@jaynedough The mattress last night was a solid deal, presented in old-school meh style right after the holidays when you might need it. But, still, as an air mattress shopper from a long ways back, it was a good deal.
You know, you can sort-of understand why someone thought these were a good idea, but, once you think about it a while, you can totally see why a daily deal site is making a valiant effort to shift them at $3/each.
Had to pull off the freeway because my fat black dog got his head stuck in one of these things. He’s on a diet and disagreed that the chip bag was empty. So great idea, just make sure nobody’s going to go in head first for snack dust.
My car snacks are typically bananas which have a biodegradable wrapper. Should I use one of these or just chuck it out the window? Seems like my car would get a bit smelly.
@firfarmer
I’m always torn with that dilemma. I have seen articles stating you should never throw anything edible out the window even if it’s biodegradable because it tends to attract critters into harm’s way. On the other hand, I’ve also thrown my share of apple cores out on the side of the road, or spit grape seeds out a window in the summertime after noshing on a bunch of muscadines. Especially true when I had my convertible.
Always funny when sales say “Save $27!” as if I had been just about to buy four at the regular price. “Spend $12!” would be more truthful. (yes, I bought. Having just picked up a new (to me ) car on Monday, there was little chance I would pass)
This is the exact size container I’ve wanted for a compost container on my kitchen counter! So, another in the car, one by the bed, but where to put the 4th one?!
Btw, I use the waxy cereal bags when they’re empty to line my small trash containers. (And random other bags that would otherwise go IN the garbage.)
Having earned the honor of Being the Dad that Attempted to Give All of His Adult Children Something Practical for Their Cars (these), I can provide a professional appraisal of the overall functionality and value of today’s offering.
These are super lightweight and will tip over as you round a slight curve unless they are perfectly wedged into the space you put them in. Mine is (wedged), nobody else’s are. Theirs all tip over (if they have not already tossed them out because of this propensity). There is no weighted bottom like there is in virtually every other thing made to ride in a car and not tip over when navigating a curve.
Similarly, unless you undo the flap and raise the flexibly portaled lid to empty them, reaching into these through said portal to grab the items you want to remove and discard of elsewhere will result in the trash device being firmly stuck on your hand. No practical amount of arm and hand flailing will result in release. You’ll most likely end up just leaving enough heavy trash items in the thing to help resolve this and the previous issue.
There is no functional bag attachment mechanism, though there is the illusion of such a mechanism. The bag MIGHT be held in place by the oddly weak (hardly rare earth) magnets that “hold” the lid in place if it wasn’t for the fact that placing 1 mil of plastic between the two magnets inexplicably renders their magnetic fields inoperable.
These are quite a bit less expensive (40% less per) than the last times they were offered, which means Meh is holding a lot of something they desperately want to be done with, and they know these trash receptacles have no chance at all to become mythically relevent (like pallets of fused candy corn or Schrödinger’s toothbrushes). Forcing a quad purchase of something that most people will MAYBE only want one of is a bad sign. Here’s an idea - toss in an IRK bag with every purchase of these and you’ll get these things flying off the shelf. Maybe not… but I love my many IRK bags.
A whole bunch of small trash bags that you can use in an alternative and properly designed car trash bin is about the only redeeming value here.
@Jonas4321 The little clips on the sides hold the handles of grocery store bags. They work pretty well, I don’t know why the included bags don’t have handles.

@robson SO THAT STUPID ROBOT CAN HEAR ME. HIS HEARING AIDS
NEED REPAIR.
@MrGoodGuy @robson THAT’S WHY HE HAS BEEN REPEATING EVERYTHING LATELY!! I DON’T KNOW WHY I WOULD NEED FOUR (4!) OF THESE THINGS EITHER!
@MrGoodGuy YOU KNOW WHY MR. SHOUTY!!
@MrGoodGuy

Well of course the other 3 are for next year’s stocking stuffers!
Please don’t fill your four cars with trash
@dpease
I know, how gross…

@dpease I couldn’t afford.4 cars unless they’re trashy.
Cool! I don’t need to build another garage.

@cfg83 Now, that is a collapsible car trash can.
Honestly what is going on at meh. You guys haven’t had anything good on the daily deal for a long time and a lot of stuff like tonight’s are repeats.

@jaynedough @therealjrn
… and I bought some of the smart plugs a couple of days back. Of course YMMV.
Also useful as a bedside used tissue collector that provides at least a token amount of resistance to feline attentions.

@ergomeh Evidently Meh is also trying to market to Taxi Drivers. Selling point: Big enough to hold Robert De Niro’s scowl.
what sort of car doesn’t have windows that roll down?
@omally Don’t be so obvious. Just throw it into your pickup bed, then you can say “Oops!” when it blows out on the road.

Got to admit that visual made my day. Thanks!

@mediocrebot Glad you kept it safe with the leash.
@dave @mediocrebot I think this dog has a future with other meh daily deals.
@dave @mediocrebot You haven’t seen Vacation?

@ParadisePete Oh great! Now, when one fills up, you can just chuck it out the window because you’ll have three more just like it to back you up!
I bought a 2 pack last time. This is convenient for my car. There’s like 20 bags included. I recommend it!
Hell, why not! Cheap presents!

@DenelleMT I use those ubiquitous padded plastic mailers. I just fold a little “rim” around the top to help keep them open.

@Jonas4321
Have you tried adding sand to the container, BEFORE installing the bag?
False advertisement. There are 10 bags with reach trash bin making it a total of 40, not 20 each for 80.
