I really enjoy Balega socks. Super cushioned on the bottom, seamless until you get to where the ankle-y part folds over into itself to make the sock ‘no show’. Love ‘em
@togle Balega and Feetures are my favorites. Which is your favorite Balega style? I’m shopping for vacation socks and need a lot of cushion for walking.
Not really a particular brand, but not the cheapest. A lot of stuff falls apart after wearing them a single time. I don’t mean falling apart at the seams, there is simply no fabric left anywhere. I’ll gladly spend twice as much on socks that last four wears instead of one.
@mycya4me Same. The majority of my socks are puma socks from Costco.
I also have some cute socks with fun designs on them, but they were around $1 at target back in the day when I used to shop there. They don’t hold up well for regular use, so I’d mostly just wear them places where I know I’ll take my shoes off: visiting friends and family, or the gynecologist.
@heartny@Lynnerizer
I agree! Why are they so hard to find? I’m looking for cotton TUBE socks, you know the ones without the stitched in heel. Knee high like the ones they used to wear for sport like: basketball and soccer.
kawaguchi, I found these two old school tube socks that are 75% and 85% cotton. They’re both the ones that you mentioned with the stripes on top. The ones on Etsy seem to be what I wore as a kid.
@phendrick
That’s precisely why I buy my socks inmultiple pair packs. They’re all the same color and until you get down to the last two you can dispose of them as needed and still have complete pairs.
That being said, for half the year I only wear socks on the rare occasion I am working or “dressing up”
@blaineg Same here. I buy based on the design. I keep saying I won’t buy more, but then I’ll see another design I just have to have. I probably have 70 pairs by now. A couple of my favorites:
I Hate socks that shrink… Nice to be able to actually buy socks for size 10 and up… (Woman) They say they fit that size, but always get tight on toes… So, after you put on socks. Pull on the toe area to make them looser, because when you put your foot in shoe, it will slide the sock up tight on your toes…May have to repeat through the day if walking a lot.
@Mandamm I have the opposite problem; they’ll say “fits sizes 4-10” but I wear a size 6 shoe and with women’s socks the heel always pooches out over the back of my shoe. I’ve started buying boy’s socks.
Jeez, how things change as we age… I used to go barefoot whenever possible but these days most of the time I need to wear custom made compression stockings, for lymphedema. When I don’t, I buy the 100% cotton diabetic socks or ankle socks for summer.
@eddhernandez I buy the packs of merino wool blend socks at Costco and wear them year-round. They are comfy, don’t bunch up when my feet sweat and are surprisingly durable.
Works for me.
(Oddly, the women’s version my wife gets are not as durable??)
My size 13 1/2 feet do not allow regular socks. I have to search for extra large (12-14) which isn’t always available. And with plantar fasciitis, they have to have some arch support compression. When I do find them, I buy a dozen at a time.
I swear the under $10 a pair non-wool socks that say “breathable, long-lasting, comfortable, moisture-wicking” do the complete opposite in use. (list of opposites of above claims). Who doesn’t love them “active-whatever-channel-technology”? Sounds like cheap under-performing no-shows. That probably show TBH.
Pacas crew and knee-high compression. Because alpaca wool actually provides what over-engineered socks made of plastic only promise: good wicking and all season wear with less stank. Only downside is eventually you have to sweater shave them. I wait for the sales.
In pairs.
@yakkoTDI OMG are you sure?
I don’t wear socks so I don’t.
@kjady where do you live, and what type of shoes do you wear, please?

Darn Tough forever.
Or something on sale thats at least 35% merino.
@highonpez Very nice. Never seen these before.
Cheap Halloween socks.
And packs of socks with a related theme so I can mix and match. 6 pairs of Star Trek socks? Sign me up.
I mostly get my socks now in large pack from CostCo.

@LaserEyes

These would be perfect for the next GYN visit
Cotton socks
@heartny

YES, no matter what else they must be 100% cotton!
@heartny @Lynnerizer Wool OK too.
@pmarin I’m allergic to wool so it’s cotton for me.

Buy a car, you get five tires.
Buy socks, they should come in threes for the same reason.

None of the above.
I buy funny socks or interesting socks. Why should they be any different from my shirts? (That’s a straight line, have fun.)
A couple of standout favorites are Superman socks with capes, and Spock socks with pointy ears.
Teeturtle is a good source of fun socks.
/showme @blaineg wearing shirts as socks
@mediocrebot I think that counts as a fail.
Those socks look like socks.
@mediocrebot @xobzoo

IDK about that, looks to me like they’re the arms from a long sleeve T-shirt!
Jus sayen…

The pencil ones are cute. I like crazy socks, ones that stand out or have funky designs on them too.
@blaineg @lisagd22 @Star2236 lol!
I first read that as “stand up” and thought of socks so dirty they keep their shape and can stand on their own.
Which, of course, also reminds me of the song…

I get my socks at Costco. Decent socks at a decent price.

I buy whatever floats my boat but mostly crazy, funky designs. Socks should be fun,
BlueQ for the funny. Bomba for the cushiony. And I crochet them just for fun.

I avoid socks as much as possible these days.
Giving family hints that I need socks for Christmas.

Cheap. I use them for slippers, we have tile floors and they get holey quickly.
For the next 8-10 years, Injinji’s toe
glovessocks. I’ve still got two pairs of Five-finger shoes left, and they’re pretty durable.
