Frosty the Goat, man (December 2025 Scapegoat Blame Thread)
16Turkey time is over, and now we’re on to gift season. I hope you’ve already gotten a start on shopping so you don’t find yourself hunting right up to the last minute. If you missed out on those Black Friday sales, you’d have done well to blame @cfg83, but their time under the gun has now passed, and so you’ll need a new place to point your fingers if you miss Cyber Monday. Conveniently, @caffeineguy is a ready target. Start your blame engines.

Stay warm, or blame @caffeineguy for the cold. It’s just getting started.

WELCOME @caffeineguy! I was a December goat too! It’s a wonderful, rich holiday season with plenty of blames!
I’ll start by blaming @cfg83 for my cats barfing on my expensive, thickly piled and padded bedroom carpet earlier on November 30th.
BUT I’ll credit YOU with an unblame as my new pet urp cleaner-upper worked magically to clean it ALL up!
So you start your reign with a point to the good!
@therealjrn Do I keep track of blames vs unblames
I always thought meh needed a @goat catch-all that’s redirected to the current goat! I guess that’s my fault now.
@caffeineguy @goat @therealjrn Yes for the entire Month You get the Blame, even though sometime you think you don’t deserver it!
So I will also Blame you for the Cold weather in the South!
/showme a goat operating a weather machine over a globe and pointing to the south east united states, directing cold weather
@caffeineguy @goat
Tip: Turn forum notifications off
I pass the scepter to you @caffeineguy …
/showme anthropomorphized goat wearing turkey cap gives white elephant holding a scepter with its trunk to another goat wearing a Santa Claus cap.
@caffeineguy And I award you with goat chocolate to help you when you are blamed :
BLAME
There has been a huge bot attack on the forum. I count 36 spam threads.
@zhicks1987 Obviously Trying to take focus away from one of the meh-ist goats of all time, me!
@zhicks1987
Looks like the meh IT staff has cleaned house…
Thanks y’all!
Best wishes for being a BAAAAAADD goat this Month of December! Please help Santa or else you will also get blamed for that too!
Oh boy, it’s a mess out there. There’s only one place for the blame. Blame @caffeineguy for a second night of spam ALL OVER!

/showme the goat buried under a mountain of spam posts
@therealjrn yep I also blame the Dec @caffeineguy for the spam Mail toi! Of course the cold rainy/ snowy weather!
@mycya4me @therealjrn spam is a comfort food for goats.
@therealjrn And if you see the goat you are no brained? Or do we just blame @caffeineguy
@caffeineguy @Kidsandliz @therealjrn
… or looking at the wrong picture.
@therealjrn What if I see dead people? Does that make me “what a tweest” brained?
@therealjrn
@cfg83 WHAT A TWIST!
Hey @caffeineguy is that you spying on us from the sky in the clouds?
Blame- I broke a porcelain dinner plate, and it shattered all across my floor. Now I’m sitting with tape in my hand to try and get the glass pieces out.
@Star2236 Oh, yikes! Do you have one of those sticky tape rollers? To keep your hand farther away from the shards?
@Star2236 maybe you should put the tape on your feet instead?
@Star2236 sounds like you need a vacuum for Christmas? Lol
@unksol
Just got one
Well, well, well. :sigh: It’s just not right. It’s just not the natural order of things…
But I guess the goat gets an unblame for not having an enshitted (new word! Thanks narf!) spammy meh forum this morning. Come getcher unblame, goat.
/showme an unblame
@therealjrn You’re welcome, though I really can’t take credit for the term:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification
Granted, I’m not sure if the term cover when some things are just plain shit:

@narfcake @therealjrn

Blame- my boyfriend has been working on things in the house for the past month and it’s driving me CRAZY. It’s disrupting my sleep and personal time, I never have alone time as there’s always workers here. I’m really starting to go insaine.
@Star2236 If you can’t beat them, join them!
@Star2236 I don’t see anything with going to insaine. It’s quite nice :
/showme Pleasant rustic town with sign saying “Welcome to Insaine”.
@cfg83 @Star2236 So just Derry, Maine?
BLAME - it took over 4.5 HOURS to drive through Baton Rouge on Sunday. People couldn’t drive their tanks just for starters. One accident resulted in a (for me) 1 hour and 41 min hold up. That is NOT a huge town. It isn’t LA, NYC or Boson just for starters. Meant I got to Houston really, really late. Of course then there was another accident with a 55 min hold up. And some other areas of stopped traffic for reasons unknown.
Where was my teletransporter when I needed it? And the helecopter blade attachments for my car is still sitting unshipped from a best not to be named website. (I only wish
)
@Kidsandliz Please to be parking not where orifices will deform your vehicle.
@Kidsandliz Meh had some hoverboards a few weeks ago… When things get really slow, abandon your 1994 Toyoto Corolla, grab the hoverboard out of your trunk and zip through the traffic!
@caffeineguy In my minivan I pack everything including the kitchen sink because there is room. Not sure I could carry it all on a hoverboard - well unless hoverboards can pull trailers since I’d then need a trailer.
Blame!!!
Shit it’s cold this morning.
This isn’t supposed to happen till January here.
@f00l apparently goats grow a nice winter coat. But if you’re not a real goat, you can try a coat from https://goatcoatshop.com/
Extending on the “not blaming the goat” from last month:
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/12/after-nearly-30-years-crucial-will-stop-selling-ram-to-consumers/
@narfcake WTF!?!??!? How will the bots survive?!?!?
@narfcake The irony is that I have been “sourcing” my RAM purchases from the TRW swap meet in Los Angeles. This is for legacy/thrift store laptops and such. None of that filthy “new in box” for me.
@narfcake Wow. An almost 4x jump since August :
If I was the On-truh-pen-oohr type then I could have made a fortune. I wonder if there is a RAM Coin out there … of course there is(*) :
(*) @cfg83 is indemnified from any and all damage including viruses, worms, or IRKs that may result from visiting aforementioned website.
@narfcake I forgot to mention that @caffeineguy has a LOT of explaining to do :
@cfg83 @narfcake It’s obvious to me that @cfg83’s abuse of /showme last month had skewed all the demand metrics for AI, so they’re buying up all the RAM and GPUs
@cfg83 That’s probably like the last swap meet standing nowadays, no? I used to do ACP decades ago down in Santa Ana, but that was then and I’m not sure if there are even any computer stores left in that business complex.
I miss All Electronics up in Van Nuys more, though.
The 32GB DDR5 kit I bought a little while back is $200 higher right meow.
@narfcake Yeah, I went to All Electronics when it was closing the doors. Very sad for us but they seemed ok with it.
There used to be a monthly electronics fair that was mostly at the Pomona fairgrounds, but that went under a long time ago. I can tell some of those vendors went to the TRW swap meet. The TRW is slowly dying, but it’s still worth going to when the weather is nice, or nicer than the summer inland weather we suffer nowadays.
@caffeineguy @narfcake
/showme anthropomorphised goat with evil grin and holding a basket fill of RAM Chips. Mediocrebot is begging for RAM.
@mediocrebot
/showme mediocrebot looking at us with pleading look and saying “Please, guvna, can you spare a few megabytes for Tiny Tim Cray-chit? He’s not so tiny, but he is the first super computer, and he’s not doing so well these days”.
Well, I’m not really going to blame the goat for this, it’s too sad - but I said goodbye to my beloved cat Toby this evening. He wasn’t doing well at all the past few days. The vet was lovely; she did check to see if there was any hope for recovery, but ultimately we decided it was time to let him go. I miss him terribly.
@Kyeh
I am sorry to hear this. Hopefully the cat distribution system will deliver a suitable companion in the near future.
@Kyeh aw…Hopefully my Mr. Whiskers is waiting for Toby at the other side of the rainbow bridge to greet with joy. I’m sure Toby’s little paw prints are all over your heart and sweet memories will endure.
@Kyeh
.

@Kyeh @speediedelivery
Sorry to hear about Toby’s demise. I know this will leave a huge hole in your life for a while. Please know that you are in a lot of people’s thoughts and prayers.
@Kyeh sending love to you to support your during this difficult time, and to Toby that his journey over the rainbow bridge is peaceful.
@chienfou @speediedelivery @tinamarie1974 @therealjrn @yakkoTDI
Thank you all. 🫶
@Kyeh I am so Sorry it was time for Toby to cross the Rainbow Bridge! But don’t worry he will be waiting for you on the other side when it is your time to Cross!
@mycya4me Thanks, I hope so!
@Kyeh Oh my gosh. I am so sorry. You had’t had him all that long either. It is so incredibly hard when our sweet pets die.
@Kidsandliz Yes, thank you; only 5 years! The Humane Society said he was 3 when I got him, so I expected to have him a lot longer. But one of the vets did say the HS sometimes guesses low if they don’t know, because people prefer to adopt younger cats. Still a shock - he seemed okay until about a month ago. He was a very quiet presence, but he’s left such a big void.
@Kyeh
@Kyeh sorry to hear about your furry friend.
@Kyeh
You had Toby for only 5 years, but what a tremendous loss. Five years for some IS a lifetime, a lifetime of LOVE!
My heart goes out to you, may all the wonderful memories of the good life you and Toby shared get you through your grief and this sad time.

I’m so sorry Kyeh!
@caffeineguy Thank you.
@Lynnerizer Thank you - yes, I totally thought he’d be with me a lot longer! I’m mostly okay, but I get unexpected jolts all through the day from simple things like taking his food bowls out of the dishwasher - or realizing I don’t have to close the door to the basement … it’s like these sudden little rainstorms unexpectedly. I’ll get another cat sometime but not yet. I miss him terribly.
Blame: The heating system in my uninsulated apartment can’t keep up with the cold weather (high teens outside). It’s only 65 inside due to unbalanced air flow. The small backup electric baseboard radiators aren’t helping much.
@ItalianScallion
I saw that you northeasterners are in the deep freeze right now!
@ItalianScallion Only 65? That’s where we set the thermostat to
Put on some warm clothes!
@caffeineguy @ItalianScallion sweat pants/sweat shirt. Socks help way more than you’d think.
I’m going between 52-58 inside. 65 sounds hot to me
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That being said, I don’t have any high teens outside my door. Might wanna call their parents. Cops are excessive if they are behaving
@caffeineguy @ItalianScallion @unksol
Did you put in one of those speakers to keep them away?
@caffeineguy @ItalianScallion @therealjrn no baby shark here. It Is too cold to throw them a Maren Moris concert with the windows open.
Dammit Goat! You couldn’t even afford a penny??

@therealjrn Hey, pennies aren’t being made anymore! (Reminds of something I read in an Instagram posting: how is Spotify going to pay their artists now?) And when did we ever have currency in tenths of cents? Why are petroleum products still the only thing priced in tenths of cents? Ok, enough of the Abe Simpson shaking his fist at the clouds thing…
@ItalianScallion @therealjrn
When I was young… I can remember mill coins being around.
@ItalianScallion @therealjrn
@chienfou–here in the US?!?
@chienfou @ItalianScallion @Kyeh My property taxes are calculated using mils for the breakdown. The taxman always gets his due.
@chienfou @ItalianScallion @therealjrn @Kyeh
I have a few ha’penny coins from (1950’s) New Zealand around here somewhere. Value was 1/960th of a pound.
Hard to even imagine a time when those were useful.
@chienfou @Kyeh @macromeh @therealjrn There was a time in the US when tenths of cents was useful: when petroleum products were way below one dollar per unit. I remember that when I was a kid, gasoline was around 30 cents per gallon and heating oil was around 15 cents per gallon. At that time, they would be priced at something like 32.8 cents or 15.4 cents, i.e., not ending in .9 like the prices always do now. I wonder now what I would have to pay for exactly one gallon of gas at $2.009. Would it be $2 or @2.01?
@chienfou @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @macromeh Next time I’m at my Costco, and if gas is still at $2.009, I’ll try to test that!
@2 @chienfou @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @therealjrn
Maybe it varied by state - I started pumping gas the summer of 1972. Our pumps were always set to xx.9 cents per gallon. But the final cost was always whole dollars and cents.
@chienfou @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @macromeh @therealjrn You would pay $2.01 due to normal maths rounding. Also the .009 is from taxes placed on the fuel.
@chienfou @ItalianScallion @macromeh @therealjrn @yakkoTDI $2.009 is pretty cheap compared to the prices here, even at Costco.
@Kyeh
Yes. St Louis area. Missouri was the last state to officially use them the end of '61.
@therealjrn
Since both the amount of gallons and the cost are only two decimal digits on the pumps display that’s not going to happen
@chienfou What’s not going to happen? It was an either/or test, with 2 possible outcomes.
@therealjrn
You’ll never be able to tell when you hit the point 009 level because you can’t tell what the display says for that third digit…
The only hope would be if you could hit exactly at 1 gallon.
@chienfou
/showme stamping my foot and saying “Nuh huh! Can Too!”
@mediocrebot
The problem is that each hundredth of a gallon represents 2 cents. And that’s the finest you can differentiate on the pump. So no way of knowing if that thousandth of agallon is what changed the number…
@2 @chienfou @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @macromeh @therealjrn
I recall two across-the-street-from-each-other gas station having a price war during my childhood.
I think regular went well below $.20 a gallon. Even pushed toward $.10.
Finally they gave it up.
All the local moms and dads were sad when the price war ended.
@chienfou @mediocrebot The cost on the pumps I see are three decimal digits so as to include the tenths of cents. It seems to me that showing only two decimal digits on a pump and having signs with a non-zero third decimal digit would be false advertising and illegal. Pumps I see also show gallons in three decimal places. They all have a town/city certification sticker to attest to their accuracy in dispensing.
Of course there’s simple way to get rid of all this confusion: put an end to pricing anything in any unit smaller than available legal tender. It wouldn’t even require new pumps; you’d just set the tenths of cents to zero.
@ItalianScallion @mediocrebot
So what happens when a nickel is the smallest available coin??
@chienfou @ItalianScallion @mediocrebot
Same plot of Office Space and Superman III – someone will try to hoard all the fractions into a payout.
@chienfou Actually, the nickel is even more uneconomical to produce than the cent was, so it should get ditched as well. Given that we made do with no coins smaller than the cent when the dollar had more than twenty times its current value, ditching the last digit (the single-cents place) and swapping over to rounding to the nearest dime makes economic sense, as does increasing the use of dollar coins. (But we really blew it on the size of the current one; differentiating between the buck and the quarter is too time-consuming and inexact.)
@chienfou @werehatrack
And all the other ones since the Eisenhower clads that they stopped making in 1978.
@werehatrack
While strictly true that’s a bit deceptive. Correct, the net cost for making a nickel is much more than making a penny, BUT, the net value is also five times as much. As a percent of cost to value the nickel wins out.
@chienfou @werehatrack IMHO, we should drop both the penny and the nickel, and adjust all prices to the nearest multiple of 10 or 25 cents.
@macromeh
Price or transaction total?
@2 @chienfou @f00l @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @therealjrn I recall (in the 1970’s) when the price of gas hit $1/gal and up. The old gas pumps at the station where I worked (part-time while in high school) only allowed a 3-digit price per gallon (up to 99.9 cents), so we had to set the price at 1/2 the actual number and then double the total price shown on the pump until the pumps could be replaced.
Yeah, that was a fun time, customer-service wise…
@2 @f00l @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @macromeh @therealjrn
I also remember that (it was late 70s though) . It was around 40¢/gal when I graduated in 73.
@chienfou Seems like transaction total might be best, but either way would work as long as it was mandated to be the same everywhere. Folks would adjust.
@2 @chienfou @f00l @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @therealjrn Yeah, I started my part-time job at the gas station early summer of 1973 and late 1973 was when the oil embargo hit and the gas supply and prices started going crazy.
@2 @chienfou @f00l @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @macromeh @therealjrn New Zealand stopped minting one and five cent coins a while back; the round the transaction as needed, and it seems to generate very little push-back. Kiwis tend to be far more chill than USians, in my experience, so their results may not be predictive of ours.
@2 @chienfou @f00l @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @therealjrn @werehatrack
Yeah, real chill…

@2 @f00l @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @macromeh @therealjrn
Price jumped significantly in mid 70s but didn’t climb to >$1 until end of decade.d
@chienfou @werehatrack It may cost more than it is worth, but then pennies, nickels, etc. aren’t used just once. They are often used for decades. Then the cost per use is incredibly low. The government is looking at the wrong metric.
@Kidsandliz

@2 @chienfou @f00l @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @therealjrn
Depends on the state - it passed the $1/gal mark earlier in the 70’s in Oregon.
.)
e.g., current price of a gallon of regular gas where I fill up is $3.65 (and higher at other local stations, and even more in some cities). Lots of state and local taxes included in the price. Meanwhile, as noted above, gas is going for ~$2/gal in some other states. (And you don’t even want to know what it costs in California
@2 @f00l @ItalianScallion @Kyeh @macromeh @therealjrn
I pay around $2.50 at my local Sam’s or Costco.
It is not even Winter officially & the South has already had two Snowfalls. So Major Blame on the Goat! But I got some great Photos!

@pakopako
@pakopako Sadly, it’s a suicidal tactic in right-to-fire states. (But there are workarounds. This is too complicated to address in a short post, and nobody wants to see me run on and boringly on about crap. And there are plenty of suggestions elsewhere. You may consider this a Side Quest.)
@werehatrack Side quest accepted
@pakopako @werehatrack @therealjrn
What a sad view on life as a human being.
@chienfou It is what it is. I have the receipts showing how I got here, and I’m not going to take more damage by dragging them out. I’ve come to have a firm understanding of “unless you’ve walked their path, you don’t understand what they’ve been through; be slow to judge.”
@chienfou @pakopako @therealjrn @werehatrack
Which part is the sad part? Not giving a fuck about your job and doing the bare minimum to get paid? Which will make you disposable in most states.
Having a boss that would take advantage? Which many will. Or a soulless company?
The fact that sometimes you gotta eat some shit to pay the bills even though no one should have to?
The fact that they are trying to replace people with pointless AI while driving up people’s bills and pretending it’s good?
@pakopako @therealjrn @unksol @werehatrack
Is the boss bring an asshole to his employees only doing the minimum? He isn’t getting paid extra to make them happy… just to get results.
As an ER nurse it wasn’t my job to pick up stuff that people threw out in the parking lot, repair equipment that wasn’t functioning, wipe down the sink in the bathroom when patients left it a mess, etc. I did those things because they needed doing, I was there, I was drawing a check, and it was quicker and easier for me to do than track down housekeeping, maintenance, etc.
@chienfou @pakopako @therealjrn @werehatrack
I think you of all people might have a good reason to say “not my job” lol. And there are definitely times where you have to say. “No I’m clocked out”/work life balance/You’re being taken advantage of/I can’t work overtime.
Not the vibe that clip gives lol. Very much a hostile work environment/they should work somewhere else.
@chienfou In my semi-professional opinion as a former manager over people whose job performance could present a clear and present danger to customers’ lives, I will cheerfully and emphatically tell any boss in such a position that yes, keeping the employees ‘happy’ very much is your fucking job, goddammit.
@chienfou @werehatrack I feel like this is highly subjective… Like when I was I was working hourly. I’m getting paid. Ya do what you have to. If someone had that attitude I’d find them highly annoying.
Or salary on a shift… I think I’d be planning a union to get people to do those jobs that you should not be doing. Because you’re time is better spent elsewhere. But somebody sitting in the corner refusing to help would also bother me.
Then there is “that’s literally not my job and I don’t really know how to do this. You should not be pushing those responsibilities onto my role on top of xyz. I’m not qualified/trained for this. Mistakes will happen”
Janet would like you to know she thinks it’s cold in here.
@unksol Here’s someone on Facebook with at least 13 cats.

@therealjrn @unksol Apparently, judging from their food sack, those are actually puppies.
@macromeh @unksol I think A.I. is ruining Facebook. I know those little reel videos are just lousy with fakes.
@macromeh @therealjrn @unksol
I don’t know, there’s a litter container in the corner by the stove so it’s entirely possible that the puppies get fed at a separate time! Lord only knows how many of those there may be…
@therealjrn @unksol where’s the 13th, and don’t say taking the picture
@pakopako @unksol Well, somebody has to take the picture!
@pakopako @therealjrn that AI seems to have some some negative association with cats? Facebook died a long long time ago. If you’re still in there you may be buried with it.
@pakopako @unksol You can ask @narfcake about this…the internet is actually run by cats, for cats. We are all here dependent upon their largesse. I don’t make the rules.
@narfcake @pakopako @therealjrn mmm. It could show something more like @lisaviolet cats chilling. Nope
Goes straight to cat hoarder trope. Yes tossing out treats is kinda chaos but fun
Also. I refuse to take the word of a man who does not have a single cat. But hoard of shirts.
@narfcake @pakopako @therealjrn @unksol Our kitchen is bigger than that.
And we have a separate laundry room.
@lisaviolet @narfcake @pakopako @therealjrn right. Cats chilling in their paradise. Nope AI goes hoarder.
@lisaviolet @pakopako @therealjrn @unksol
https://shirt.woot.com/offers/cats-greatest-invention
Fair, but I iz hooman?
@narfcake @pakopako @therealjrn @unksol Saving!
@extramedium @narfcake @troy @dave This goatdom really isn’t that bad… I was totally expecting my email notifications to blow up being tagged, but this December crowd is being eerily nice and only blaming me for a few things. If I may make a suggestion, setup @goat as an alias to the current month’s goat, and while you’re at it, maybe add @mod[erator]. To make sure it doesn’t get out of hand, perhaps you could also make @aliases only work for members?
@caffeineguy @everybody

Why hasn’t my suggestion for an authentic goat costume been implemented yet? I think the goat should wear it when involved in goatly duties. I’m attaching (again) an historical picture depicting what it might look like if it was a horse.
@caffeineguy @everybody @therealjrn we don’t get trophies anymore either. Pout
@caffeineguy @everybody @unksol : sad panda:
@caffeineguy @everybody @therealjrn that’s a unicorn though? Not a horse? Guess it is just the ears
@caffeineguy @everybody @unksol Uh…I took the pointy thing to be a weirdly high ear…hm…well, it was just a sample as I couldn’t find a vintage goat one.
@caffeineguy @everybody @therealjrn lol it’s a horse of course of course. My brain is still decompressing before going back to gdb/debugging. I saw unicorn for a second
/youtube horse of course of course
@caffeineguy @everybody @unksol Of course, we could just go with wooly leggings.

/blame been doing a deployment since Friday night that should have taken a few hours net. and the DBAs… Did something I’ll not get into but made my life significantly worse.
But it’s also been a few years since we’ve had the camaraderie of everything going sideways
So I guess /unblame
Except /blame because I was to busy to blame you which you’re complaining about?
Also I’m not sure the engine is working yet because of all the other issues. So. /Blame.
Happy now? Lol
@unksol I’ll happily take blame for your team’s trauma bonding
Good luck!
@caffeineguy it’s officially gone past trauma bonding… It’s still happening because we didn’t know that their script applied to all of prod. Not just one database. And they didn’t think to mention it… Just sat on the couch after a few hours of coaching them to fix another module… We are officially in blame someone territory. But hey. Learned something? This is how those checks get put in scripts.
@caffeineguy @unksol
/This is how those checks get put in scripts.
AND in your pocket.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@caffeineguy @chienfou lol I wish. Never mind the checks or whatever is going to happen with AI. I can almost always find/fix/correct my mistakes.
I’m definitely not a DBA I just end up playing one in meetings.
I should not be the one comparing lower databases to higher once, never mind databases I just have a link to and nothing else.
But I’ve got my own issues to address. Can’t be too judgemental. Just kinda ran out of ideas/they didn’t have any either sigh.
Blame. Dementia and Alzheimer’s suck. There is a reason they call it the long goodbye. It doesn’t take loved ones quickly but piece by tiny piece. My mom is 88 and is on anti anxiety, depression, dementia, thyroid, high blood pressure and cholesterol meds. She decided last friday that she was not going to take anymore pills. Even her favorite caregiver could not convince her to take them. I told her if she didn’t take them, I would not be able to come see her. I visit daily and even work from there a few hours a day. She said she didn’t care since I never visit anyway. She is getting me mixed up with my sister who has only visited once since we moved her into a home close to me. Without those anti anxiety meds she is chasing me around the building threatening to kill me.
Unblame, her caregiver convinced her to take the anti anxiety today at least. I’m going to suggest to her that she just add one additional pill a day to eventually get her back on track. Baby steps.
@ironcheftoni
I’m really sorry you’re going through that; it really is hard and sad! I hope she’s back on her meds soon.
@ironcheftoni @Kyeh
Went through the cycle of dementia with both my parents, eventually losing them in their early 90s. Thankfully theirs was a gradual fading process and they remained compliant and capable of many of their daily activities until the end. Hospice proved to be an inviable resource for Mom towards the end.
Bless you and may you find the strength and courage to navigate this path…
@ironcheftoni @Kyeh
Invaluable dammit…
@ironcheftoni I feel you Pain, I was my Mom’s caregiver, yes she had dementia, it is such a horrible disease. I can say that she called me by name about a month before she went home, and I know with a day or so before she knew who I was you could tell it in her eyes she knew I was someone that loved her greatly, and she went home. July 10th 2024. The holidays are the the worst.
I can’t blame the Goat. But just relive the great memories you had together!
@mycya4me I’m sorry for your loss. We never had the best relationship when she was well. I’m just the only one that stepped up and took charge of her care. My sister does nothing but make excuses . She did start taking her meds again. The nurse visited her and explained what they were. I noticed that she wrote down “vitamins” so thank goodness for caregivers that know how to twist the truth a little to get her to cooperate.
@ironcheftoni Thank You, you had me tearing up while I was relaying my feelings. Well my sister (younger) & her two kids had tried many dirty tricks that Mom really did not want anything to do with them, even with her limited memory. I don’t think she remember the reasons (which was a VERY good thing!) Hey I lived across the street, then had to move into the House. It became a 24/7 full time job. Friends we both trusted gave me a break a few times. Yes it was hard. But now I wish I could have spent more time with her. I got to honor her wish to be in the Home that my parent built as lot as possible. I guess the blessing was, once she had to go into assisted care, It was less than 9 months before she went home & less than 30 days from her 94th birthday. Oh btw the last time I spoke to my sister/ family was at the funeral. That is it. in a way it is for the Best. No contact with them. They are mad. So.
Blame,
But I’m getting by with some lanterns I got here a while ago, which are working nicely. And it’s not cold; currently 54 degrees, which is nuts for December. I’m lucky to have a gas stove, too. I just hope the food in the fridge doesn’t spoil.
caffeinegoat@caffeineguy - we had really high winds today and the power’s been out since the middle of the afternoon. On one of the longest nights of the year!These things that I got here back in May have been helpful.

@Kyeh Surely you had 3-Pack: Eveready ReadyFlex Floating LED Lanterns, a Kenwood LiFePO4 Portable Power Stations to keep your fridge cold, Coleman Brazos 20°F Sleeping Bag to keep you warm, Some Ramen+Kind Bars, and some Bottled Cheer Vintage 2022 Red Wine to take the edge off.
@caffeineguy I do have some of the wine from a previous year … but the power’s back on this a.m., whew!
@Kyeh We lost power about 2 AM Wed. (BIG ol’ windstorm.) I waited for it to come back on until about noon, then got out the generator to keep the refrigerator and freezer running (and the well pump pumping). Power was finally restored around 5 PM Wed. Sucks, but could have been worse - it has been unseasonably warm here for December, so no worries about freezing.
Blame again: today’s winds are even worse. The power’s out again & Xcel says it might not be restored until 10 pm TOMORROW!!!
@Kyeh oh no! Crossing my fingers it is restored earlier
@Kyeh @tinamarie1974
“It’s dejas vu all over again”
@Kyeh @tinamarie1974
Sigh… déjà vu… need to proofread better!
@chienfou @tinamarie1974 Thanks - it came back on about an hour ago. My sister’s is still out.
What was especially unnerving was that my cell service ALSO went out last night, so I couldn’t call or text! I saw on the news that the winds toppled a bunch of power poles & trees. I guess they gusted over 100 mph at times! So I’m lucky my trees didn’t come down, or the roof blow off. I suppose I should check it for damage, though.
@chienfou @tinamarie1974 ALSO - it happened on the longest night of the year, with no moon!
At least it wasn’t that cold.
@chienfou @tinamarie1974 Oh, and I think I was feeling the effects of the Covid shot I got at Costco on Thursday.
@macromeh Did your power go out again? I saw that a lot of western states have had horrible high winds.
What generator do you use to power your refrigerator? I’m going to be throwing out some spoiled food from the past few days, unfortunately.
@Kyeh @macromeh
Yeah, weather patterns are definitely changing and provision for power interruption is becoming more and more a necessity. Sorry about the food loss, but glad that you fared okay overall.
@Kyeh No, actually the following couple of days have been quite mild here. Like, completely still with no breeze at all. Weird…
Several downed trees and broken branches to clean up though. But no resultant damage to structures, vehicles, etc.
@macromeh Glad to hear it!
@Kyeh Oh, and my generator is an Onan gasoline fueled rated at 5KW. (It is actually the same hardware as their 6KW gen, down rated to 5KW to hit a price point. So it has plenty of surge capacity to start our well pump, which was my biggest concern.)
@macromeh Oh - so it’s more powerful than what one would need just for a refrigerator, then?
Onan. I looked it up and I’m juvenile enough to get the giggles when I read that the company was acquired by the Cummins Engine Company, creating the Cummins Onan brand.
@chienfou @macromeh Thanks, and it turns out I didn’t really have to throw out much besides stuff that was already in the brink of spoiling. Good thing I cleaned the fridge anyway because I found a really impressive mold colony on a piece of bread!
Way back behind other things. Sorry if you’re reading this while you eat.
@Kyeh Yes, that has been a source of much humor and word play since I bought it.
(My standard joke is that when I first got it, I thought it had an oil leak.)
@chienfou @Kyeh We call those “science experiments”.
@macromeh Snicker!
Yes, these mold colonies are actually kind of interesting to look at – briefly.
@Kyeh @macromeh
Sad that you lost stuff, butglad that you found other stuff! This time of year you typically expect that you could just store s*** outside until your fridge came back on…
@chienfou @macromeh Exactly - I’ve done that before, put stuff in ice chests outside. But at least the house wasn’t freezing cold.
Ok goat, I’m here on the Eastern side of Oklahoma waiting on a big, expensive package to arrive via truck from RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIFORNIA. It has been hunkered down in New Mexico for 2 days! /Blame
@therealjrn
Was the goat able to get your package released?
@chienfou It sat there in the hub all day, then finally moved last night/this morning. It’s in Texas now. Since it’s FedEx I’m betting it will be here Monday.
I was getting a little worried it might have been in one of those many trucks that were blown over all over the highways earlier this week!
@chienfou @therealjrn I got my waffle maker today!
@therealjrn

/giphy good news
@chienfou @mycya4me Well, things are looking up! I just got this text:
I’m not quite sure, however whether it’s a blame or unblame…I certainly hope Edward handles my Wang with care.
I want to Blame the Goat for all the Cold High Winds, a Little Snow (at least got out I got some pictures). Plus No White Christmas is in the Forecast! Even a dusting is fine, sometimes I have had to settle for a few flakes on Christmas Day, it melted as soon as it it the ground.
Unblame - achievement of dubious distinction: In spite of the power outage killing my most recent Wordle & Connections streaks ( not that impressive anyway) I’ve FINALLY gotten back to having my last three click numbers all match!

Not a blame or unblame, but this might be too old to safely use …

BTW, it’s still holding air just fine.
@narfcake Until it splits when you hit a bump or hole in the road.
@Kidsandliz It’s not going to be used. The aspect that it’s holding at all was the amazing part already. Germany was unified over 35 years ago – and this is definitely older as it’s bias ply. Granted, maybe not much much older since the GDR (East Germany) didn’t exactly have the latest technology or better resources at the time. Their Trabant was still built like this until 1990:
BTW, this is how they drive:
Blame. Last Friday evening, I started developing a toothache. It got steadily worse through the weekend, and I managed to get a consult with a dentist on Monday early in the afternoon. He referred me to a specialist who will see me early on Tuesday morning. (Avoiding the use of “today”, etc, so that this makes sense when read later.) It looks like decay in a previously untreated root of a molar that had a root canal about a decade back. It hurts a lot, and the antibiotics prescribed to try to knock back the infection are not having the hoped-for result.
Last week, I had actually allowed myself the luxury of thinking about baking my favorite cake for my birthday on Sunday. I should have known better.
2025 has sucked so damn much.
/showme a robot named mediocrebot removing a tooth from a goat
@werehatrack And the after-action report for the encounter with the specialist is…
Come back in two weeks and a day, to the specialist’s other office 20 miles farther away, and spend $1800, and he’ll fix it. Meanwhile, I have another script, for steroids to reduce the inflammation, and I get to have fun trying to deal with the pain via acetaminophen and ibuprofen.
I will just say that this is absolutely fucking typical for me for this time of year.

FYI the /Showme command has to be on it’s own line…
/BLAME
It’s a damn shame that we don’t get any ohshit reports anymore.
That is all.
@therealjrn Seriously. While I didn’t always understand all the technical mess behind what happened it was entertaining to read them.
Hey goat? I keep clicking on ads for Stanley brand products expecting tools and they are taking me to drinkware sales! Can you please get them to stop doing that?
UNBLAME!!!
I went to see It’s a Wonderful Life at Tampa Theatre tonight and someone had purchased an extra ticket for the cashier to hand out to a random person. I guess I am random!
@yakkoTDI Seems correct!
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI
/showme It’s a Wonderful Life free Christmas Eve miracle
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI
That’s WONDERFUL!
Blame! It’s Christmas Eve in Colorado, and I’m sweating in shorts & a tee shirt.

Shirt du jour. Thanks to @ACraigL!
@Kyeh @ACraigL is the BEST!
@Kyeh @therealjrn

A Christmas classic! Thanks for the mention
@ACraigL @therealjrn Perfect for this crazy weather! Here’s the Christmas day forecast. (I thought the little caption was funny.)
