@Kyeh@PhysAssist@yakkoTDI do you actually have a Bengal or just the picture? As soon as I saw one I knew what I wanted. First generation was regulated in UK but I think OK now?
I’m not fully domesticated either.
I hear they are aloof and brilliant just I (used to) be.
@PhysAssist@pmarin@yakkoTDI No, that one lives in a neighborhood of my friend’s friends. I thought I was getting 2 from someone and then he changed his mind.
But I love my tuxie mutt cat, so it’s okay.
@Kyeh@PhysAssist@yakkoTDI
I keep telling myself to hold off a bit longer to be ready, but… if an offer for 1 or preferably 2 of those I would go way out of my way to make it happen. (In case you know any sources…)
Reminds me of 40 years ago shopping for gray-market Porsches. Now almost any car off the lot or certainly a Tesla makes that seem silly now. But you can’t beat the inherent beauty of an 80’s Porsche or a fine Bengal.
@PhysAssist@pmarin@yakkoTDI I don’t know any sources, sorry. My chance (that wasn’t) was kind of a fluke; someone had to leave the country and couldn’t take them. But ultimately he said the breeder he got them from demanded that he give them back to her.
@PhysAssist I’ve always been interested in that breed.
I really like Anatolians, but I think they’re happier when they have a guardian job to do. That’s not something I have for a LGD livng in a city.
However, after my last dog (RIP Sammy) our family knows we ought to stick to dogs that are a weight we can pick up easily if there’s an emergency. Trying to carry an 85 lb pittie mix to the car for a vet visit in her old age was a challenge.
I have felt your pain, as when we had 2 Newfies, an Irish Wolfhound, and a St. Bernard all at the same time, we made [and unfortunately had to use] a stretcher to move them in emergent situations.
We have long since lost them all to illnesses, but now with a >120# St Bernard rescue, and being almost 30 years older with my own joint issues, we came up with another method for transporting her to our vehicle if it becomes necessary in an emergent event, e.g., a 4-wheeled flatbed hand truck rated for 700#.
@phendrick
Well, both of our approx. 70# dogs do sit in our laps regularly, but the 100#+ St. Bernard can only fit 1/2 way up, so she is less inclined to try- except when she is feeling needy.
@PhysAssist@pmarin Well I have one Rescue Cat that was around 2 years when He came into my Home. Yes it was a Learning curve, as I had not has a pet in over 10-20 years. He is Fixed. Litter box trained & an indoor cat. he tried to go out 1 time this year - Jan. We had an inch or so of Snow. he walked out the door, I had to rush to get shoes on. He jumped back on the porch & darted inside. He has NOT wanted to go back out since, even in the warmer months, sometime I had the window open. Yes he became very spoiled! I could try to send a Pic of him if you wish.
@mehcuda67 That looks better than the weiner dog costumes I’ve seen - the way it just fits around the shoulders; it would need some sort of strap, of course.
DOGS!!! Just wish they lived longer… The Daily Joy is worth the Heartache though. My Boy will turn 15 on Halloween. He is starting to have some trouble with right hip. Having to help him get up most of the time… Around 65#… My Pit was 90#. Just gotta say, if you have a dog that is good sized but gains weight all of a sudden and wants to eat and lay around and gain weight, Get their Thyroid Checked. They also take an enormous amt of Synthroid vs Human dose and metabolize it much faster. Half life of Synthroid is 7 days for HUmans, which is the longest half-life of a drug that I have ever researched in 30 yrs of Nursing. RN… Love your Pets! Dog is God spelled backwards .
@Mandamm
From Kipling:
"There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.
When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find–it’s your own affair–
But … you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.
When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!),
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone–wherever it goes–for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear!
We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent,
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept 'em, the more do we grieve;
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long–
So why in–Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
@chienfou yes. Unlike Chihuahua which tastes terrible.
Joking aside. I do love cows… They have personalities just like dogs only without all the barking… And when they lick you it’s less gross because theyve been eating grass instead of poop. Much more huggable too!
If they wernt so expensive I wouldn’t mind a few cows.
@italionscallion please reply to this so I can send you a whisper about your tracking. Everytime I reply to our whisper from before I keeps going to customer service for some reason.
Ocelot sized.
@yakkoTDI
If they were domesticated, I’d love an ocelot-sized kitty [or even bigger].
@PhysAssist @yakkoTDI How about a Maine Coon, if you want size?
Or a Bengal, if you just want the beautiful coat?
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI
Still not domesticated though…

@Kyeh @PhysAssist @pmarin I have a friend with a Bengal. Once I move it wouldn’t take much to convince her to change the ownership of the cat.
@PhysAssist @pmarin @yakkoTDI So are you going to move?
@Kyeh @PhysAssist @pmarin As soon as I find a place that meets my requirements.
@PhysAssist @pmarin @yakkoTDI Good luck! Does your friend just find the Bengal cat too high energy or something?
@Kyeh @PhysAssist @pmarin She just doesn’t want pets.
100+ pounds
@kittykat9180
Totes agree!
Our Irish Wolfhound and Newfies were the best puppers ever- smartest and so loving!
@PhysAssist
I had a Neapolitan Mastiff and an Anatolian Shepherd.
@kittykat9180
Too cool- both great breeds.
My B-I-L has a Dogo Argentino running about 110#.
@PhysAssist I’ve always been interested in that breed.
I really like Anatolians, but I think they’re happier when they have a guardian job to do. That’s not something I have for a LGD livng in a city.
All the dog sizes are the best dog size.

Here’s the first part …
My dog (~ 50 is midsize, a choice not listed.

I think the survey writer has a bias.
(And is also smart about the Meh crowd, including “cat.”)
@Kyeh Nothing wrong with a pro-dog bias. Just ask Snoopy…

@ItalianScallion No, it’s a survey about dogs, but it shows an obvious bias towards ONE size of dog!

What is the size for a lap dog? My Great Dane thinks she is a lap dog.
@hchavers
Totes agree!
See my comments to @phendrick above
What is the Best dog Well it is an Bushel of Cats!
@mycya4me
Naw- cannot recommend- they keep climbing out of containment.
@PhysAssist ROTFLMAO at your statement! Well that is typical Cat behavior!
@mycya4me

@mycya4me @PhysAssist unless you wanted them to leave…

/showme a Bussel of Real cats that are better than Dogs!
@mediocrebot
Oh… Very neatly stacked, too.
@chienfou Or caught mating…
@chienfou @macromeh Not enough neck biting for it to be mating.
@chienfou @macromeh @yakkoTDI would that be the peck as in “a bussel and a peck?”
/showme a wiener dog in a hotdog bun
@mediocrebot ROTFLOL!
@mehcuda67 That looks better than the weiner dog costumes I’ve seen - the way it just fits around the shoulders; it would need some sort of strap, of course.
@Kyeh @mehcuda67 I’m going with @mediocrebot fail. It’s like a half bun… and who puts mustard on the outside of the bun? Yeah, Mediocrebot does.
@ItalianScallion @mediocrebot @mehcuda67 Well, it needs to look like the hotdog is on top too, I guess. But I like the shoulder style.
@Kyeh @mediocrebot @mehcuda67 Totally agree that the shoulder thing is a plus!

I had a a little Black Cocker Spaniel when I was, I guess around 5-7/8 years old, Yes I called him Blackie, he was awesome. Sadly he got Old.
