity deaths, maybe not.
@Kyeh@pmarin@yakkoTDI Yeah…I’m not looking forward to it at all.
I have a very large mass in my abdomen that’s pressing against my ureter. First, a stent to keep the ureter open, then testing, then surgery to remove it.
They don’t know if it’s cancer or not, but I’ve seen an oncologist (most terrifying trip I’ve ever taken!!), and he’ll do the surgery.
I just had surgery on both of my eyes after a short blindness in my eye from pressure on my optic nerve, so I wanted to get that out of the way first.
I’m usually pretty healthy. It’s all been kind of a shock, but I’m sure I’ll get through it ok.
It’s just that the journey will be kinda tough.
If any of you folks are the praying kind, I’d be appreciative of a few good words.
Thanks.
@Kyeh@pmarin@yakkoTDI Thank you! I will. It’s been a hellava year!!
I’ll probably have to go back to work out of retirement to pay all of these medical bills. lol
Lab, radiology, doctor, hospital, anesthesiology, surgery centers, etc., etc., etc. Everybody wants a slice of the pie!
ugh!
No IRK’s for me! lol
Vacation:
1 week off in Page,AZ plenty of views, cool red rocks against blue water with ancient Condors soaring the Vermillion Cliffs and Pronghorn Antelope running the Arizona Strip (as it’s called).Then heading into Utah while the monuments still exist and the last of chances to see wild horses before they get rounded up ( not under my watch). Bringing plenty of “meh-chendice” ( lanterns, outdoor speakers, hoodies, gummies, sponge/soap, knives, etc) for the journey.
@AZnatural1 that sounds good. My brother-in-law and I had always talked about meeting in the Canyonlands for a week or two, in 4WD campers or vans. Then he died unexpectedly. So the lesson is always go for things now when you can. (You also point out the government threat even though we thought the National Monuments were safe forever)
@AZnatural1@pmarin I truly wish my condolences for your brother. Having my mom go home just under a year ago I know how you feel.
Yes I am ticked at TACO for many things, as y’all said the National Parks & Monuments!
@AZnatural1@Star2236 thanks for all the thoughts. My nephew (technically his nephew; I guess nephew-in-law if there is such a thing) seems interested in taking over the role, and I’d like that, but we are both busy with life stuff for a while. Maybe later… but as I keep learning don’t put things off for too long.
I was going to go to southern Chile for a couple months but decided instead to boost my savings for the recession.
I’ll probably just crash a friend’s house in San Diego for July and August instead.
@kittykat9180 that is a great place to “crash” for a while especially if you have connections. I had a college friend that lived there but for work he moved to some inferno place like Arizona. Hoping to visit him, but only in Winter. Second is Santa Cruz where I used to live. Neither gets too hot, at least most of the time.
@pmarin it’s my old college boyfriend who moved to San Diego with me after grad school. He still lives there but I moved to some inferno place. That’s why I have to escape for the summer.
I have had a couple long weekends with friends at Science Fiction/ Fantasy conventions. They were fresh you like I don’t know what and meeting your.Con-Family/ Friends that I have known for 30+ years they are truly like my family, a strange & wonderful family with NO ODD uncle “Bob” or sister that dislikes you a lot!
@cinoclav
my S-I-L did that in time for the annual round-up and swim across- she’s really horse people and stayed with others of the same cloth.
I’m hopefully going on the permanent vacation plan at the end of next week. I just hope I live long enough to make it worth the 50+ years I have been working towards it- and SWMBO is hoping so too!
@cinoclav@PhysAssist
I have been enjoying MY retirement, even though I still do a couple of days a month usually to help out and keep my skill up. Gonna be gone most of the summer (see below) by the time we make a trip out west then over to Wisconsin to see friends.
@cinoclav@PhysAssist
“Carpe diem”!
In the late 90s we went on a cruise with my father-in-law and his second wife. As a thank you I bought him a bottle of Courvoisier XO which he was most appreciative of. I went to his house a while later and the bottle was still unopen and sitting in his cabinet. I asked him what the hell he was waiting for. I had no need to inherit it, but I would be happy to share it with him while he was alive! He made the comment that that was a good point, and we proceeded to sample that bottle. I like to think that he made some of his later life choices based on that input.
One of my French cousins (12 y/o female) and our 13 y/o granddaughter are joining us for a 3 week trip across the Southwest in an RV. . Her uncle (also French) made basically the same RV trip with us almost 30 years ago.
We are leaving from here then going to Mobile, New Orleans, Dallas, San Antonio, Carlsbad, Grand canyon Las vegas, west coast, then San Francisco between the 26th of June and the 13th of July with assorted stops in along the way (for instance we actually will be in Roswell for 4th of July) . Going to be a busy summer!!
@PhysAssist
Hopefully for all the right reasons!
The RV you can see in the background was the one that was originally intended to make that trip. Unfortunately in late May somebody came across the center line on a county rd and took off virtually the entire driver side of the box! Thankfully nobody was badly hurt but I was left scrambling around to find a replacement. Believe it or not that one is actually a 2004!
Yes, I’m planning a short summer getaway! A little break helps recharge and spark creativity. If you’re thinking the same, I’d say aim for a spot that offers both relaxation and inspiration—best of both worlds.
No but a good friend is moving back to my area!
What is this vacation of which you speak?
@heartny Oh, that word. i had to look it up.
@heartny The AI that made the header/thumbnail image thinks: “vacation” is being inside working while people outside enjoy the weather. (That does not bode well for the future under the AI Overlords.)
@heartny @rockblossom I, for one, welcome our new AI overlords.
Yep…to the hospital for major surgery.
I’d rather go to the beach or the mountains.
@Tadlem43 Oh, no! I hope everything goes very well.
@Kyeh Thanks! Me, too!
@Kyeh @Tadlem43 At least it isn’t a trip to my garage for major surgery. Good luck.
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI lol Thanks!

I hope not! I hope you can relax and recover and have a lot of Bluebell ice cream.
A mental vacation at best.
@UncleVinny Sounds like a Mehcation.

I’m sorry for the loss of your Brother in Law. I haven’t been up to Page in over 30 years- and I live in AZ.
Utah, AZ Public Lands / Monuments are no longer safe from being sold. @pmarin
@AZnatural1 @pmarin I truly wish my condolences for your brother. Having my mom go home just under a year ago I know how you feel.

@Star2236 We sure are
@PooltoyWolf @Star2236 nice private jet
EDIT way better than mine
@PooltoyWolf I’m trying to move to Scotland or Wales but no one wants to hire me.
Eighteen of us will be camping in Assateague next month for five days. Wild horses, wilder mosquitoes, and a wild amount of alcohol!
@cinoclav
my S-I-L did that in time for the annual round-up and swim across- she’s really horse people and stayed with others of the same cloth.

I’m going up north for the week of the forth and and another week for my boyfriends bday and looking to go down to Daytona beach too.
Please, no. I just want to stop.
